A Witch Called Red by Sami Valentine is such an amazing story that I have loved reading very much. This is book number one in this start to an amazing brand new series that I can not wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about vampires, witches and fantasy.
I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Out heroine has been claimed by a vampire, but can’t remember anything about her past. Now she is on a case in LA where everyone seems to know something about her past, but no one is talking.
This is book one of a rough and tumble urban fantasy series. There is a prequel story which gives a good grounding in the setting and the background of our main characters, but it not necessary to read it before jumping into this one.
This story was well written and packs a complex plot with lots of unexpected twists and turns. The characters are well developed and definitely have their own unique personalities, with both strengths and flaws. The setting is also complex and I feel like we have just scratched the surface of all it has to offer.
The story was action packed from start to finish and kept my attention. Overall, an excellent weekend read and I am looking forward to the next volume.
Highly recommended.

Fantastic book! Loved it from cover to cover. Well written and very entertaining. I highly recommend this book to someone that is looking for a easy to read, entertaining story. Enjoy!
In a world where demons have souls, witches have amnesia, and humans are clueless about either, Red needs to keep her wits sharp and her stake sharper.
With blurb like that how could you not want to read this? I did read the novelette first which made this first book In The series make more sense. There’s magic, action, adventure, witches, vampires and so much more and I will definitely be reading the next book!
This book is AMAZING from the moment she wakes up in a hospital, she knows nothing about herself! She does not know her name, her history nothing, she DOES know about Witches and Vampires and things that go bump in the night, she even knows that some Vampires are good and even have souls, but she DOESN’T know her name, her history or where she came from, she certainly does not know how she came to be covered in fang bites and bruises and left for dead at the side of the road. Vic finds her, stays with her and names her Red (not the most imaginative name her hair is red) in return after her recovery she stays with Vic. Vic works for the Bard’s, he spends his life fighting the bad Vampires, and Red sticks with him as his intern hoping that eventually something will jog her memory.
Arriving in LA to work for Vic’s Vampire buddy Quinn, right from the off it’s like Vampire’s from all factions know her and want her, yet she doesn’t know them, things are happening in LA and it isn’t the Blood Alliance, and Vic’s buddy seems to be right in the middle of it, given their history is it a surprise?
This is an incredible book, I honestly read it in one go, I had to it was absolutely incredible, it has everything, mystery, romance, glamour, fear, it really covered the gamut of emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed it, characters are so good, the writing is so good, I just can’t get over how good it was, I went back and read it again, , honestly if you like your Urban Fantasy with a kick ass heroine who knows nothing about herself, and a paranoid, sidekick who can hack any computer he has access to and you have this amazing book.
The book ends on a high, but with more questions, than it answered…. Roll on book 2!

She faces the ultimate existential question: if you woke up today not knowing your name or your personal or family history, who are you? Are you only the sum of those things you cannot remember, and might not want to remember?
Or are you who you choose to be, each and every day, and how you decide to use whatever resources you have at your disposal?
She is a witch called Red. She kicks some butt – sometimes, when things work right. Finding the pieces to make it each day, and learning the hard way whom to trust along the way leaves different kinds of scars.
But hey, there is always something wrong or going on in LA, so there’s work to be done. Time to get on with it
I received an advance copy from Storyorigin . My review is voluntary- and I’m loving this series so far. Can’t wait for the next one!
An interesting book with a good storyline and characters, plenty of action, mystery, danger, and suspense. A witch with amnesia, dubbed Red by her mentor Vic, is on the hunt for a killer. As she looks for clues to the recent deaths she stumbles across clues to her own missing past. This thrilling suspense will have you on the edge of your seats. Definitely worth giving a read. I requested a free review copy of this book through StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved the action and adventure as well as the backstory and filling in of history of some of the characters. I love the twists and turns that I never saw coming.

I loved this tale!
“A Witch called Red” is a gritty, action-pack paranormal tale that is well-written, exciting and original. The characters are strong and well-developed. This suspenseful tale is well worth it and perfect for a weekend read. I look forward to the next book by this author.

4.5/5 and totally worth rounding up. The story, characters, and dialogue were fantastic. Fans of Buffy, Sookie Stackhouse, and Rachel Morgan will thoroughly enjoy this new addition to the urban fantasy genre.
Like the characters development. You begin to see what makes them tick. Really want Vic to be better. Want some more answers about Red. This series keeps you guessing. I received an ARC.

A woman wakes up in the hospital with amnesia and vampire bites on her neck. She was found by a hunter and ends up joining him in hunting while attempting to find her identity. The hunter, Vic, calls her Red due to her hair color. They end up in LA to help solve a murder that Vic’s friend Quinn has ties/interests in. Apparently Red is a doppelgänger of a witch the vampires knew in the past and they attempt to solve the murder and she tries to remember her past.
Overall, it was fast paced and entertaining. A few times I felt as if there was something missing or something just didn’t add up. Here are some examples….Red had been having dreams of a past lover and when he appears, she doesn’t seem to make too much of the connection even after they tell her she’s a dead ringer of the previous lover of the vampire (she even sees photos and drawings of “herself”) He even calls her by the name he called her in the dreams and nothing is said of it. Secondly, Vic and Red make a big deal of cleaning up hotel rooms when they leave when in hunts, but Red thinks nothing of giving her blood at the bank for identity purposes. Third, another contradiction, a vampire states “I slept with her”, then a paragraph later says “a gentleman never tells”. Lastly, and this is just a pet peeve of mine since I am a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and I work and have worked in many blood banks, orderlys do not have access to blood products and would not be able to sell them. The laboratories are locked down and all blood products are accounted for. I know, I know, fiction but I still think there are other ways to get them. I did enjoy all the reference to pop culture. This book seems to be the first in the series and it is the authors first published novel. The series shows promise and I’m sure/hoping they will flow better and have more consistency in the future.
If you love Buffy and adore broken characters, magic and vampires, you will get sucked in and wrung dry by this page turner! I absolutely couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for more!
I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review, for a story that’s like a movie in the making. Kudos, Author!!
Received ARC. A great storyline that moves along at a steady pace. Like the characters and you feel their emotions. A great read.
This ARC was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
This book caught my attention right from the first page. The narrative is fluid and enticing. Sami Valentine’s writing style is great. Sometimes it’s hard for me to express how good a book is and I end up not saying anything but, in mind, there are so many expressions and raves for a book.
It always comes to my mind those old cartoons I used to watch on TV. Where to entice your prey one character has a potion or something very aromatic and you can see the fumes slowly approaching the target and a hand forms at the end of those fumes mesmerizing the target and Bam! You’re caught. That’s my visual image of a great book. It catches you when you start reading and it makes it difficult to put down for mundane life. And you do put down, because of life, you can barely wait to go to your reading. That’s what A Witch Called Red was to me.
I went on a trip to this world created by Sami Valentine and it was really hard to get off the bus. And this book took me to so many twists and turns that I had to stop for 5 minutes sometimes and breathe because of my anxiety. I didn’t want the book to finish but I did want to know what happened. So I got to the end. And it was great.
There was some development in the characters and I feel that they will change and grow and that’s all I expect from my characters. Growth and development. Vic was my favorite. I love Red, too. Don’t get me wrong but Vic is special. His mullet and his redneck ways are adorable. I liked Novak better than Lucas. Red and Vic were flawed and they felt real.
The plot was very interesting. I found out the culprit before the main character but I wasn’t so sure about it. The most surprising thing was the motivation behind the plot to take over the city. The villain wasn’t bad just because he was the villain. His plans had a strong motivation that for a minute makes us sympathize with him a little bit or, at least understand his motivations, even though this didn’t excuse what was done to achieve such goals.
The conclusion left us with certainty that more was to come to our “heroes” and I’m excited to read the next book in the series.
This was a fantastic vacation read. I read the majority of A Witch Called Red on the plane ride and was irritated when the plane landed early and I had to pack up.
Red and Vic were my favorite characters. The author did a great job with teasing just enough of a Juniper St. James and Red’s past to keep me excited for book 2.
The bait and switch of bad guys and motivations was great and I almost didn’t see it coming until the “big reveal”.
Red was realistically kick ass as a witch who is just learning her powers. She is not crazy over powered, which is annoying in other stories.
I received a free copy of this book and an voluntarily leaving a review. I will however purchase a copy upon release because I believe in supporting authors I enjoy!
Red and Vic are on their way to LA, due to a phone call Vic got from an old friend. There is a murder that happened there Vic’s old friend needs there help. One the way there, they run into a bit of trouble. Quinn sends someone to come and help. When this man sees Red, he tells them to leave, he drives off.
They manage to get to Quinn’s office, only to find vampires had broken in and were trying to find something. They find Quinn and he was knocked out. Quinn has a reaction seeing Red, but doesn’t say anything. They all go over the murder and the help Quinn needs.
Red and Vic end up in a club, looking into a new murder. A vampire comes over to talk to her, when Vic is on the upper level. He manages to mark her and claim her. She is thrown through a loop
Comes to find out she had a face, that a lot of them was in the past. Red doesn’t know who she is or who this person is to her. But curiosity is getting to her. She grows closer to Lucas as they work together, he remembers her of the man from her dreams.
Red doesn’t know who is committing the murders, she knows it is a vampire. It could be their lives to try to find out.
There is so much action in this book, some romance, a lot of back story to all these characters. Didn’t see the person that was behind it all.
I am already wanting book 2. I can’t wait for more in this series, this was a great read. You have something in there for everyone.

This book was fantastic! I loved the adventures of Red and Vic. All the characters were depicted so beautifully.
This is a book that had me turning pages through the night. So much happens. I love the fact that the story is not predictable. I will be continuing this series. I love it!!! Happy Reading!!!
