An angry woman hurls a glass of wine at Madame Chantel along with … wine at Madame Chantel along with accusations and threats. Before she can be caught, she runs away and disappears into the crowded theme park.
>>>A Godmother’s Mysterious Death
Carol Ripley, Georgie’s Executive Assistant, is distraught when she finds her godmother and namesake dead a few hours later. There’s no apparent sign of foul play, but Madame Chantel’s death comes as a surprise since the sixty-something dance teacher and performer was in excellent health. It’s even more shocking when the investigators soon discover reasons to treat her death as suspicious, and an autopsy reveals someone murdered Madame Chantel.
>>>In the immortal words of Voltaire, “Letus read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.”
Reading maybe, but not dance, apparently. Dressed as she was when Carol found her, with music still playing in the background, was a tango before dying Madame Chantel’s final act?

A Tango Before Dying is an awesome addition to the Georgie Shaw series of mysteries. This book has the usual wonderful cast of characters plus Marvelous Marley World performers. Sadly it is Georgie’s fabulous assistant’s godmother who is the victim. This well written, well plotted mystery has the usual long list of suspects and motives. Who knew there was so much jealousy in the dance world. You will not want to miss Georgie and Jack tracking down this murderer.
There was no figuring this one out until close to the end. A lot of suspects and twists and turns. There’s a new detective heading up this case but Georgie and Jack still solve the murder. I love Miles and Ella, they have such great personalities. I don’t want to give anything away by saying too much so it’s hard to go into anything because it would give it away. Ms Burke always delivers a well written book that’s entertaining and exciting. I can’t put her books down.
A dance with death!
Madame Charlotte Chantal was the featured star attraction at Marvelous Marley World in an exhibition dance with her ex-lover, Kevin Whitley to celebrate the opening of the Ballroom Dance Championship. Unfortunately, her goddaughter Carol finds her dead in her hotel suite shortly before her appearance. Initially thought to be from natural causes, the death closely followed Charlotte being attacked by a known stalker in the dining room. Georgie Shaw and her detective husband, Jack Wheeler, find it suspicious and their suspicions seem justified as Carol and Kevin also become targets.
Suspects abound in this fun cozy mystery. It’s an entertaining read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is the 7th book in the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series, taking place within a year after Georgia and Jack were married. In preparation for the upcoming Ballroom Dance Championship, sponsored by Max and featuring renowned Charlotte Chantel (also Georgia’s assistant, Carol’s, godmother), the couple are to meet for lunch at the Versailles Veranda. Madame Chantel is delightful and elegant, but the luncheon is interrupted by one of her stalkers, shouting insults and threats at the guest of honor. While this situation is quickly remedied, it is not the end of problems. When Carol later finds her godmother dead in her suite, there is the question of whether it is a heart attack or murder. And if it is murder, which one of several suspects was the murderer. Was it the enthralled waiter, Brett; the stalker, Natalie Bucco; her former dance partner/love interest, Kevin Whitley; or one of several others tasked with the dance event. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how Georgia and Jack now interact together as they work through the suspects and their motives. Of course, the really fun part is when they are home interacting with their cats, who also in their own way, help provide clues to the mystery. Georgia as always, is the stabilizing force in keeping “Mad” Max calm and focuses on his sponsorship and the ongoing events. And of course, the tango and other dance tidbits provided throughout the story were fun additions, as well as the yummy recipes at the end of the book.
Georgie and Jack what’s not to love. Another great book in this series. This being book seven. I have enjoyed all of them and this book is no different. Anna Celeste Burke does a wonderful job of writing this series and I love all the interesting murders that Georgie and Jack end up solving. Keep them coming please!
A Tango Before Dying is an excellent addition to the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series. There is never a dull moment at Marvelous Marley World! There were plenty of twists and turns to hold my attention and keep me guessing. I didn’t figure out what was going on until it was revealed.
If you enjoy well-written stories with likable, realistic characters and an entertaining plot, I urge you to read all the books written by this talented author.
Georgie and her detective husband are once again drawn into a murder investigation at Marvelous Max’s Theme park. Of course Max himself tells them they have no choice! When right before the dance competition the star is found murdered in her room–and Max decides that Georgie and her husband should dance in her place–then the lead dancers partner is found at the bottom of some stairs–
This one has lots of twists and turns and it is really difficult to find out or figure out who murdered Madame Charlotte Carol Chantel and who tried to murder her dancing partner. Were the two events related? Who ends up dancing in the competition? Will Max have a heart attack over all this–his notorious temper is ignited!
Read this captivating novel and find out!
“When trouble waltzes in, you don’t always know it, do you?”
Georgie and Jack find themselves dancing through yet another mystery as Georgie’s assistant Carol’s Godmother,Madame Carol Chantal, a world renown ballroom dancer is found dead just before the Ballroom Dance Competition being held at yet another new “Mad Max Marley World” venue. Besides calming down Max, Georgie must support her friend Carol and unravel a complicated string of clues and egos, including the police presence as the steps get more and more crazy. Family issues, bad blood and ungraceful situations abound, making more than Geogie’s cats yowl in confusion.
How does author Anna Celeste Burke do it? How can she keep the tension from overwhelming the reader yet keep us coming back for more? She makes readers care what happens to everyone as we become part of the “scenes” she presents, and treats us to help in finding clues to a satisfying end of every mystery she writes. Another winner! Highly recommended. 5/5
“A Tango Before Dying” is the Seventh book in the Georgie Shaw Series by Anna Celeste Burke. Even though this is book #7 it can also be read as a standalone. This series is an awesome read and has some very interesting recipes also like Steak Au Poivre , Spiced Cookies with a dash of Irish Whiskey, Meringue Baskets with Berries, Blueberry Coffee Cake did I just make you hungry? Go buy the book and the recipes are yours. This excellently written cozy mystery was a very entertaining read. The characters were well developed and very realistic. There were several twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. I was hooked from the first page and didn’t want to put it down until I reached the end. I highly recommend this book for anyone who reads cozy mysteries.
Georgie Shaw and Ballroom Dance Competition
This is book 7 of the Georgie Shaw series. While these books follow each other in a time lime, they stand alone quite well. This story has plenty of viable suspects and lots of juicy personal history of the competitive dancers. I enjoyed the detail the author goes into, just the right amount to keep the reader’s imagination thriving. I get bored with books that go into extreme detail about clothing, food and anything possible. This author only describes what the reader would enjoy knowing and saves the recipes for the end of the book. I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
Marley World is sponsoring a Tango competition, Carol’s godmother is the featured dancer. When Charlotte is found dead Max calls on Georgie & Jack to come figure out what is going on, he doesn’t trust the other police to handle it properly. The coroner rules it as a heart attack. Georgie doesn’t believe it after seeing her dance. He asks coroner to do a drug test. Jack isn’t in charge of the case since there is a conflict with Carol working for Georgie. This time they have other people helping out finding clues. A wonderful book with great characters including the cats
“A Tango Before Dying” earns 5/5 Tango Twists…Totally Engaging!
Anna Celeste Burke is excellent at penning engaging cozy mysteries: clever plots, realistic characters, satisfying solutions. This makes me eager to read her work because I’m in for an entertaining experience. Georgie Shaw is my favorite of her characters. She is easily identified with as a woman “of a mature age,” as well as strong, intelligent, humorous, and acts/reacts to the drama in realistic responses. She has a loving, collaborative relationship with husband/detective Jack Wheeler who supports her “nosy” manner, often joining in, when a suspicious death occurs. In “A Tango Before Dying,” Georgie’s assistant discovers her well-renowned dancer/namesake/godmother dead making this more personal and imperative to solve. The journey toward a great reveal included lots of possibilities, twists and turns, and times I thought I got it, then nope…so much fun! I enjoyed having the focus settle on Georgie’s assistant Carol and set in the Marvelous Marley World amusement park. Ok, I am have been a long-time fan of Anna’s work and always eager to find what recipes she’ll include as an extra treat: Mushroom and Gruyere Tarts (gonna try this first), Steak Au Poivre (an all-time favorite), Meringue Baskets with Berries, Jack’s Favorite Spiced Cookies with a dash of Irish Whiskey, Blueberry Coffee Cake (yummy), The Bombe! I am also thrilled about the “Kathleen Fowler” character! Gotta Read This Book!
A Tango Before Dying is the seventh book in Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw cozy mystery series. In this book the readers are returned to the world of Marvelous Marley World and the many adventures that Georgie has to solve…
The series is a wonderful one to read and features some delightful recipes by the author too. I love that the characters also love cats and share two delightful felines named Miles and Ella who have a knack for murder also.
In this book Georgie and her husband of almost one year, Detective Jack Wheeler are to meet with Carol Ripley, Georgie’s Executive Assistant, Carol’s godmother, Madame Charlotte Carol Chantel, a famous ballroom dance champion, for lunch at the Versailles Veranda. Marvelous Marley World, Georgie’s employer, the sponsor of the International Ballroom Dance Championship and other events. The luncheon was a “meet and greet” for Max and Madame Chantel, followed by a photo op, and then a gala in the evening. However, disaster strikes, during the luncheon when Natalie Bucco, a fellow competitor, creates a disturbing scene in the dining room focused on Madame Chantel. Before the gala kicks off for the It Takes More than Two to Tango charity event, Georgie and Jack are summoned to Charlotte’s Arcadis Park hotel suite by Carol and Max with the distressing news that she is dead.
The EMT said it appears as her heart gave out Carol insists that her godmother was in excellent health. Dr. Vincent, agrees that Madame Chantel most likely died from a cardiac arrest, but also requests an autopsy given the suddenness of her death. Upon further investigation it is revealed her death is suspicious, and the autopsy provides evidence that it was indeed murder.
Carol implores Georgie and Jack to find out who killed her godmother, and Georgie’s boss, “Mad” Max Marley, is completely outraged over the incident and demands Georgie and Jack drop everything and concentrate on finding the culprit. After Kevin Whitley, Charlotte’s dance partner, takes a fall which results in a broken leg before the gala begins, Georgie can’t help but wonder if he’s on a killer’s hit list….
Both Georgie and Jack are very determined to identify the killer. Will they find this person before anyone else is killed? The clock is ticking and time is running out; can the couple figure out the clues and solve the crime?
The author has thrown in several twists to keep the reader guessing until the end. Ms. Burke has written a book with a tight plot and great characters that are well developed. This book is a well-paced read; it keeps the readers attention by attempting to discover who the killer is.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries.
Every time I read a story in this series, I fall in love with the main characters Georgie and Jack all over again. You would think that working in a place like Marleys World would be filled with fun and excitement??? Well the excitement part is right, especially when a healthy woman is found dead. This author really knows how to bring the story alive. It pulls you in from the beginning so you can “hear the excitement of the amusement park around you” . You also feel like you are right in the story along with the characters. To me, this is what makes a writer talented, and Celeste Burke certainly does this, not only in this story, but every one she writes. I really enjoy how just when you think ” so and so ” is the murderer, wham, plot twist ! Will Georgie and Jack every have any peaceful days ???? I certainly hope NOT. Lol I look forward to each adventure they have and to share them as if I was there too.
A Tango Before Dying by Anna Celeste Burke returns readers to the world of Georigie Shaw and Marvelous Marley World.
Georgie and her husband, Jack, are once again plunged into a mystery when Madame Chantel, a ballroom dance champion and Carol Ripley’s godmother,is found dead in her suite in Arcadia Park. Mad Max Marley orders them to drop everything and solve the case. A well crafted plot that tightly weaves, clues, red herrings and enough twists to keep a reader guessing until the startling reveal. I was so glad to see more of Carol, Georgie’s assistant, in this one. I’ve been curious about Carol and it was fun to get to know her better. Ms. Burke has developed these characters so well that I feel like I’m among old friends when I open a new book in this series. This was a perfect afternoon read.
Dancing the Tango Turns Deadly
A Tango Before Dying is the seventh book in Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series and is an enjoyable and entertaining read. This steadily paced mystery is well plotted, the affable characters are well rounded, and the book has enough suspects, twists, and red herrings to make it hard to put the book down. Ms. Burke is a very talented author, and her descriptive writing always makes me feel as if I’m participating in the action as the mysteries unfold. The mystery is well plotted, the affable characters are well rounded, and the book has enough suspects, twists, and red herrings to make it hard to put the book down, and difficult to figure out who the killer is. Both Georgie and Jack are compulsive when it comes to gathering facts and resolving crimes and are determined to identify the killer.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
It took me awhile to get into this book. There are a lot of characters and it sometimes gets a little confusing. Overall, it is a good read.
