A Sweet Christmas Collection: SweetChristmas Series Books One through Three was a great read by Samantha Jacobey. This collection consists of; Christmas Candy, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Carol. Candice’s life hasn’t ever been easy and she struggles each day for her and her son. Gary is a fireman who enters her life even though she doesn’t want to make that mistake. I really enjoyed reading Candy and Gary’s story and can’t wait to read more by Samantha Jacobey.
‘Christmas Candy’
I listened to the 2nd story, Christmas Eve, in this series first. That one was okay but I wanted to know if by listening to this story it might clear up some of the issues in the 2nd. What it did was solidify for me the issues started with this story and carried over to the next. I couldn’t even finish listening to this one.
I was very disappointed that Candy was depicted as a spoiled brat acting more like she was 13 than 24. How Gary could even think about dating someone that self centered and childish I can’t understand. There is a lot of unnecessary narration which doesn’t move the story forward and little enough actual interaction. The story is unrealistic from a fireman leaving the scene of a fire and not even informing anyone where he was going to saying to depicting the fire happened a few minutes ago. Fires of that nature with multiple people needing rescue and with injuries don’t finish in minutes.
I felt the story to be stilted and choppy written by someone just starting out. The narrator did a good job with what there was but there was only so much she could do.
‘Christmas Eve’
Over all a good short story. It was obvious that there was more to the story before this one took place. The segue was fairly smooth and the main points were covered. Because of this I let go some of my concerns regarding the character development which I considered lacking. It also meant there seemed to be more ‘narration’ than I prefer.
The narration was good I liked the various voices and inflections and pacing were in keeping with the story.
I felt a stiltness to the story whether this is a result of the way it was written. Trying to get a lot of information un a short amount of time or from the narration. This was annoying at times.
I received Christmas Eve for free in exchange for an unbiased review.
‘Christmas Carol’
It’s been sometime since I read/listened to ‘Christmas Eve’. I count that as to why the beginning was so confusing to me. After I got everyone straight and their roles in the story, I could sit back and enjoy. I liked all the characters, even Carolyn, though she isn’t all sugar plums and daisies. She appears reformed. I liked how it all played out. The life of this family seemed real, they worked hard, took their responsibilities seriously and life happened
Christine Kelly did okay with the narration. A bit stilted at times but I’m not certain it wasn’t the writing.
I recieved a free Audible copy of this story, at my request, in exchange for a honest review.
