A Short Novel from Entangled’s Select Historical imprint.
One small mistake in the past will change everything about her future…
Archaeologist Sarah Baxter just broke one of the biggest rules of time travel: leaving a piece of 21st century equipment in 19th century Regency England. Unfortunately, when she goes back to retrieve it, she makes an even bigger mess of things-resulting in the death … of things-resulting in the death of an English Earl. Now his brother is not only out for revenge, but he also has Sarah’s device. Which means an entirely different approach is needed.
It doesn’t occur to the new Earl of Earnston that his charming acquaintance is responsible for his brother’s death. He is merely swept away by a passion that threatens his very reputation. Yet he gets the distinct impression that Miss Baxter is hiding something from him. Now Sarah must find a way to steal back her device, hide the truth about the earl’s brother and-most importantly- not fall in love…

This book hit me right in the feels… a couple times. The writing was really good, I love when I come across a book and I can feel every emotion. The characters were great and the story line was fun. It was a good pace and easy to follow.
An Earl and a young lady from the future fall in love. Her involvement in his brother’s death and the object she came back for create a wall between them. It seems to be a hopeless situation..or is it? Everytime I was drawn away from this book, I couldn’t wait to get back to it.
This book was touted as a time travel romance. Sarah Baxter is an Archaeologist who works for her father’s business. When she is sent back in time to retrieve a piece of a Time Arch, she instead becomes part of the cause of death of an English Earl. After returning back to her own time, she and her partner, Richard, are again sent back to the Regency era to get the fragment.
Once she meets the twin brother of the dead Earl, she has to guard her heart against falling in love with him. Can she get the piece and return to her time with her heart intact? Or, will she succumb to Eric Earnston’s charms?
I have mixed feelings about this book. It starts out with a bang, then it becomes a tale of a woman trying to deny her attraction to the Earl, then giving in to him. There were several steamy sex scenes in the book, so be warned if that isn’t your idea of a good read.
I did have a problem with Sarah’s behavior in the past. For an Archaeologist, she doesn’t seem to have done much research into the Regency era. I seem to know more about acceptable behavior of those times just from reading historical fiction. And, even though she didn’t adhere to the proper behavior, nobody seemed to be suspicious in the least.
Also, I would have liked to know how the fragment ended up in the past in the first place. It is never really explained to my satisfaction. The book was more about the love affair between the two main characters and not very much about the time travel at all.
The narrator did a pretty good job, but some of the accents were a little off. All in all, it was a decent book, but not a great one.
This is quite the story. I am not usually a fan of time travel stories. This one surprised me. It had been a while as well for reading a historical romance. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The characters were good and interesting. I became invested in Eric’s story more and more as the pages flipped. I could almost feel his attraction and love for Sarah. He seemed so earnest and truthful that I hated seeing him played by Sarah. Towards the end it just proved that more true. His life was agony and sad. I really felt for him. Sarah was in a similar situation but I just didn’t connect with her as much.
This is my first book by this author. She did a wonderful job of making me feel for these characters. I did listen to this on audio and Lillian Yves did a wonderful job.
Exciting, Wonderful & Captivating Book.
Time Travel with a Difference!
I loved this story with its clever time travel theme written into a love story – one could say that in this instance true love really does transcend the test of time.
Sarah and the Earl of Earnston briefly meet under undesirable circumstances and later meet again and so the story continues until it reaches a most desirable ending.
Not only did I enjoy the story itself, (laughing or crying at times) but I was captivated and entertained by the very talented Lillian Yves and her many entertaining voices in the audiobook version.
Brilliant work from two amazing artistes and I happily recommend both the book and the audiobook versions.
I voluntarily listened to a free audiobook version and my review above is unbiased.
