I didn’t hate it. It has good bones. There’s potential in this author to become better. You may connect with this story better than I did, as I am picky and require perfection from a published work. I write for my pleasure. Stories are constantly playing through my mind, but just because I can write, doesn’t mean I should publish my stories.
I couldn’t connect to the characters or to the writing style. The characters were one dimensional, with very few details conveyed. When Bethany arrives on the scene, she is described as a female surgeon. No background history is given and no physical description given except that she has long, brown hair. I have no idea what Luca looks like, as the author never describes his looks either.
The writing is amateurish. The author didn’t display any boldness in his style. It was flat and annoying. The author, at points, wrote with different tenses of verbs from one paragraph to the next, mixing present with future tense in much of the same passive tense I am writing in. However, when publishing a story for others to consume, an author should utilize more than 90% of their verbs in an active voice. For instance, instead of writing ‘is willing,’ use ‘chooses.’ Instead of ‘is passing,’ use ‘passes.’ Active voice makes a story two dimensional. It carries the flow of action, and thus, the drama the reader needs to cause the story to come to life in their mind. A good author pays attention to these small details, as they understand that it is often the small details that support the whole.
This book pulled me in and kept me entranced till the end. The feelings of love, hate, and pain coming out in waves making you want to cry while you read. This was such a beautiful book! I loved the characters wholesomeness!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Luca, A confirmed bachelor trauma surgeon, has his world turned upside down when Bethany, a new surgeon enters his life! Will a misunderstanding keep them apart until a tragedy happens? This is a short story that is entertaining to listen to. David George smooth voice is perfect for this story. I was gifted this audio and offered my honest review.

What I enjoyed most about this Medical Romance novel…
Easy-to-read / Page-turner (Absorbing & quick listen) / Hospital culture / HEA

Ratings:
Story Rating: 4.5 stars!
If you like a quick dip into a medical romance, then this novella will work for you as it did for me. I listened while I hung ceiling hooks for my roommate the Sunday following Thanksgiving.
I really enjoyed getting a glimpse into hospital culture – the jargon, the dynamic between the staff on duty, learning about patient treatments and how these medical professional deal sought out physical and emotional companionship. I, for one, can’t imagine dating or marrying a doctor. Their rotation schedules are insane. How any of them maintain a healthy romantic relationship with someone who isn’t also a medical professional is beyond me.
Performance Rating: 5 stars!
David George has a very nice voice and great acting instincts. I’m looking forward to listening to future audiobooks narrated by him.
Overall Rating: 4.5 stars!
I liked how Dr. Luca Michaelson’s instant lust at first sight attraction to Dr. Bethany Winstead set off a chain of interactions that moved him from being a bad boy, casual sex only kind of guy to a guy who could claim her as a girlfriend, previously a dirty word in a way to him. He needed someone who was his equal professionally and could inspire him to mature emotionally enough to commit to a romantic relationship.
Final Thoughts:
This is a very short novella that could be potentially lengthened but worked just fine for me as a nice palette cleanser. Sometimes I don’t need all the explicit sex scenes and just want to see how a couple connects without those hot details over and over. This one hit the spot perfectly. I’d recommend it to readers who are short on time but want a quick steam-light medical romance.
