You either use magic or it uses you… own interests. He knows Sam is the only one who can heal him, but he also knows better than anyone: magic always comes with a price. And he refuses to let Sam get hurt because of him. He’d rather die than cause her pain—and he plans to do just that. The more rabid werewolves he can take with him, the better.
With Alex’s days numbered and more and more feral werewolves being drawn to Sam, she must learn to wield what’s inside her and claim her inheritance. Before it’s too late.

A Witch’s Destiny is the second book in the Witches of Half Moon Bay series. I enjoyed following Sam on her journey, I found the story was interesting and loved how it was shrouded in magic.
Samantha Knight has remembered everything she has forgotten. Now that she remembers magic and knows about werewolves, Sam is on a journey to learn more about herself, more about her magic, and is determined to save the hunter, Alex Channing, even if he doesn’t want to be saved.
Things have changed for Sam since the first book. Then, Sam was terrified all the time, had high anxiety that kept her from living her life, and interacted with very few people. Now that she has removed the block that was in her brain she’s become a combination of the new Sam who was wary, has been through somethings, and is wiser for it and the girl she used to be who enjoys life, gets angry and has a little less fear than she did before. Not to mention her fear of men is gone and she has a strong connection with Alex.
Alex has his own issues (besides dying from werewolf venom), more of Alex’s past is surfacing and while it explains a lot it doesn’t give him an excuse to continue to keep relevant secrets from Sam. However, something that has become blatantly obvious is that Alex Channing cares for Sam. He is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her safe and be near her but Alex has his own demons he has to fight before he can truly let Sam in. While he has moments that he completely frustrates me, I like him and I like him with Sam.
This story is imbued with werewolves, mystery, old magic, and even older gods. I loved getting to learn about new gods, the background history of Sam’s people, and getting more answers about Sam’s past. As Sam is figuring out her magic and meeting new people and understand the people she knows a little bit better is fascinating because I get to read about all types of magic that are brand new to me. Harold has to be one of the most interesting characters because while I’ve seen a little bit of his magic I feel there is more that I don’t know.
A Witch’s Destiny was filled with magic and self-discovery. The story is pulling together slowly but surely. Sam is figuring her magic and is that much closer to who she is meant to be but there is still a lot left. A warning came but was incomplete, a mysterious character has become involved, Alex is still in trouble, and the werewolves are still sick. It looks like Sam’s journey had just begun.
Wow. This was a very intense book in so many ways !! I loved the intensity between Alex and Sam in the book, the question as to what really happens to Alex………. I could not put it down and now I need to find out more in book 3! A must read !!
