BEST NOVEL OF THE YEAR, BRITISH FANTASY SOCIETY • Discover the magical beginning of Piers Anthony’s enthralling Xanth seriesXanth was the enchanted land where magic ruled—where every citizen had a special spell only he could cast. It was a land of centaurs and dragons and basilisks. For Bink of North Village, however, Xanth was no fairy tale. He alone had no magic. And unless he got some—and got … unless he got some—and got some fast!—he would be exiled. Forever. But the Good Magician Humfrey was convinced that Bink did indeed have magic. In fact, both Beauregard the genie and the magic wall chart insisted that Bink had magic. Magic as powerful as any possessed by the King or by Good Magician Humfrey—or even by the Evil Magician Trent.
Be that as it may, no one could fathom the nature of Bink’s very special magic. Bink was in despair. This was even worse than having no magic at all . . . and he would still be exiled!
Thus begins Piers Anthony’s enthralling Xanth series. . . .

I have read this series in hard back but it has been a few years so I am going to re read them. I remember them being very “punny”
Read this one when it first hit the stands and fell in love with the concepts and the characters. Had to have it in Kindle edition.
One of the first fantasy books I read – so may be better suited for young adults. But Xanth is an entertaining world to delve into.
Fantastic book. So original. Loved the characters.
Read all of this series years ago. Now I’m reading them again! Love piers Anthony!!!
Piers Anthony is the pun master! The first in a fun series, highly recommend!
I read this book years ago and was smitten. Mr Anthony creates great characters and lets them loose in an amazingly fun and interesting world. Thoroughly recommend!

As always it was great to return to Xanth. Love this series and Piers Anthony.
This book and the series are written for teenage boys.
Bink is a great character. Have read all of the books in series and everyone is a goodread.
A good read for any one who enjoys puns. A beginning to a wonderful world of fantasy and surprizes.
The writer has a creative mind
Pure cotton candy, a fun read with very little substance.
This was the first of the Zanth novel I read, got hooked … I am up to the 28th book in the series.
A great quest book with no concrete destination, so your imagination can fly and pretty much every twist is unexpected. The only things I don’t like about this book are the few scandalous scenes. (I’m quite conservative.) But the author handles them well and there’s nothing pornographic.
This an excellent and a fun beginning to long running series. It is a story of the triumph of an underdog. I really enjoyed it.
This early book by the author was fresh And entertaining. He was not quite as fixated on sex instead of story as in his later books.
The characters were well done and likable and the xanth world building captured my attention from the beginning.
Really enjoyed this as a teen.
I read this whole series (up to then) as a child. I can’t wait to reread them and discover new volumes. These books are so fun they really opened me up to the variety of writing styles even within a single genre. Fun for a wide range of ages.
