From a USA Today Best Selling AuthorThe story is not your typical murder mystery. The sleuth is not a detective, private eye, or lawyer. He’s an ordinary guy with an extraordinary dog.Jacob Martin is trying to make the best of a divorce and mid-life crisis when he gets a call at two o’clock Sunday morning from his mother. His sister has been arrested for the murder of her fourth husband, and his … her fourth husband, and his father is near death. Thus begins an adventure that takes Jake and his golden retriever from their Colorado retreat to a backwater town in the Missouri Ozarks where they search for cold-blooded killers, a cache of gold coins buried by Jesse James, and the love of a beautiful nurse.

Great story
I want to live in this wonderful place. Maybe with a special person like the one portrayed by the author!!
Great book. I like books that has animals in it
I like Jake and his dog, Fred, a lot. All the characters in these stories are easy to believe and it is just comfortable to read these books and feel like I am visiting with old friends.
A great read. I’ve enjoyed this series
It was an enjoyable read, like watching a good movie.
Good read, good characters, interesting ending
Too much focus on drinking!
Easy read! But, not into it enough to purchase book 2.
This is a good read if you like cozy mysteries with relatable characters. Not a page turner or particularly literary, but enjoyable
Scenes of terrible driving and money troubles don’t encourage me to read a book. I wanted to like this book, but it made me uncomfortable for the above-mentioned reasons, and the mystery itself was so forgettable that i can’t remember who-dunnit. Nice setting, some good characters, but i probably won’t read the next in the series.
I found the storyline and characters hard to follow. It did not hold my interest
Not an smooth read, boring
If you do not like the characters in the book why read it? I forced myself to finish. First book better, this one not worth reading. Sorry
I really like this series. This is the first book. A guy struggling to restart his life travels to Missouri to try to help out his sister from murder charges. An easy read where one of the main characters is Fred the golden retriever. I like Jake’s sarcasm and his interaction with diverse characters.
Great read!!
Although the write-up makes it sound like the dog is some kind of super sleuth, really it’s a great story with a well-described companion dog. Great plot and well told.
Kept you guess ing.
Inspirational and very uplifting…Thank you
Quit after a couple of chapters. Nada
