Book Two in the madcap time-travel series based at the St Mary’s Institute of Historical Research that seems to be everyone’s cup of tea. In the second book in the Chronicles of St Mary’s series, Max and the team visit Victorian London in search of Jack the Ripper, withess the murder of Archbishop Thomas a Becket in Canterbury Cathedral, and discover that dodos make a grockling noise when eating … eating cucumber sandwiches. But they must also confront an enemy intent on destroying St Mary’s – an enemy willing, if necessary, to destroy History itself to do it.

My first Jodi Taylor read. Time travel was never so fun. Action, suspense, drama, chilling fear, sorrow, gut busting laughter all rolled into an unforgettable, superbly entertaining tale. I read it through in a single setting.
Ended up buying the whole series – and wish there were more in store.
I’ll read anything by Jodi Taylor – probably twice. She not on combines scholarship, imagination and humor in unexpected ways, she has created a little society of history geeks that is actually believable. THE BEST time-travel series I’ve read, and I’m a TT buff of long-standing (think HG Wells, sixty years ago).
Very good writing. Humor, but also love and tragedy handled in a human, realistic way. Excellent and creative series.
The premise of the series is “investigating historical events in contemporary time.”
Great mix of accurate information and reasonable probability in an action-packed fantasy of time travel for purposes of historical research. Helps that the main character is a funny, likable woman!
Finances are tight…..I DID purchase book two. Number one was a freebie on bookbub….I’m probably hooked. Dang.
