Kathleen:It’s bad enough that I’m spending my 29th birthday alone, drunk, and single— I hardly need everyone rubbing it in. From the lady at the corner store to my own grandmother, it seems like everyone’s given up on me ever finding a husband and having a family— except a modern day match-maker I find on line.Jonathon:I spent 8 years finding excuses to put off marrying my college girlfriend— … my college girlfriend— wait till we graduate, wait till my career is established, wait till I can buy a house…until she finally got tired of waiting and left me.
You’d think I’d be more upset about it, but instead I realize she was never the woman I wanted to marry. But I do want to be married and have a family of my own.
Which is probably how I let my mom convince me to sign up for a modern day arranged marriage to a total stranger.
Will Kat and Jon be Raven Swann’s next success story?
***
Like all of the other books in the Modern Match-Maker/Arranged Marriage collection from Rocklyn Ryder, this one is a quick read that’s low on drama and high on cute, with a little naughty thrown in for extra fun. It follows one couple to their happily ever after with no cheating and no cliff-hanger ending.

I absolutely loved this story from Rocklyn with another one of her Match Romance stories. This book had me laughing one min and fanning myself the next. You definitely need to grab this book.
Fabulous
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. “A Sure Bet” is another fantastic Book from Rocklyn Rider and I didn’t want to put it down. It has a Great, enjoyable storyline and really engaging, well written characters. Their chemistry and interaction kept me engrossed in their story from the first chapter to the last. It’s a very good, entertaining must read book that I really enjoyed reading
Celebrating her 29th birthday alone was not the worst part of the equation, no it was when the saleslady decides to “help” her feel better about being alone, on her 29th birthday, getting drunk…..alone. That was the final straw that landed Kat on Raven Swann’s site, looking for a husband.
His niece laying it all out for him to know what he did and didn’t do, and what was being said about this was rough. He had the girlfriend, bought and gave her the ring, but then remained still. For 8 years Jon was with his ex, shouldn’t he be planning, or wanting to move forward with the wedding plans? He knows he wants to get married, and he knows it is time to move.
Raven Swann’s marriage matchmaking services are needed big time with these two, and Raven’s success rate is not to be doubted. Raven’s site has found a match between Kat and Jon. The family and/or friends chosen to represent as teams in this match are hard at work, talking and getting to know one another, even though it seems this is rather easy to do. The day arrives for the first meeting/date. Once they catch sight of each other, there is definitely an instant attraction.
The song from George Strait “Check Yes or No” plays in my head when reading about Kat and Jon for a little while. They know how they feel about the other one, but they are seriously questioning if the other one feels the same way. They spend time together, they talk and laugh, there is a comfort level between them, and then there is that lingering doubt. Just when you feel things are heading completely in the wrong direction, and it will have you wanting to shake them until they realize what they are doing, a comment is made, and the doubt is gone.
That simple little comment, even when it was said in a joking way, was the match that started the fire. It does spark and consume, doubt erased. They realize how real this is, and that this is going to last a long time, they have found their true love and happily ever after. Another successful match for Raven’s site.
Is he the sure bet or just a good baby daddy?
A Sure Bet is another wonderful book in the A Modern Match-Maker Romance series by Rocklyn Ryder. Kathleen (Kat) has just turned twenty-nine today when she stops to buy a bottle of wine at a corner market on her way home. There she is basically accosted by the crazy cat lady store clerk because she does not have a ring on her finger………..so stay single because men are to much trouble and look at my 1000+ pics of my fur babies. The only issue is that deep down Kat does want to be married and have a family of her own. When her roommate Harmony comes back engaged from her romantic get away to Orlando with her girlfriend Vickie (Vix) Kat is happy for Harmony but she also knows she does not want to be a crazy cat lady. With Harmony going to move out she also knows that she does not want a new roommate. Kat finds Raven Swann’s website and makes the decision to contact her and start the process. The one thing I am going to say is that her team is absolutely fantastic. There is her Gammie, a seventy-nine year old hip, hilarious and very frank woman, her great roommate Harmony and her partner Vix.
Jonathon (Jon) is a vet who also wants to be married and have kids. He has been a man who has always thought in terms of “the one” but has not found her quite yet. He had a college girlfriend became his vet school girlfriend who also became his live-in girlfriend. But he never proposed until finally she pressured him into at least getting engaged. But a couple of years ago she broke it off as he would not get married. He has come to the realization that even though he wanted to have a wife and kids he just did not want those things with her. So a lucky escape for them both it would seem. During a visit with his parents in which his mother tries to guilt him into him not giving her any more grandbabies, as his younger sister Chelsea has her daughter Bella, and with no help coming from his father to save him, as he is staying completely out of it watching the game and drinking a beer out on the back porch, Jon admits that yes he does want a wife and family. His mother, Jennifer, is delighted and shows him Raven Swann’s website that she had found. Later on Jon decides to start the process with Raven as he is committed to what he wants. Jon’s also has a great team which is made up of his mother, sister and six year old niece.
Several months later Kat and Jon are both picked by each others team and their first meeting proves to be memorable but also leaves them both unsure about if the other likes them or not, after all they are supposed to be getting married. After a week of texting and phone calls they have their second date which does not go as planned. Kat drove to see Jon who had planned to do a quick stop at his parent’s house because they were excited to see her again and then it was off to a nice dinner and evening alone. But a sharp turn left at his parent’s house ended up with Chelsea and family, including the very precocious but utterly lovable Bella, descending like a cloud of locust with family albums being pulled out, Bella entertaining everyone with a song, childhood stories being told and so much more. Finally, well after their dinner reservation, they were able to make their escape and ended up instead at a local pizzeria getting to know each other over a few beers and a pizza. Jon then takes Kat back to his place to introduce her to his adorable rescue pup Nugget, well actually Chicken Nugget. They are both ready for more and finally when Kat says “you and spoil the kids” he realizes that she is actually thinking about “their kids together”. At that point the gates are opened on all the sexual attraction that has been simmering between them and she is his dessert, every wonderfully creamy and curvy inch of her.
I fell in love with Kat right from the start and Jon quickly followed. But as always Rocklyn has written characters that are hilarious, quirky, lovely, lonely, have self-doubts, are believable and are most importantly ready to take the next step in their lives and are willing to try something that is different to find “the one”. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it and the others in the Modern Match-Maker series.
This is the latest book in the Raven Swan, Matchmaker series. Ravan manages to spin her magic without making an actual appearance in this quick read.
On her 29th birthday, Kathleen finds herself all alone. By this time she had thought she would have a husband and children, but instead she thinks she is heading to the life of being an old lady with cats. Her grandmother thinks she is a lesbian and her gay roommate just got engaged. Desperate times require desperate measures and she goes on line and finds Ravan Swan, the very expensive but very successful marriage broker.
Meanwhile, Veterinarian Jonathan’s college girlfriend/ fiancee, Mindy, recently returned his ring and found someone else. 8 years wasted and he also wants a family, but she wasn’t the one. His mother convinces him to sign up with Raven Swan’s services. 8 months later, Kat and Jon will finally meet, but Kat starts having doubts about her team- they really didn’t think she was series, so is Jon really the one?
This is a fast (took me one hour) fun read. I read an ARC from the author as part of her review crew.
This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
I have read several books on this series and enjoyed this one too. Love the matchmaker storyline. Some of the supporting characters were hilarious( Gammie!). I appreciate a happy ending and no cliffhangers.
I love the Modern Match-Maker books. There’s just something that tickles my fancy about trusting the people that know you the best, that love you the most to choose the person to spend the rest of your life with. I really liked Kathleen and Jonathon. There are some delightfully angsty moments between them. My only real complaint is that their story is over so quickly. We could have dug deeper into those sore spots and gotten an even richer story for it. I can’t wait to read even more in this series.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
A short sexy read. I thought some scenes could have been fleshed out a bit more (even by one or two sentences) but that didn’t detract from the story. I loved the ovary exploding moments with Jon and his niece, Bella. Now, if only Raven Swann was a real person!!
I received an ARC from the author. This is my unbiased review.
I enjoy these match maker books by this author and this time it’s Jonathan, who was engaged and together with the same woman for years but could never cross the finish line with. Kathleen wants a husband and doesn’t want to be alone anymore so she signs up. Jon wants to be marry as well, just his last fiancée he knew wasn’t the “one” and decides to sign up with Raven. The two have been matched, both are attracted to each other but some mixed signals has one of them doubting the other….will they clear it up.
A good read with some steam and insta lust/love that make the perfect match once again. I liked these two but would have liked more interaction between them and a heart to heart especially with the miscommunication. It was there, the doubts and then gone with no conversation, talking about their first meet and why the other was hurt and the insecurity. Otherwise the story flowed nicely with some laughs and the characters were great and I LOVED the no drama between them.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Although it was on the shorter side, it packed a punch. It was nicely written and an enjoyable read. Kat and Jon both want the same thing, get married and start a family. They seem to be pretty compatible.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Sure Bet is book thirteen in the series Modern Match-Maker (Arranged Marriage) by author Rocklyn Ryder (still love that name!!!).
It’s been awhile for this series- but well worth the wait! Even with it’s shorter length – it holds the very same appeal and it’s still full of everything it needs to be a amazing read. Laughs, family( oh family, can’t live with them and you can’t- you get the picture), tantalizing moments and stuff that will cause your heart go pitter patter!!
Enjoy!!
When I first read the blurb I though this book was going to be about two people settling. I didn’t get the love or hear or passion from the blurb and though, okay well I know it’s going to fun anyway.
I was wrong! This was such a funny and sweet story. These two characters really did love each other and that love grew within the pages. I have really enjoyed this series as the author has a unique way of bringing these couples together. In this story one feels like their too old to find love and the other is ready just not with their current person. I loved the side cgaracters and tge balance within the romance. I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review, I also read in KU.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I am a huge fan of Rocklyn Ryder and I especially love her Raven Swann matchmaker romances. This book is no exception. The lead characters, Jonathan and Kathleen (Kat), were totally likeable. It was cute how they were attracted to each other before they met at the skating rink. Funny that Jonathan felt badly about being attracted to the hot redhead when he was there to meet his ‘fiancee’! Part of Raven’s success comes from using the teams made up of family and friends to help choose the marriage candidates for each party. In Jonathan’s case, even his 6 year old niece was included. Besides Kat’s friends, she included her grandmother (Gammie), who had a funny notion about Kat! It’s a short read and I would have loved if it was flushed out more like her other books. We don’t even get to meet Raven in this book at all! But Jonathan and Kat started out attracted to each other and then fell in love. It’s a great, sweet read.
Great Characterizations!
Another successful match it would appear for Raven Swann and another charming romantic tale from Ms. Ryder. These stories do not get old,; I still remember the first few matches of “Ms. Swann’s”, and the magic in the romantic tale is still alive and well. As always, there are many characters involved, where once again all characters are great; all unique and clearly identified. In this story, the main star was the six year old niece of the main male character, with the Gammie of the main female character coming in a close second. Just lovely! Thank you again Ms. Ryder!
I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novella from the author and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation with this author.
It’s a sure bet that you are gonna enjoy this book.
Ok, it was heavy handed with the whole Kathleen turning almost thirty and the whole cat lady incident.
But it sets up the arranged marriage premise.
Jonathon wants a family. Only he kept procrastinating with his old girlfriend, so he agrees to the arranged marriage.
Smart, grown up people identifying what they truly want? Heck yes. Steam and the feels. Yep.
Recommend A Sure Bet.
3 1/2*
Kathleen is feeling lonely her roommate is engaged and moving out & shes getting no younger. Finding Ravens matchmaking website had her interested in applying.
Jonathan ex left him after 8 years telling him he wasn’t invested enough in the relationship. His mother was pleased his sister upset. Convincing them an arranged marriage is the answer.

A short sweet story
For Kathleen and Jonathon, it was time to sit down and find a partner that would fill their lives and their hearts. Their relatives thought that they had wasted a lot of time already and even Kathleen ‘s biological clock was making her want something else, now! Jonathon wanted to be sure and feel a strong emotion for whom would be his partner forever. But past experiences were making them have second thoughts. Could they find what they really needed? Would they be enough for their partner? Time to take out the big guns and seek professional help. I liked how the story flowed with a good insight with the protagonists analyzing their pros and cons, evaluating their choices and reaching the conclusion dictated by the head and the heart. Good characters with a strong attraction, amusing scenes, emotions, funny side characters, romance and passion
I always love Rocklyn Ryder’s modern matchmaker romances and “A Sure Bet” is no exception. I absolutely loved Jonathon and Kathleen’s story. I love how they were immediately attracted to one another without even knowing who the other was and how that connection just carried forward. I love their family & friends that help them get connected especially Bella. It’s a quick read but it doesn’t feel rushed or that they were just getting together to marry. Jonathon and Kat got together because they were not only attracted to each other and couldn’t stay apart because they literally fell in love with each other and wanted to be together forever. What a great book!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
ARC review For honest review. This was really cute story of Kathleen 29 years old realizes she does not want to become a crazy cat lady and hired a marriage broker raven Swann to find her a husband . Jonathon is a veterinarian and after breaking off his engagement with his ex still wants to marry but needs the right girl. I love these stories . Awesome.
I love Rocklyn Ryder’s “A Modern Match-Maker Romance” series they always make me smile. This is the short story of Kat and Jon, Kat just turned 29 and wants to be married and have a family she doesn’t want to end up being a cat lady. Jon was is a long relationship with the wrong woman, one he didn’t really want to marry, but he also wants a wife to come home to and a family. Raven, the unusual matchmaker, is contracted to find amatch for each of them. Jon and Kat had instant attraction and chemistry. Hot, fast and steamy this couple was another perfect match!!
