loved this book. I like witch cozy mysteries but this was something different. Most cozy books are centred around a teenage witch who has just come in to her powers but I like the authors twist on the subject. It made a nice and unusual change for the main character to be fifty. She still has problems controlling or understanding her powers but I liked that fact that the character was more mature and it made her problems more believable and not just teenage crushes. I liked the characters, especially Echo the cat. The mystery was good and I liked the way each clue lead to another one, I had guessed who the killer was but didn’t really know why until the end, it was just a feeling. I hope there are more books in the series.
Cascade Lorne after a messy marriage is looking for some excitement in her life with her new found freedom. She had no idea that by accepting the parcel just how much excitement she was about to unleash into her. She wakes up on the floor to find an old lady asking her about the new witch that has just come into her powers. At fifty Cassie is a bit old to be that witch but with everything tell her she is the old lady whisk her off to meet the sirens, the members of the high council might be able to explain what is going on. Rather than help they try to fob her of on her distant relatives and when that doesn’t work they tr binding her powers and send her home with a talking cat to keep her out of trouble. This doesn’t work and she becomes the number one suspect when the Grand siren is killed and she is found standing over the body. The sheriff is to busy with founders day to launch a proper investigation and one involving witches. So Cassie has to learn to control her powers and clear her name before the counsel sentence her to death. Can she solve the mystery behind her sudden power? A power that runs in families? With help from the talking cat and her new and mysterious neighbour, she might just get to see her birthday.
I liked the narrator and thought she sounded just right for the part of Cassie and her friends
Cascade Lorne has power she was unaware of. Still reeling from her divorce and nearly 50, she is trying to redefine herself. A strange delivery, a rock that makes her pass out and suddenly she is transported into a world of magic, ghosts and other paranormals. Now a witch, she finds out her mother was one and so is her half sister and senile aunt. The surprises never stop and worst of all she is the prime suspect in the death of a power witch. And this is only day three.
This is a delightful, cozy mystery with kooky characters and non stop surprises. The characters are inventive, personable and mostly likeable. The narrative is great helping to set the scenes and further enhance the depth of the characters. The storyline is filled with constant surprises as she learns about her new world and her uncontrollable power. The mystery is great and adds a huge element to the development of the main character. The mystery is great with all the twists and turns, keeping you guessing how did it. It’s a fun creative, well crafters and unique Witchy cozy mystery. I can’t wait until I read the next book.
Cascade North lost her mother when she was five years old, her younger sister only three. her HALF sister.
When her half sister turned eleven, and Cas was fifteen, baby sister was sent to live with an aunt, and Cas to a boarding school. It always caused her pain, like she was some sort of modern Cinderella or something.
Now almost 50, Cas is celebrating a bit sadly the liberation from her marriage. Her husband had a gambling addiction.
She is enjoying painting her entry a bold color of her own choice when she receives and odd delivery from a Sprite, and her world changes.
The next person she sees arrives telling her she is there to welcome the newly blossomed witch – her frightened hiccups result in a yellow bird and a flying pig – and a trip to a nearby Village Courthouse.
Very different changes and challenges await Cas, as she is blamed for a variety of tragedies and thefts, and a nearby handsome neighbor and a cat become her companions.
She has a rough road ahead, but with the help of Echo the cat and Graham, a likely shifter, she might just survive and be able to do a bit of good along the way.
Fun and fantastic – with a touch of romance, a lot of adventure, and gratitude from me that the gal with the fresh start is not 20 but nearing 50 – with accompanying baggage, experience, and humor.
Awesome Kindle Unlimited read!
