A Vampire’s Heart is the first book in the Ellowyn Found trilogy by Kayleigh Sky. This is an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal story full of mystery and suspense and vampires. While the love story has a satisfying conclusion in this book and in that sense stands alone, there is an overarching mystery that covers the trilogy as a whole.
Otto and Jessa offer us an enemies to lovers treat…. an opposites attraction story between a vampire prince who is a romantic and a cop who reluctantly working with a vamp. The story is well told, interesting and entertaining. I can not wait to read the rest of the trilogy in this universe and unravel the whole mystery.
I loved when an author creates a whole new world with wonderful well written fantastic characters. This story about how Otto and Jessa found each other is a complex and page-turner, full of twists and turns narration that opened the doors to a world where I’d expect more following stories. As a couple, the chemistry between them is tangible, endearing and authentic, making for a amazing love story in between intriguer, betrayal and a murder investigation. I cannot wait for book 2!!
Otto is a human police officer in a world where vampires rule. He has issues with a type of vampires known as “drainers” since they cannot survive on the blood substitute. Jessa is the youngest of one of the Royal lines; to be exact, his father was the former King. Also, he’s a drainer and half human.
As Otto investigates the death of a drainer, secrets come out and what they both thought of the world and people in it To add to it, Otto and Jessa must figure out their relationship and the emotions that brings out.

Interesting, and intriguing! I was impressed!
I really enjoyed this story and the somewhat different take on vampires and fated mates. So much happens in this book and with so many characters I admit I had to “read along” with the narration so really follow what was going on and who what interacting with who.
With so many twists and turns I was on the edge of my seat as to what would happen next and who would be in danger next. I enjoyed the vampire elements and the idea of half-lings. I loved the mystery and detective elements and really enjoyed Otto’s character growth and healing. A good take on Vampire Royalty too, and I loved that Otto was of course fated to a vampire.
I loved Jessa, he’s so sweet and such a great character! I loved his passion and desire to help and even his overly romantic nature was endearing!
I really liked this adventure and look forward to the next one and hopefully more of Otto and Jessa and the world of intrigue and betrayal that lies ahead!!
Exceptional narration from Darcy! I love the different character dialects and passionate overall narration!

I loved this book. I didn’t know what to expect because this is my first time reading anything by this author. The book is superb. The world-building is outstanding, so detailed that it paints a clear picture of this new world inhabited by vampires and humans. It’s dark, hungry and unforgiving. It’s steeped in prejudice and desperation but still there is a glimmer or hope. This is enemies to lovers story with plenty UST and wonderful relationship development.
Otto is such a character. He is a human detective who is fighting a losing battle with himself and the world order. He is a grieving brother, he is a protector, he is a hopeless man at the bottom of the bottle with nothing to lose but his sense of self. When he investigates recent murder of a vampire he meets Jessa, youngest vampire prince, and fights tooth and nail against attraction, possessiveness and desire to love and be loved.
Jessamine is half-vampire and half-human, he is romantic at heart but feels that he has to atone for his imperfections by marrying a vampire he does not love. He is a ray of sunshine in the dreary cold day to Otto’s darkness and sarcasm. The events make it possible for him to be for once someone else and help Otto bring justice. And what starts as unwelcome task for Otto turns into passionate desire to love and protect his innocent prince from harm, to cherish and have hope for the future.
The mystery is encompassing many families, different species and spanning years. So many players are in the game for power and dominance, world is torn by ignorance and thirst for riches, friends lost and new enemies made, secrets upon secrets until Otto and Jessa don’t know which way is up. It was quite an adventure. So many important secondary characters that created this new culture, made this story multidimensional and fascinating. I loved Otto’s gruffness to Jessa’s soft touch – their differences and imperfections made them that more beautiful together. The ending is unexpected and leaves one wanting to know more. I highly recommend it!
A Vampire’s Heart is the first book in the Ellowyn Found series by author Kayleigh Sky. This is an action-packed read. There is a ton of information in this book. I would not consider this one to be a light read at all. This is the kind of book you read when you have the time to sink into a new series and really take everything in.
I love the name of the chapters. This story also has a list of characters in alphabetical order at the start of the book. Who they are and what they do.
Otto Jones is a human Detective. He is angry and bitter when we meet him. He wants to find out who murdered his sister.
Prince Jessamine is ready to go into a loveless marriage cause his family demands it. He loves romance novels and detective stories. He also cannot drink synth blood.
When they meet Otto’s heart melts at Jessa’s eyes so full of love and trust. He knows he will change his life forever.
I loved this introduction to the series. There is a ton here to read and digest. I really loved it and cannot wait for more.
