Fantastic book. First time reading something from this author and thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfect quick read and look forward to reading more.
Excellent mystery
Characters are realistic even for a ghost story!
Clue meets Penny Dreadful.
Great characters!
A widow who was so heart broken she sold her home and bought another. Still she felt lost and the house came with gentle servants but also Clara’s special gift came to life which drew her into intrique and fight for her life.
I love historical novels and I love sci-if and fantasy but I don’t often come across the combo. Very well written, surprising and very good.
I didn’t really find it interesting. The main character did not seem believable. I deleted it after I read it.
Excellent read was happy to see something new and original.
Good series starter
Clara is still heartbroken from the death of her husband 6 months ago but she is determined to move on. She has sold everything and bought a new house with no painful memories from Lord Horace Oroberg. As Clara is soon to discover, the butler and housekeeper are not the only residents living there. There is also has the ghost of a young woman who appears to be trying to tell her something. In trying to find a way to communicate with the ghosts, Clara finds herself drawn into a world of the paranormal, séances, and mortal danger.
Kate Danley does a good job of laying the groundwork for a paranormal mystery series. There are some good possibilities for future books in this Victorian setting.
I enjoyed the characters, especially Clara. But I have to admit it was a strange story, but yet intriguing. The series may turn out to be as intriguing and not so strange.
A litle bit slow for my taste. The last chapter however enticed me enough to buy next book wich was more dynamik than this.
This was a pretty cool mystery/supernatural ghost story. The main character was vulnerable. The romance was subtle.
I enjoyed the first half of this book quite a bit. However it became over-the-top for me by the end and i was disappointed. The writing style is pleasant, the characters seemed interesting, but it was just too too “supernatural”.
A fast easy read. Characters were nice, story was a bit predictable, but enjoyed reading this book.
Entertaining read for a realistic fantasy. A fun Victorian romp.
Not a bad story just not my thing with that unconventional ending.
An enjoyable supernatural story. It was a quick read, not a full length novel. Interesting characters.
I liked this book. I bought the second book.
This was a fast and intriguing read. The plot hooked me from the very first page. I was highly disappointed by the ending, which seemed rushed with all kinds of supernatural and gothic twists thrown in the last pages. I felt that what started as a wonderfully paced and well thought out plot, turned out into a mixture of horror elements. All in all, the characters in A Spirited Manor are well written, with their quirks and behaviors really connecting with me as a reader and pulling me into the story.
Definitely unexpected. There was one point I was unsure if it was historically accurate. However, based on the unexpected part, it it could be an alternate, similar universe tale, and then that small detail could easily be accurate.
