An incomplete story: the ending poses an unanswered question which prods this reader to purchase the next in the series which I won’t. I don’t care for books that are written only to sell more books.
Spoiler alert. It would seem that the topic is more about vampires than spiritualism.
a bit slow to catch interest
After reading I purchased the rest of the series and can’t wait to dive in for a binge read!
Easy to read, but just a bit too predictable.
It took me a while to kind of see where the threat was coming from. It’s more fun if you can’t figure out the conclusion too soon!
Enjoyed the character’s
Great book. If you like ghost stories you’ll love this book!
First of all, I’m pretty picky regarding which books Inrecommend. Just because I wouldn’t recommend this book, or read the remaining books in the series, doesn’t mean there was anything wrong with it. In fact, this book did a lot of things right.
I really enjoyed several aspects of this novel. Most fiction today feels like it was written by a teenager. Though the story being told is important, the way in which it is told can make or break a book. This one was way better written than so much of what is in print currently.
The basic plotlines of the novel not new ones. *Spoiler Alert*
A grieving widow finds herself joining casual acquaintances for a weekend of paranormal inquisition at a remote and isolated estate. Murders start, and it’s up to our heartbroken heroine to save herself by catching the killer. She must then survive the catching of said killer so that she can live to enjoy the love and hope of a happily ever after that she’s stumbled into in the arms of the man at her side during the hunt for the above killer. Who she, of course, must rescue at some point.
All very predictable. In fact, this book reminds me of nothing so much as a scrapbook of fiction’s “greatest hits” as far as plot lines, token characters, “surprise” developments and hidden agendas go.
In my eyes, what made this book appealing was the way the “old classics” were assembled and, of course, the quality of the writing.
Reading this book was a pleasant way to spend a few hours. Though, as I mentioned, I will not be reading the other books in this series, I am certainly not left feeling like the time spent reading this was time I’ll never get back.
Very interesting characters and it gave the reader a really Fresh Approach to a ghost story. The author had a really good command of the time period. It was hard to put this book down.
It was a good book
I really enjoy the victorian stories and this was a surprise!! And then more surprises!! Easy read but lots of twists to keep you going. Wanted it to be longer…..
A different twist on a haunted house mystery with romance. I enjoyed it. I’ll willingly read other books by the same author.
Good easy read for fantasy fans.
Fun story, ready for the next one. Have to like ghost stories
Very boring
I enjoyed reading this book. It is part mystery, part ghost story, and all fun. Couple of unexpected twists at the end and leaves the reader feeling good. Interesting characters!
