Propelled by the same superb instinct for storytelling that made The Kite Runner a beloved classic, A Thousand Splendid Suns is at once an incredible chronicle of thirty years of Afghan history and a deeply moving story of family, friendship, faith, and the salvation to be found in love. After 103 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and with four million copies of The Kite Runner shipped, … million copies of The Kite Runner shipped, Khaled Hosseini returns with a beautiful, riveting, and haunting novel that confirms his place as one of the most important literary writers today.
Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them-in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul-they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation. With heart-wrenching power and suspense, Hosseini shows how a woman’s love for her family can move her to shocking and heroic acts of self-sacrifice, and that in the end it is love, or even the memory of love, that is often the key to survival.
A stunning accomplishment, A Thousand Splendid Suns is a haunting, heartbreaking, compelling story of an unforgiving time, an unlikely friendship, and an indestructible love.

Quite simply, I will read anything he publishes. Such a unique voice! I loved this, and am grateful
to book bub, without whom, I might not have discovered this.
One of my all time favorites. A great read.
Favorite book.
Excellent
Well written with wonderful character development.
I read a little over 100 pages of this book and just couldn’t get into it so I stopped reading it. It just seemed to wander around aimlessly without direction or theme. Slow moving.
One of the best I ever read!!!!
Very depressing
If you only read one book this year kite runner is the one to read
Developed characters. A sense of life and place in times of trouble. Well written.
One of my top ten favorite books
I very seldom give a book 5 stars, but, having read Hosseini’s first 2 books (which I liked) I was anxious to read it. Simply said, I LOVED IT! So far, it’s my favorite of the author’s novels.
I enjoyed this book very much. Recommend the Kite Runner as well
Wonderful story. A real page turner.
Wonderful story with a great culture intermingled.
Beautifully scripted human experience as these fascinating characters navigate through very turbulent and trying times. Excellent read.
It was a very engrossing story. Even though I loved ” The Kite Runner” I liked this book more. The relationship between the women was magical to me. Plus the effect the controlling government had on the people and how they adapted was very enlightening. I would highly recommend this book. It was a very good read
Excellent writing. A harsh, but well told story
Poignant tale that highlights the tragedy of war in Afghanistan and reminds us that it is not possible to go home again.
Great
