When Mirah’s clan was destroyed, she was “rescued” and brought to a world of magic and wonder, but as with all good things, she would learn that her new world was also filled with many dangers. Hers is a fantastic journey filled with twists and revelations and might and magic.
This book was a wonderful surprise to me. Like many other readers have said, once I started, it was hard to put down. I had to find out what was happening with Mirah, Nate, Gabe, and Galia, to name a few of the fantastic characters in this book. There is an elemental magic system unlike anything I’ve ever read, but not everyone is chosen to be a magic wielder. Some are healers, others the mysterious Chasmalim. There are gods, demi-gods (giants), and both ordinary and not-so-ordinary mortals. And their stories intertwined and unfolded beautifully.
I wish I could live there for short while and witness everything that she experienced. But I don’t want to spoil the fun. You’ll have to read it for yourself.
A Voice That Thunders is Book 1 in a heart-pounding new series by Cully Mack. It’s been on my TBR for a long time. Now I ask myself what took me so long? This book is amazing! If you like to binge-read, then you’ll be happy to hear that the 4th book is already available.
There’s magic, mythical creatures, humans, gods, and semi-gods. It has vivid worldbuilding with characters you’ll love and hate. The pace moves quickly with dynamic POV changes.
The ending is surprisingly satisfying for a series. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but you’ll be super keen to grab A Scream That Shatters to find out what happens next! I certainly am. I immediately placed Book 2 on my want-to-read list.
This book is fun to read with a variety of awesome characters fighting on the side of good. I want to read more about them. In fact, I want to spend time with them! This is a romantic fantasy that you won’t want to miss!
Imprisoned. A captive. What does it look like? Mirah knows. After watching most of her clan butchered before her eyes, she’s taken and forced to accept the enemy’s world as home. Images of the slaughter replay to keep the waking nightmare ever present in her heart. To survive, she makes the impossible choice to enter a new prison, one where she must train to become one of the enemy’s warriors to wield an elemental magic in her. It’s the only way to stay alive though. Mirah soon finds some people’s prisons are not easily seen. Like with Nate, one of her capturers. In this new world, she realizes not all of her enemies are as she perceived them. Some are bound by unseen shackles, as trapped as those they have captured and unable to escape the cruel grasp of this world’s masters. They are imprisoned by their own guilt for the part they are forced to played in the bloodbaths. It’s no longer just about her and those surviving few from her clan breaking free. It’s about seeing beyond her world, to do whatever it takes to shatter the chains that bind each of them from the true enemy stalking them. She can do it too, because she’s not the same girl that was taken captive. Experience has changed her, and she’s stronger in ways she didn’t realize. Perhaps most importantly, she is inspiring others in ways she never thought possible. Like Nate. He has the courage to finally do what he said couldn’t be done, to break through the prison he’s been trapped in for so long. Because now he’s found the reason he needed. The someone he needed. Nobody said the chains would be easy to break, or they could be defeated overnight. But isn’t freedom from this prison worth the struggle? Mirah and Nate would say yes, especially when you’ve seen the promise of what could be beyond the prison doors.
What a wonderful book and a great start to the series. Cully creates a magical world full of amazing characters and creatures, and as the story progressed, I found I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to know what happened next. And I just love the cover!
The story begins with a violent attack on a peaceful village, where the attackers are violent blood- thirsty giants, the sons of a god and they leave none alive. Except for six girls who are taken as ‘tithes’ and begin a long journey back to be tested by Shemyaza, the god of his world.
Cully creates wonderful characters that you can relate to. You are rooting for the girls and sympathise with their situation. Great read. Add it to your list. Look forward to reading Book two: A Voice that Screams.
