It may be snowing outside, but inside a log cabin in the secluded mountains, things are definitely heating up…Moving to LA was supposed to be the key to Kitty Shakespeare’s career success, but instead she finds herself working as a nanny in the middle of nowheresville. On the plus side there’s snow, and she’s always loved children. But she hadn’t counted on getting drawn into her boss’s messed … into her boss’s messed up family, nor on being attracted to his sexy – and reclusive – brother, Adam.
Adam Klein may be gorgeous, but he’s also gruff, rude and completely impossible. Maybe that’s why he’s hiding out in a cabin in the woods. If he’d only stay there, maybe Kitty could get through Christmas in one piece.
A heartwarming Shakespeare Sisters romance from the bestselling author of Summer’s Lease and Fix You.

This was the first book I’d read by this author but I loved it so much I got the next book in the series as soon as it came out. The character’s are well defined and you get totally wrapped up in the story. I didn’t want to put it down once I’d started it and I’d finished it in a day.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
Although ‘A winter’s tale’ is the second book in ‘The Shakespeare sisters’ series you don’t have to read the first book of the series to read this one.
There is nothing that I love more than reading ‘Christmas’ stories during the cold winter days. Every year I’m hoping that some writer will surprise me with a great Christmas story and this year Carrie Elks did just that.
Life doesn’t always goes as planned. Nobody knows that better than the Shakespeare sisters. They lost their mother at a young age, luckily they had each other and their father to lean on. Now, Kitty, the youngest of the four sisters left London to follow her dreams in L.A.. From a young age Kitty was fascinated by the movies she saw, but unlike other children she didn’t dream of becoming an actress. No, Kitty wants to work behind the cameras. She had hoped that she could get an internship by the famous producer Everett Klein but the only thing that she got from that interview was an offer to be a nanny to his only son during the Christmas holiday. Desperate, Kitty accepts the offer, hoping that maybe she can convince him to give her a chance with the internship too.
But nothing goes as planned. The house where she’s staying at is in the middle of nowhere and the people she sees most are Jonas the boy she is hired for, Annie the housekeeper and Adam the grumpy uncle of the child. During their first encounters Adam doesn’t make a great impression on Kitty. He is rude and unfriendly. But later on Kitty discovers another side of Adam. A side that she really likes. The more time they spend together the closer they became. But then Kitty discovers a secret. A secret kept from Adam. So now Kitty has to choose will she tell Adam and lose her chance at an internship or will she keep it from Adam and just hope he never finds out. Whatever she choose, Kitty will lose something.
I really enjoyed this book. This story had all the ingredients that I like in my Christmas stories. It had snow, Christmas festivities, romance, drama and even humour. It had the perfect mix of everything.
The story was told in both POV’s. Kitty is a young woman with a good, big heart. She is kind. Adam is like every alpha man, he is grumpy, antisocial but if he wants he can also be kind and charming, The fact that there is also a child in the story gives it something extra to me. And Jonas is a very sweet and curious child.
Carrie Elks wrote a lovely, Christmas story and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
The second instalment in the Shakespeare sisters’ series, as we meet Kitty the youngest sister, and every bit as good as the first… exactly what I was hoping for from Carrie – relatable characters, intrigue, and descriptions that took me right to the little cabin in the woods, where I’d love to be holed up with Adam Klein myself!!
Who doesn’t like a “bearded a**hole” .. troubled, with a mystery in his past, a gruff manner, but oh so sexy as hell! ?
It wasn’t in Kitty’s plans to spend her Christmas break away from home, nannying for a family she didn’t know, it certainly wasn’t her intention to get dragged into the Klein family drama, or find herself smitten with said “bearded a**hole” but that’s what happened and whilst she loved looking after her charge, Jonas, her Christmas was about to get a whole lot more complicated.
Totally loved that it wasn’t all plain sailing, a HEA doesn’t ever come without a bit of angst, but I was rooting for Kitty as she was such a lovable character. Loved meeting the other sisters again and cant wait for Lucy and Juliet’s stories!
This is the first book of Carrie Elks that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. It was a wonderful combination of heartwarming, sad and funny. I found myself laughing out loud at some points in the story and crying at others. A Winter’s Tale pulled me in and had me falling in love with it’s characters. I couldn’t wait to find out more about their stories.
Kitty is down to earth, kind hearted and determined. She’s a film student try to land an internship in the industry. Kitty has had no luck so far but even after receiving rejection letter after rejection later she refuses to accept help. She is determined to prove herself and get an internship on her own.
Chance presents Kitty with and unexpected opportunity. It may not be one she was hoping for but it might just be one that’ll get her that much closer to achieving her goal. An unexpected incident had Kitty meeting the tall, handsome and growly Alex. Even though she knows it would be best to stay away from him something draws her to him and has her wondering if there’s more to him than his rough exterior.
Alex has had a rough year. An incident happens that lands Alex back in West Virginia staying in a cabin on his parents property. All he wants to do is be alone but life has other ideas. It has him crossing paths with the beautiful Kitty Shakespeare. There’s something about Kitty that has her invading Alex’s thoughts and dreams. Determined to not let anything come of it he’s rude to Kitty and pushes her away.
Will Kitty be the one to look past his rough exterior and see him for who he truly is? Will she be the one to help him overcome his pain and anger allowing him to find peace within himself?
The road to love may not be easy but it’s definitely one worth traveling.
Kitty really wants a chance to break into the film industry but takes a job as a nanny hoping it may put her in a position to get it. Little does she know that’s not the only thing that will come out of it. But before it does she has to be seen for who she really is, break down some of her own barriers, get to know a little charmer and figure out what she wants. That’s if she can get tall, dark and angry Adam to go along with it. Great read with good characters with a story that holds some secrets, some anger issues, some romance and passion.
This is my first read by this author and I like it and her style. Each story is a standalone with carryover characters as we get to know the Shakespeare sisters.
I thoroughly enjoyed the second instalment of the Shakespeare sisters books. Winter’s Tale can be read alone or in order, after, Summer’s Lease. In this story we meet Kitty the youngest of the Shakespeare sisters.
Kitty has left England and now lives and studies in LA. Her chosen career is in the same industry as her sister Cesca’s but she prefers to direct the action rather than being the author. While looking for an internship she meets with the assistant of the famous Everett Klein and interviews for a position at the production company. While talking about past work history she reveals she used to be a Nanny. Even though she interviews quite badly, the Assistant remembers that tidbit of information and passes it on to Everett Klein’s wife who is looking for an interim Nanny. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Kitty takes the position offered while hoping to impress Everett and secure an internship. Here sets the stage for our story.
Now most people like myself would be confused about now. I’m a huge fan romance stories but when I started reading there was a fair amount of trepidation as I could not work how all the pieces would fit together. Who would fall in love with whom? All the players are not introduced straight away and it isn’t until we meet Adam Klein that the pieces starting moving in the right direction. This is all part of the mystery, part of the love story and part of growing up and finding your place in this world that makes this story romantic and relatable. And I think that’s why I enjoyed it so much. I am not going to give you any more spoilers as I want you to experience the ahhhhh! moment as I did.
Carrie Elks is a wonderful story teller and I would recommend this book to all readers who enjoy a well thought out plot, great characters and a satisfying ending.
