Despite being beautiful and wealthy, Lady Susanna Macalister’s marriage prospects are rather lacking. Unwilling to let an opportunity pass her by, she decides a loveless marriage is better than spinsterhood, as it will allow her to continue her charities. The life of Ian Carlisle, the Earl of Westcott, has been overshadowed by darkness and guilt for the past decade. Having abandoned his family … family when he was eighteen, Ian’s position within a secret division of the government has provided him an escape from the guilt he feels over the death of his sister.
When the Earl’s horse almost tramples Susanna in the middle of Hyde Park, Ian embraces the chance encounter as a possibility for redemption, for Susanna’s soon-to-be fiance is the man Ian holds responsible for the death of his sister. Can this damaged lord hope to absolve the guilt he feels for failing his beloved sister by saving this vibrant, and unsuspecting lady from a similar fate? And will this charity-minded well-bred lady, who is not the perfectly bound book as Ian assumes, be willing to take a chance on the unstable earl, when something more dignified and permanent is well within reach?

Not Enough Rising Action, Ending Implausible
In this second book about the Macalister siblings, the focus is on Lady Susanna and her would-be suitors, one declared and one not. I thought that the hero of this book, Wescott, had a fascinating and complex backstory that slowly unfurled; I do appreciate in a book not being told everything all at once. I found Lady Susanna to be perhaps a trifle wishy-washy, even though she wanted to be thought of as just on the edge of scandalous in society. This is a relatively long book, especially if you are accustomed to reading novellas which are quite the rage at the moment, but I certainly didn’t feel like there was enough rising action going on with the romance or the suspense element to merit such length, especially in the first half of the story. Instead of rising action in the romance, they seemed to retread the same ground over and over, and that can get a little tedious. Their same reasons for his not wanting to get together kept getting rehashed without any new information. The point at which their relationship became sexual seemed to come out of the blue. And I certainly didn’t buy the suspense ending. As given, it was not foreshadowed adequately to seem plausible. Lady Susanna would have needed to have extrapolated a lot of information from an encounter. While she is a clever woman, she’s not quite that clever. Even though there were these issues with the plot, though, I did find myself wanting to continue to read to see how things would work out between the couple and what would happen with the core suspense of the novel. I did enjoy the epilogue, which takes place some dozen years into the future.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Book two in The Macalisters series once I started reading Lady Susanna Judith Charlotte Macalister, and Ian Carlisle, the Earl of Westcott’s story, I was not putting it down. There is a murdered sister, suspense, drama, danger, lies, the unexpected, and love. This series just gets better with each new book. I felt sorry for Ian because of his Mother’s reaction when he took Susanna to meet her. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Erica Taylor is an amazing writer keeping the reader involved in the story even though taking a break that they need to get back reading it. There is mystery suspense and has the reader feel like they are right there with the characters. Earl Westcott tries to help Lady Susanna solve a mystery and also tries to hide the fact that they are falling in love.

This is book 2 in this delightful and exciting series by an author that I have only recently discovered. In this book, we have Susanna and Ian and a serial killer hiding in plain sight. Susanna is in danger but the only one who suspects it is Ian and he must dig deep to believe in himself and draw on the love of Susanna to save her. It is also remarkably funny at times and I thoroughly enjoyed that too! An engrossing and captivating book!

Ian and Susanna’s story was excellent.
Clara and Susanna are out for a walk in the park with Lord Riverton until an unexpected event occurred. Lord Riverton starts acting strange and leaves the young women. Ian Carlisle did not mean to almost run down Lady Susanna. Now at a house party, Ian feels obligated to warn Lady Susanna of his past with Riverton as he believes that man had something to do with his sister’s death. Now there is so much more I could say about this book but you really have to read it. The ending is horrible, splendid, good, and terrible and will finish the mystery in a wonderful way. The first book in the series was good this one was better cannot wait to start the third book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is was a good book! Great writing and a great plot line. It was book you wouldn’t want to put down. I have it at four stars only because there were a few spots that were slow for me. The story line was something you want to read over and over again.
A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters Book 1) by Erica Taylor is an historical romance and an enticing read. I usually don’t like historical romances but I did enjoy this one. Erica’s attention to detail and writing and her multi layered characters and plot made for an interesting read that kept me on my toes. This story is full of mystery and intrigue, romance and secrets and the teasing and witty banter between the main characters had me laughing out loud.
Susanna is a breath of fresh air and definitely a forward thinker who likes to push the boundaries. The strict social rules of her time only apply when she says so. She is sassy and sweet and witty and sarcastic and has found one person who can keep her from a life of boredom. Now she finds herself caught up in intrigue that could end in the worst of ways.
Ian is looking to find the person who stole his sister. The one who is responsible for so much heartache. When he comes face to face with one mysterious woman, he finds himself thinking of things he has no place thinking about. One woman that can help take his pain away but the one thing he should not have and needs to push away only he can not stay away no matter the cost.
I enjoyed Erica’s story telling and look forward to reading more from her.
A Suitable Affair is a historical romance book. Erica Taylor does an amazing job with historical romance/fiction genre. The subject I did not like the most in school was history. This author makes this genre exciting. Being this is a romance during the Victorian era make this even more beautiful. The characters are fully developed and complex which makes the story move quickly. This story is also interesting because it is not just a romance story, but also has elements of mystery, thrillers and psychological aspects. Lady Susanna is the main character who is in the process of finding a husband. Who will Lady Susanna find as a suiter? Will there be a forbidden love? One will have to read to find out.
A Suitable Affair was a great 5 star read.
We meet Susanna who has decided to pursue something with Lord Riverton since no one seems to be showing interest in marrying her, no thanks to her brothers. She thinks he’s the only one, until she meets Lord Westcott, could there be something there with him?
Lord Westcott (Ian) meets Susanna while walking through the park, after seeing who she is with he decides to get vengeance against her suitor. Ian tries to warn Susanna away from Lord Riverton, will it work? Will he end up falling for her?
Susanna was great, although I think she always got the short end of the stick when it came to her brothers. I didn’t like how they treated her. I really wanted her to find someone that would sweep her off her feet. The secondary characters were great and I look forward to reading more from them. Overall I really enjoyed this book, I had some LOL moments. Erica Taylor has done a great job with her debut book, I was pulled right in by her writing.
A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor a four-star read that will pack a punch. This is the first novel in the Macalisters series, and it shows us what a promising series this is going to be. It’s a historical romance that will surprise you, I am not a huge fan of the genre but after seeing some friends rave about this one and how it was more than just your typical historical romance, I gave it a go and enjoyed it. There was a bit of everything in this story, Lady Susanna Macalister was so much more than I expected her to be, what a fab character. Throw in a couple of great suiters and you have a great story.
A Suitable Affair is book one in the Macalisters series by Erica Taylor. Another new author I get to discover. I am always eager to read new and exciting stories. Words are my passion. Reading makes my soul happy. I cherish the feeling of excitement I get when reading a good story. You can tell that a little something special is added by an author that exists just to provide stories to the world. It seems there is no limit to these creative marvels.
Lady Susan wants to be married. Ian cannot escape the darkness. An unlikely coupling, can they beat the odds? This story was hauntingly beautiful and written with precision and perfect detail. The characters were multi faceted, with varying idiosyncrasies and vast differences, all coming together to compliment, contribute and satisfy. There were unexpected twists to this story, so readers really do get more than they could imagine. A tale that never disappointed, and always delivered exceptionally. 5 stars.

A Suitable Affair ( The Macalisters Book 1) by Erica Taylor is a historical romance that once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. I like this author’s style of writing and her ability to grab your attention and keeps it till the end. The characters are very well developed and made me feel like I was right there with them. There are a couple twist and turns that had me turning the pages trying to figure out what happens next. This is a must read and I highly recommend it. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is the first book in the Macalisters series. This regency era book tells the story of Ian Carlisle, the Earl of Westcott and Lady Susanna Macalister. Susanna is accepting a marriage proposal from someone from Ian’s past. Can he help her before it’s too late?
I love a historical fiction story and this was good because it incorporated in some mystery and suspense which I prefer over just a romance. The characters are interesting and I can see that this series will be interesting since the Macalister family is so large. Overall the story was solid as well as the characters. I liked that there was some backstory and how the stories melded with one another. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
The story of Susanna and Ian is filled with intrigue, passion, and bold decisions. Some of those decisions, however bold they may be, made me want to scream “How can someone so smart be so dense?!” But that makes for better reading.
Susanna is being courted by a man called Riverton and he has the personality of wet paper. The first time he shows a genuine emotion is when Susanna almost gets trampled by a horse. The flash of pure hatred at the rider, but oddly not the situation, is on his face for such a brief moment that Susanna thinks she imagined it.
Ian, the ill tempered lord riding the horse, hold Riverton responsible for the death of his sister and makes a quick judgement about the woman currently being courted by the man he hates.
I am always fascinated by the absurdity of social rules and norms in the 1800’s or so and I’m excited to start the next book and read more about the plethora of great characters Erica Taylor has created.
A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters Book 1) By Erica Taylor. Ok so first of all this wouldn’t be my normal reading but I will say this book was incredible. From page one I was completely drawn into this storyline and it’s wonderful characters. The storyline had me guessing and completely entranced which came as a welcome surprise because it truly isn’t in my normal wheelhouse of reading. This is why one should always have an open mind. The author does a wonderful job of writing characters that readers want to know all about and the attention to details doesn’t go unnoticed. This is my first book by this author and I truly can’t wait for more. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to everyone no matter your preference on genres.
A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor
Five Stars
A Suitable Affair was a entertaining read. It made me want to be in that time. To do things deemed scandalous. Susanna us the type of girl I would’ve been in these times. To bend the rules to fit your will. To make them work for you. I love big family as I have one myself. The joy and craziness is addicting. There was so much pain and sadness from both Susanna and Ian. I really liked the whole espionage but not espionage thing Ian had going on. I liked that Susanna knew what she wanted and didn’t stop herself from going for it saying forget the rules. I don’t like the times because women weren’t seen as people but property. The mother’s only looking to marry their young girls to rich titles. The author made the story light by adding the humor. Ian was perfect because he was serious but also knew how to laugh.
A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters #1) by Erica Taylor
4 out of 5 stars
A Suitable Affair is the first in the Macalisters series written by Erica Taylor and it was really good. I haven’t read a Victorian romance with intrigue in quite a few years so I really enjoyed the story. The characters are strongly written and the loved the banter and quirkiness from them as well.
Lady Susanna Macalister’s is beautiful and wealthy but her marriage prospects are rather lacking. She doesn’t want a life of spinsterhood, so she decides a loveless marriage to Lord Riverton is better than none at all even if he dull. Susanna still longs for true, passionate love, the kind she grew up hearing stories about.
While out strolling in the park she nearly trampled by the handsome Earl of Westcott as he rides through Hyde Park. The earl embraces this chance encounter as an opportunity for vengeance, for Lord Riverton is the very man whom Wescott suspects is responsible for the death of his sister.
He takes it upon his self to warn Lady Susanna but she is surprises him she is not what she seems…. As they get to know each other she realizes she might have found what she was looking for all along. Wescott starts this thing simply a desire to save another unsuspecting lady from his sister’s fate, or something deeper?
Will Wescott find Riverton guilty? Will he be able to save Susanna? Will Susanna get her love story? You will have to read this great story to find out what happens….

A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is the first book in the Macalisters series. This was a fine example of a regency romance.
I always hesitate before reading anything in this genre as I always find it so predictable and boring. However this book was far from both of those. I felt the thrill of the story all the way through. The MC’s were exciting to read about and the story was constantly developing. The book never at any point just sat back and let itself rely on the story so far, it kept pace and kept you interested.
The twist at the end was something I didn’t see coming which made this book even better.
As a new author to me I didn’t know what to expect at all and all I can say is I am so glad I gave this series a chance. I am looking forward to the rest.
A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters #1)
By Erica Taylor
4 stars
A Suitable Affair, book 1 in The Macalisters series, was a really great historical romance read. I haven’t read anything by this author before and I really liked her writing style. The story was detailed and I really liked the characters. There were some good twists and turns in the story too which kept me fully invested in what was happening.
Susanna was a great female lead. I did feel sorry for her at times; she was desperate to find the love that she had always heard stories about but due to family influences was destined to marry someone she definitely didn’t want to. I think this was probably very fitting for the ear that they story was set in so I liked that Susanna had a little determination about her. She deserved to find somebody she loved and who loved her in return.
When Ian first comes into the story I thought he would be perfect for Susanna, he was a nice character but also so frustrating at times! They did seem to have this genuine connection which I loved.
There were some great secondary characters in the story too and I hope they get their own story!
