From afar, Cimarron Creek seems like an idyllic town tucked in the Texas Hill Country. But when former schoolteacher Lydia Crawford steps onto its dusty streets in 1880, she finds a town with a deep-seated resentment of Northerners–like her. Lydia won’t let that get her down, though. All will be well when she’s reunited with her fiancé. But when she discovers he has disappeared–and that he left … left behind a pregnant wife–Lydia is at a loss about what to do next. The handsome sheriff urges her to trust him, but can she trust anyone in this town where secrets are as prevalent as bluebonnets in spring?
Bestselling author Amanda Cabot invites readers back into Texas’s storied past to experience love and adventure against a backdrop of tension and mystery in this first book in a brand-new series.

I read this via audiobook and found it to be an engaging read as it set the backdrop for the characters and town of Cimmaron Creek. Lydia’s dilemma roped me in from the beginning and the subsequent mystery and developing romance kept my interest. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Disclosure: There is a brief mention of a suicide.
There is a lot going on in this story that is hard to figure out for the sheriff and the readers. It is a very enjoyable read, it will keep you guessing!

I love the characters here in Cimarron Creek. I love the hero, Travis, and heroine Lydia. I love that he admires her brains as well as her beauty. There are a lot of mysteries to solve in this town, and plot twists and we get to see some good changes in people who we doubted would ever change. Amanda Cabot brings a lot of clever planning together to a good resolution and a happy ending. I can’t wait to start the next in the series!
Fun easy to read romance novel.
Love the twists and turns in this “old west” romance. I felt like I was right there and feeling the emotions. So well written – it was difficult to put down.
This book was great! I loved the characters and settings and storyline and it really was great! I thought it was interesting to have some of the citizens having more than one job or interest. Like the sheriff being a lawyer, a teacher who was also a candy maker, a mayor who also runs the post office, etc. I feel like that only makes sense. I’m sure not all places where like that, but that some where. I also thought it was interesting how Amanda Cabot included the aspect of people trying to hide anything negative to be a good example as the “founders” of a community. I could totally see how that could be a thing and happen. Also, like I said I loved the characters! Especially Lydia, Travis, and Aunt Bertha.
I highly recommend it. Could not put it down. One of my favorite authors.
I read a lot and this book really impressed me I liked it
Another nice read on a summer day, with the setting in the old west, where life was simpler, yet often hard. I like everything Amanda Cabot writes, so far.
I hope there are many more books in this series. I give it a 5!
This is a Historical fiction with a twist. This is a story about Lydia Crawford , a schoolteacher from Syracuse, New York who comes to Cimarron Creek thinking she will be marrying Edgar. No one likes her because she is a Northerner or like some call her a carpetbagger. When she comes to Cimarron Creek she finds out that Edgar is missing and he is also married and his wife is expecting. She has no where to stay so the Sheriff ( Travis) finds a place for her with his Aunt Bertha Henderson. Lydia and Aunt Bertha hit it off well and become close. Unsolved mysterious start to happen around town and fingers get pointed. Will they find out who is causing these crimes? Will Edgar be found? Will Lydia find love? This is a wonderful book full of surprises. Can not wait for the second book in this Trilogy.
Really enjoyed the characters and the story. It was a wonderful and relaxing read.
Got impatient with the lead lady in this one.
This was a very predictable, too good to be believable story. It was however cute, clean, and a bit refreshing after some darker books I’ve read lately.
If you like an easy read where everything is good and ends happily ever after then you might like this book. Even though it is Christian, it is not annoying or in your face, just clean.
**There is a couple of light kisses and talk of maybe a marriage happening because someone is pregnant.
