New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni’s thrilling series continues as Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite is plunged into a case of family secrets and murder… feeling that this is no ordinary missing-persons case. When the body turns up in an abandoned well, Tracy’s suspicions are confirmed. Estranged from her family, the victim had balked at an arranged marriage and had planned to attend graduate school. But someone cut her dreams short.
Solving the mystery behind the murder isn’t Tracy’s only challenge. The detective is keeping a secret of her own: she’s pregnant. And now her biggest fear seems to be coming true when a new detective arrives to replace her. Meanwhile, Tracy’s colleague Vic Fazzio is about to take a fall after his investigation into the murder of a local community activist turns violent and leaves an invaluable witness dead.
Two careers are on the line. And when more deadly secrets emerge, jobs might not be the only things at risk.

The author does a terrific job creating suspense. His characters are well-formed and the plot takes the reader on a roller coaster ride. Well done.
exc writer writing excellently
I’ve enjoyed every book in this series!!!
Read the series in order for a great experience. Moves between 2 interesting cases. Enjoy the detail of police work and balance of character development. Dugoni never disappoints.
Another fantastic book in what has been a great series!! This one was a bit more gritty and emotional for me but I really enjoyed it. I love how the author keeps me on the edge of my seat and guessing what’s going to happen next. I also love how everything always falls into place at just the right time. I love following Tracy and the rest of the teams thought process while they try to solve some brutal crimes. I am eager to find out what happens next for them all.
This is number six in the Tracy Crosswhite series. You can read this story first, but you will miss a lot of the history on each character.
Tracy Crosswhite is asked to help with a possible missing person case. A young Indian woman saving for medical school is very upset when her best friend returns from India and tells her she is married. The friend agreed to a arranged marriage, which is a custom in their culture. However, the two girls, best friends since childhood promised each other not to give in to their parents demands and agree to arranged marriages. Tracy has a bad feeling that this case will end badly.
A new detective, Gonzalez joins the team. Upon meeting, Gonzalez asks Tracy how far along she is in her pregnancy. This makes Tracy very uncomfortable, she has been keeping her pregnancy a secret. Her partner Kins is the only person at work that knows. Tracy feels that Chief Nolasco has hired Gonzalez to replace her. Tracy feels that since Gonzalez is female and Hispanic, Nolasco knows she can not argue that she is being discriminated against if she is replaced. Nolasco has had it in for Tracy since she joined the department, this having to do with a incident at the police academy while Tracy was a student and Nolasco her teacher.
Officers Del & Faz are investigating the murder of a local activist, Monique Rodgers in South Park. South Park is a area with a high crime rate, the neighborhood is overrun with drugs and gangs. Del is out with a back injury, so Faz and Gonzalez go to South Park to interview a possible suspect in the murder investigation. They believe Little Jimmy, a known drug dealer ordered the suspect Lopez to murder the activist Monique Rodgers. Little Jimmy is the son of Big Jimmy a major drug dealer that Faz sent to prison years earlier. The suspect is killed and both Faz and Gonzalez are being investigated, when Faz learns that Gonzalez is lying to the investigators and she is basically throwing Faz under the bus.
The detectives are working hard on both investigations, which both have surprising twists and turns.
I have read every book in the Tracy Crosswhite series, each one has been a very enjoyable read. I look forward to more in this series. Thank you Robert Dugoni for another great book!
