Busy Final Installment
As I so adored this author’s other series about the paranormal retirement community, it took me a bit longer to warm up to this series. But this final installment is fantastic. I love the cat. At times, it says things that you imagine a cat would say, particularly when it was fussing about its food! The first scene at the fractious meeting of the High Court pulled me right in. I love how this series has a variety of paranormal creatures, not just the standard wizards and witches seen in paranormal cozies. The sirens run the High Court, and there are shapeshifters, ghosts, and more… along with the witches. Cas is a relatively new witch, and she has a heap of trouble to deal with in this book—problems with her magic and her boyfriend being suspected of murder. This book kept me flipping the pages. An enjoyable paranormal cozy mystery read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is book 6 of the Crystal Springs Cozy Witch Mystery Series. I love this series and book 6 did not disappoint. The story grabs you and pulls you in and you will love the characters. I would recommend reading.

A Witch Too Soon must be the most exciting book in the series. The book is filled with much more details about some of the characters than I ever thought about. Cas has once again faced unknown foes without a care for her own safety. Her upcoming witch test will determine whether she could continue to practice magic. With this test looming over Cas, she didn’t let it destract her from saving her loved ones. Overall, this is a wonderful end to the series.

I’ve read several books written by Paula Lester; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

Cas is an interesting character who found out late in life that she’s a witch. She’s still getting the hang of her powers when she learns she might lose them. Then to top it all off, there’s a murder to solve, a boyfriend to save, and a great cat to enjoy!

Cascade is distressed to learn she would not get an extension before taking her test, which could lead to her death. Graham has history with the magistrate in charge of the decision, and is accused when Titan is found murdered. I enjoyed the twists in this mystery and especially the comments and antics of Echo.

This book had me in its grasp from the start! I felt like I was holding my breath waiting for the next thing to happen. Cas is an amazing character. With or without magic she always puts her friends first. I love snarky Echo too. He’s so funny! The fast car part was hilarious! You’ll know when you get to that part.

Cas’s exam is up and the judge who orders it might have his own agenda. With Graham being accused as a suspect, Cas is just managing everything.
The book was extremely well paced and intriguing. The ending though expected had a few surprises to keep one hooked.

Our heroine is still new at being a witch and not exactly getting glowing support from her peers, but now her beau is accused of murder. Is she really that bad a judge of character?
This is book six of the series and, per the author, the last book. Not necessarily the best place to start, but it actually works just fine as a standalone. I had no problem starting here.
This is a cozy mystery of the witchy variety. It is a popular genre these days, which is fine by me as I really enjoy the bit of magic they bring to the stories (no puns intended). The story is well written and easy to read, with a well developed cast and setting. As the last book in the series, there is a good bit of history to the series which I have missed, but that did not prevent me from thoroughly enjoying this story. It had all the essential elements of a good cozy including an intriguing mystery and a nice sense of humor. Overall, a very fun read and I look forward to exploring the earlier books when I get the chance.
Highly recommended.

A Witch Too Soon is the sixth book in the Crystal Springs Cozy Witch Mystery series and is an intriguing read.
This book is best read in order in the series because everything pulls together to the finale where Cas has to take her witch test. With another murder to solve, will she be able to pull it off?

This book was great.
I enjoyed this story. While this is book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. This is a fast read and there are enough twists and turns to make you guess as to who the killer is.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. Cas certainly has her hands full finding out who killed Titan, saving her boyfriend Graham & herself. There are lots of suspects including shapeshifters & witches. The cat is adorable. I really enjoyed this story.
The was A good series to read. I enjoyed reading about Cascade and her learning to be a witch with crazy magic. I would recommend this book.

…don’t be silly!!
Cas has used her quota of magic, now she has to take the test! She tries to appeal, her friends all help in the hope of gaining her more time. When she arrives at the (late thanks to echo) High Council Building, She first watches Sheriff Lloyd arguing with a new face in town, who is an investigator from another town, and Lloyd is not happy he is in his town but won’t reveal who he is investigating or what brought him to Crystal Springs. all he will say is it a murder investigation.
When Cas’s case is called the council has decided that though they ultimately have final say to be transparent a special magistrate has been appointed. As soon as Magistrate Aegis Titan, is announces Graham (Cas’s partner) loses it, demanding a new magistrate be appointed, anyone but Titan. Graham is escorted out of the room, and Cas is told her Witch Test will go ahead, but because she is a Supreme Witch a very rare and powerful Witch and that she did not develop her powers till much later in life because of a spell done when Cas was a baby a special team have been put together to review her, her friends, family and tutor and create a special test just for her.
With everyone around her giving her pitying looks obviously not believing she will pass her Witch Test, she isn’t feeling overly confident, but after a night with Graham where he tells her more of his past, feeling closer to him than ever before, just as things are looking up, as ever things in Cas’s life go to hell in the proverbial handbasket
Graham goes missing then Cas along with her friend Juniper find the body of the Magistrate Titan, and Graham is looking more and more like the prime suspect- things are messed up and as ever Cas is in the middle of it and determined to prove Grahams innocent
Looking over her shoulder waiting for the test at any minute, investigating Titans murder, so much is happening and it just keeps happening!
Can Cas pass the test, can she prove Graham innocent, and what exactly is Investigator Fox investigating? Read on and find out cause I am not giving spoilers!
This is FAST PACED so much happens in this book. Some of the plot points are contrived, for example: Graham goes missing the VERY morning after he and Cas have a real heart to heart and he wants to be more honest and open with her so OBVIOUSLY she is now more concerned about him than she would have been the weekend before, Juniper just happens to take Cas to her favourite spot in the woods to relax where they just HAPPEN to find a body. The body IS the magistrate and he WAS murdered just after Graham had not only had an explosive public reaction to him BUT he has explained his history with the Titan to Cas. I find this stuff frustrating, and in some parts even lazy but the authors need a reason for Cas to be in the woods to find the body (not just to find the body there is another reason it MUST be Cas but I’m trying hard not to give spoilers)
As a reader I do find contrived plot points annoying, where it can feel like it was written just so the story can move on, or so Cas can find the evidence she needs, I know that this would happen in any book, obviously the evidence needs to be found and explained but here it is written in such a very obvious way, it is certainly not slick writing in places it is downright clunky.
It does make the book fast paced, But you know who the baddies are from the off, maybe not the how’s but definitely most of the who’s are fairly obvious. As is, to an extent the why (same is in all the other books so far) One of the good nuggets is Sheriff Lloyds involvement in this episode IS surprising and very good, more of this kind of writing please, subtle but game changing! A little more of this subtlety would go a long way to improving some of the writing. Not to mention changing the MO, All crime in Crystal Springs does not have to be for the same nefarious reason It is getting a little tedious,
That being said, reading this review makes it sound like I hate this series, I honestly don’t I like Cas, she is quick thinking and had she got her magic at the “correct age” I do not think she would have coped near as well as she has I like that she does not necessarily agree with the crowd and sees the injustices around her..
Considering this is the final book in the series it leaves a lot of unanswered questions, it feels incomplete.
This is part of a series it is book 6 and you should read the books in order to fully understand the characters and plot points
The series just keeps getting better. Book is best enjoyed if other books in the series have been read. Cascade Lorne is forced to take her witch exam early while trying to figure out who framed her gear shifter boyfriend for murder. Great read!

Cascade Lorne (“Cas”) is a witch who came into her powers much later in life than usual and is now having to take her magic test before she is ready. If she fails, she will be stripped of her magic forever or could be killed. Her boyfriend, Graham, doesn’t like the judge that is brought in for the test.
Graham’s truck is found in the woods as Cas and Jupiter discover the judge has been murdered. Unfortunately, suspicion falls on Graham. To top it all off, Cas’ sister is trying to take over her lodge. With all of these calamities falling down on Cas at once, what should she try to fix first? When she gets the results of her test, she may be hampered much more! Can she find the killer before someone else ends up dead? Can she clear Graham so that he won’t be wrongfully locked away?
No more magic? Cascade all of a sudden has to take her witch test sooner than expected, a judge with an ax to grind is forcing it, and her boyfriend Graham doesn’t trust the Judge and says he’s dirty. In the days before her test is administered, she and her friend find the judge dead in the woods, Graham is acting weird and is the prime suspect, and the sister she doesn’t get along with is trying to take over ownership of Cascade’s lodge. Which problem does she tackle first or are they all related? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
The book starts with Cas running late and blaming it on the ever present black cat, Echo. The feeling of running late, being stressed to get to a place you to don’t want to even go to (being judged by your elders). We can all relate to the struggle Cas feels at every turn while juggling everything. Told in 3rd person we get a chance to swim in everyone’s head while Cas figures out the death of a magistrate, takes a test to prove and keep her witching abilities, and help Graham. Book moves fast and authors do a great job in sucking you into the pace.
