From a USA Today Best Selling AuthorThe story is not your typical murder mystery. The sleuth is not a detective, private eye, or lawyer. He’s an ordinary guy with an extraordinary dog.Jacob Martin is trying to make the best of a divorce and mid-life crisis when he gets a call at two o’clock Sunday morning from his mother. His sister has been arrested for the murder of her fourth husband, and his … her fourth husband, and his father is near death. Thus begins an adventure that takes Jake and his golden retriever from their Colorado retreat to a backwater town in the Missouri Ozarks where they search for cold-blooded killers, a cache of gold coins buried by Jesse James, and the love of a beautiful nurse.

Not enough action for me, but still a good read.
Loved it!!!
I always love it when a great dog is added to the story! This book has the element of a faithful dog, and an owner who hangs in there to help his family. He has his own foibles and his family is also chock-full of them too!
Unlikeable human characters and disjointed story line.
Keeps you guessing!
Sucker for a Golden Retriever story and Fred is a great golden!
All of the above though he and the dog Fred drank a lot of beer
It was so interesting and quite exciting
i didnt finish it
Good story!
I am usually not a romance type story reader, but this book was very good! Loved the characters and how they pulled you into their story. Nice warm-feeling read, got you to rooting for the characters and that things would work out for them.
Very enjoyable read.
GOOD READ …& a dog winning combo
The story was okay. The dog is mentioned mostly as being there. Cursing, continual mention of perverted thoughts and references to pornography took away from the book for me. If those things don’t bother you,, you may find it entertaining.
The constant mention of McDonald’s and picking up food for the main character and the dog (Fred) lead you …
You have to love a book with a crime fighting dog!
It was to get into.
Love books with dogs in them!
Very funny. Great characters and setting.
Very realistic family interactions, twisting plot(s) … surprises …. just a good read.
I was bored in much of this book. The characters were ok but seemed to spend most of their time drinking beer or wine.
