Things are looking up in Crystal Springs. Cascade Lorne’s bed and breakfast lodge is up and running, and the town was chosen to host the Winter Solstice Games. Everyone’s ready to welcome the influx of tourists and collect the money they’ll bring with them. Cas is extra excited because the Games are happening on her lodge’s property. This is book 5 of the Crystal Springs Cozy Witch Mystery series. I love this series!! I love Cas and the storyline grabbed my interest from the start. The story is well written and the characters throughout are well written. I definitely recommend this series.

Witch Cascade (“Cas”) Lorne’s bed and breakfast lodge is finally up and running and she will be hosting the officials for the Winter Solstice Games. The town is excited at the extra money the tourists will bring in. Unfortunately, the athletes are getting murdered! One of the organizers requested that Cas help investigate. Her best lead seems to be a family that was destroyed with the exception of a young boy who escaped. But what does he look like now? How can she find him? If she doesn’t, the entire town of Crystal Springs could be destroyed.
This was a good mystery that captures the reader’s attention right from the start. Aside from running her lodge, no time to practice her magic, long-distance woes with her boyfriend, and running around with a million tasks to take care of, having athletes murdered on her property is not another job she wants to handle – yet she must. She and Echo need to be hot on the trail to prevent the murderer from continuing his icy revenge before the trail goes “cold”.
I got stumped! Nice job.
Now admit that part of the fun in reading a mystery is trying to figure it out yourself!!! I love when I get faked out.
Watch out for the rabbit trails. I had it but thought no. Spent time on the name Brie as a male name and other things. I had who but got sidetracked from the actual who. Nice job keeping the brain cells active.
Keeps you reading to put the clues together. You can read this as a standalone easily. Honestly, I have read the previous books and barely remember them in this one (no offense, just read too much). Eventually,I will need to reread them back to back.
I am hoping that the next book helps with unfinished business from this one. Cannot wait.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Cas’ town could be destroyed forever if she can’t find the culprit. The Winter Solstice Games are in Cas’ town and on her property. Everyone is excited because it will bring money and notoriety to their small town. But before the games can begin athletes are murdered. One of the organizers has asked for her help, and she finds out that a pixie artifact, The Crystal Star, has been stolen, and if used no one has the knowledge to undo the spell. A witch will be trapped in ice, and two athletes have been murdered in exactly that way. Cas has many suspects but it keeps coming back to an old family that years ago was wiped out except for one small chubby boy who was a supreme and was able to escape even though his magic was supposedly leashed. Now she has to find out what he looks like now after so many years and stop him because not only athletes are in danger, but his revenge could decimate the entire town. The Winter Games come to Crystal Springs and with it comes a lot of bad feeling and grudges, and yet again Cas finds herself in the middle of it.
I love my visits to Crystal Springs, they are always exciting, the storylines ar always well thought out, and there are red herrings galore! The characters are interesting and leave you wanting more, I would like to see Cas using her magic more, at the moment we don’t even really see her training as she is to busy running around dealing with issues that happened before she ever had her power, granted she is now inadvertently involved but still how did the council ever manage without her?
If you are new to this series I would recommend you start at book 1 as the storyline does weave it’s way through all the books. But I do recommendThis is a good series with interesting characters .

This book just gets you from the start, enough the banter of the characters. You see Cas on her journey trying to juggle her business, her business, all her relationships. I am looking forward to the next book.

Newbie witch Cascade Lorne finds herself involved in solving another magical mystery when the Winter Solstice Games are being held in Crystal Springs. When the participating athletes start dying, Cas and her familiar echo piece together who is behind the murders. This book is best enjoyed if others in the series have been read. I love books like these where you never know what’s going to happen. Cas is getting a bad rep and she’s really getting tired of it. So if you want a Who Done It type of books with the paranormal going on this is for you.
