Welcome to the strange and perilous world of Katherine Colebrook: FBI special agent, Los Angeles… Trackers Division. In Katherine’s world, werewolves, vampires, púcas, and other parasapien species – forced for centuries by human fear and prejudice to live at the fringes of society – have finally come out of hiding to demand their rightful place alongside us. It’s a fragile co-existence, fraught … co-existence, fraught with mutual distrust: a new social contract for which the rules are still evolving. And when those rules break down – usually when a parasapien begins preying on humans – that’s when the Trackers step in. It’s their job to hunt them down and stop them by any means necessary.
Within this elite unit, Katherine Colebrook is one of the best. Her psychic abilities made her a natural for the Trackers Division, allowing her to move between the parasapien and human worlds in ways that no other agent could. But Katherine’s calling hasn’t come without struggle and losses along the way. As a single mother, she must contend with her teenage daughter, Alexandra, who not only shares Katherine’s psychic abilities, but seems determined to follow the same dangerous path as her mother.
And so, when Katherine’s latest assignment threatens to bring that danger too close home, she finds herself faced with the toughest challenge of her career: Can she protect her daughter’s life, while battling a ruthless adversary who’ll stop at nothing to destroy her?

In A Tracker’s Tale, we follow the story of Katherine, a brilliant FBI agent, who is physics. She is a tracker, if parasapiens step out of the line, she tracks them down, no matter what. She has a daughter who has the same abilities and had trained her on the down-low. Alex is already almost as badass as her mother. 🙂
Aley is by far my favorite, she can totally kick ass, knows how to handed weapons and at the same time seems like a magnet for trouble. Katherine isn’t far behind, she is brilliant, resilient and the definition of badass, and looks like someone who is fun to hang out with. 🙂 I love the dynamics between them. Even if you are badass you can more than one thing, you can have family and still kick ass on the regular. 🙂
The story is set in a world where parasapiens-paranormal live alongside ordinary people. It’s not all rainbows and unicorns. There is a lot of prejudice and peace seems to be very fragile. I would love to read more set in this place. 🙂
She has to testify before the jury and while in town a friend calls her to examine a case. A girl about her daughter’s age was found alone in the cafe. She is autistic and takes a while to figure out what is going on. Her brother was murdered and a vampire is hunting her. But there is little knowledge about her past. The main storyline follows the murder trial, but there a lot of side investigations. While I like that, it was hard to distinguish what the main storyline really is.
received from author
I was excited to be chosen to read this fantastic debut novel! What I loved most about it was the main character, Katherine. She is a tracker for the FBI, but also has psychic abilities, which she uses in cases involving paranormal beings. The focus was on one main case, but we also got to see several side plots that were part of Katherine’s life. I enjoyed her interactions with various types of beings, and the ways in which she used her psychic abilities were fascinating. I appreciated how the author italicized the psychic parts so that it was clear to the reader what was going on. Also, the visions and sensations Katherine receives add a lot of emotion and detail to parts of the story.
Katherine’s relationship with her teenage daughter Alexandrea was also very well-written. I enjoyed the dynamic between them, and thought it gave me more insight into Katherine as a person. She also has a sense of humor, which was a nice touch to offset some of the more violent parts of the story. (Yes…there is plenty of action in Katherine’s life…she’s not solving these cases from behind a desk! She spends plenty of time out in the field, and often gets to demonstrate her non-psychic skills. There is definitely some violence, but everything was in keeping with the character and story.)
I’m excited to see where this series goes next. There’s plenty of room for readers to learn more about Katherine, and for her to grow as a character. There’s also plenty of options for new and exciting paranormal cases for her to solve!
Katherine is a tracker. She works for the FBI tracking down rogue vampires, shifters, and the like. She is unique in that she uses her gift of sight to aid in her work. She’s not opposed to getting things done off the books, and that makes her one of the best trackers around. After her recent move, things get hectic. She also has to choose a partner in training, something she’s been putting off. We follow her through motherhood, tracking, and more in this exciting read.
Katherine is the heroine we’ve all been looking for. She’s good at her job, she’s incredibly well-rounded, and she’s trained her daughter to defend herself. The fact that she’s willing to go off paper to get things done is what makes her so likable. She will protect her family and loved ones at all costs, even if it means doing things by less than legal means. Avizur has done a spectacular job with a unique storyline and spin on the supernatural. The characters are excellent. There are so many elements involved in this one. You’ve got mystery, suspense, and urban fantasy, all at a thrilling pace. This was such a super fun read. I was hooked from the very start and I cannot wait to continue on with this series.
