Welcome to Thornwaite, a quaint village tucked up in England’s beautiful but rainy Lake District… where homecomings happen and surprises are in store for the four Holley sisters… the cozy chaos of the busy vicarage.
After several years away from home, Anna returns for Christmas… and an important announcement from her father. As much as she once loved the village, coming back is hard and puts Anna’s social capabilities to the test.
Avoiding her sisters’ bossy questions, she heads out to the local pub one night, and meets a handsome stranger nursing a pint. Somehow, unburdened by expectations, Simon seems like the perfect person to spill all her secrets to—including a hopeless, long-held crush on her sister’s boyfriend. Confident she’ll never see him again, Anna returns home… only to discover the next day that Simon is actually her father’s new curate!
Anna is beyond mortified, but Simon won’t let her retreat into her usual shyness—and for once Anna is forced to confront the past, and all the fears and feelings she’d tried so long to hide. But with his own heartache that needs to heal, can Simon help Anna to make this the most magical Christmas either of them have known?

‘Kate Hewitt has a way of drawing the reader in and captivating them with these stories. I really hope this isn’t the last we see of the residents of Willoughby Close as this series has been by far one of my favourites and I would be sad to see the series come to a close.’

“4 out of 5 stars! Ever since a tragic accident took place when Anna was young, she has struggled with crippling anxiety and stuttering issues. So much so that she has tried her best, in various ways, to hide it from everyone, even though she hasn’t always been successful. She has stayed away from her close-knit hometown for the past three years because of her issues. However, at her parent’s request, she returns home for the Christmas holidays, and into a world of drama that begins the day she arrives home. That happens to also be the day that she meets Simon, a man who has just moved to her hometown, who she spills a majority of her secrets too. Yet, Simon doesn’t stay a stranger for long, which leads Anna into a future she had never dreamed for herself … but is it the better path for her or will it come at another cost?
This novel was not what I was expecting. In truth, it was a whole lot more and a bag of chips! …”

A very pleasant read. I enjoyed it……and how well it related to family life.
This book is ok. But I didn’t have enough. When I laid it down for the first time, the urge to finish was not there.
Nice to read something without the usual “sexual” interludes, but still has the romance.
Enjoyed the read – Had a hard time understanding the main character, Anna, but found myself cheering for her to leave her shell and seek happiness. The ending is a cliff-hanger; one needs to read the other books in the series.
Surprised reading, not what I expected. Kept me interested.
Light holiday reading
Different
Too predictable.
Loved a view into the lives of the vicar and the new curate in a small English village.
I enjoyed it. It was surprising with the few twists that were in it. Not going to say more because don’t want to spoil it for someone else. The book had tragedy, love, hope and a happy ending.
A Vicarage Christmas was a good story, one which could be read any time of year. The holidays brought Anna home accompanied with her personal baggage. She has a warm and loving family but there are secrets. She meets a man in a bar and spills her innermost thoughts, thinking she’ll never see him again. To her horror, he arrives at the vicarage as the newly appointed assistant or so she thinks. All the characters are well fleshed out and the reader will feel as if they, too, live in the small town of Thornthwaite. A highly recommended read.
Maybe I’m just tired of these xmas HEA books. Dunno. Just sticky-sweet.
This one, however, irritated me because the MC was so bloody self-absorbed. She moans and whinges about her dead brother, and seems to actually believe she’s the only one in her family who was upset at his death. This went on all thru the book, until, oh golly, she was shocked to find out it had upset her parents and sisters, too. Huh?
The romance is predictable, but then, that’s sort of a requirement for these books. So no, it didn’t stand out in any positive way.
Lovely book filled with hope, family, and love. That’s what Christmas is all about.
A cozy Christmas story Jane Austen characters set in the English countryside. What more could you want?
