A Snow Covered Nightmare: Refuge Series Book Two by Debbie Zello. This was the first book I have read by Debbie Zello but after this adventure I can’t wait to read everything she’s ever done. I read this book in one sitting. Its about Briah a strong independent woman who has just come out of a very bad relationship. In Denver she has a great job and wonderful boss until she witnesses someone murder her boss. They soon become involved in a romantic relationship. During the investigation they figure out that the person responsible for the murder is non other than Denver’s biggest crime boss David Slater. After testifying against the crime boss Briah is given two choices, either stay and be a target or go into Protective Custody. Will she choose to be a target and keep Aiden and the new job she loves or will she leave everything behind again and go into Protective Custody and start all over. Read A Snow Covered Nightmare by Debbie Zello you won’t be disappointed!
A Snow Covered Nightmare: Refuge Series Book Two (The Refuge #2) by Debbie Zello was a slow burn murder mystery that leads you into a false since of security.
Right out of the gate this book tosses you into the fire. It spared no details getting your anxiety up, and your heart pounding. That was a cold open like no other and it dug in it’s reading claws. Form there one wards we are rushed into a bloody race agents time as the clues lead up to something more then deadly.
Before I get into characters and what loved about this book, I have to tell you that for me, after the heart ripping opening, and when the initial investigation got under way, it slowed down, like about 30% in, it got slow. The trial part is what I’m talking about. Because after that, as the story moved towards the end, it picked right back up again, and I was flipping pages like no other. But that 30% – about 55%-ish, didn’t quite do it for me. I don’t know if it was because the author had thought up a great beginning and ending, and was trying to bridge the gap, or the author was trying to slow it on purpose, to make for a bigger more impacting climax, to out do the opening. Either way, I think another go at it would help polish out this outstanding murder mystery. I’m not saying the writing was bad, it wasn’t, it just didn’t match the rest of the book.
Outside of that I loved everything else about this wonder. The MC Briah, she was a spit fire and I loved how she wasn’t the damsel in destress (you know what I’m talking about). She proved herself capable more then once, and she out shined the alpha male MC by miles. Sure Aiden was okay, I did like him, but it was like I’ve read about hime before. I didn’t get anything new, the only thing I can say that differs him from others like him, was that he wasn’t the pushy MC. He was sweet and respect Briah and didn’t treat her like a damsel, or like a piece of property. There was realism in that, that made me respect him. As a couple, they fit, and I believe and felt their attraction.
Overall, this was a treat to read and though this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone. So no worried if you haven’t read that first book. But in saying that, I have, and I will say that you got to get you hands on it! Debbie Zello has a way with words and murder mysteries. This book, like the others of have read, is a testament of that.
So please take my super high recommendation that you need this books, and Debbie Zello books in your life.
Happy Reading

This book had the perfect combination of suspense and romance. I read this book as a stand-alone not having read the first book in the series. I believe it stands on its own well but I look forward to going back to read book one. I continue to thoroughly enjoy this author’s writing style and character development. Yet another book where I was drawn in on page one and couldn’t put it down before finishing. Loved this book and definitely recommend it.
A Snow Covered Nightmare by Debbie Zello is the second book in her Refuge Series. As good as the first this one will leave you wanting to read more by this author.
Imagine being the only witness to a murder. Imagine that murder was of your boss. Now imagine that the people responsible, the biggest Crime Boss around, wants you found. Briah knows her life is never going to be the same. She has a price on her head and is relying on a detective to keep her safe.
However when things go awry Briah is sent into witness protection and is sent to the mountains. She finally feels like she is safe from those looking for her. It is almost possible to forget everything going on. However there is only so long that she can hide for before the past catches up.
I enjoyed this book and the whole story. I really liked Aiden. I enjoyed reading about his character and the development throughout the book. I thought the book was exciting and well written. This was a great addition to the series as a whole.
A Snow Covered Nightmare- Debbie Zello
5-star review
A Snow Covered Nightmare by Debbie Zello is a phenomenal read! This is the second book in the Refuge series and can definitely be read as a standalone. However, the first book See You in September was amazing and is definitely worth a read! Debbie is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors as her stories always manage to captivate me from the start. Her characters are so relatable and easy to connect with and her attention to detail makes the story flow seamlessly. This is a book I read in one sitting as I was so caught up in the storyline that I just couldn’t bring myself to put it down. I love how there always seemed to be something going on which kept me engaged the whole way through. This story is suspenseful, action-packed, intriguing, surprising, dramatic and romantic. It’s full of twist and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. I can’t wait to read what Debbie has in store for the rest of this series!
I would absolutely recommend this book and series to anyone looking for their next read!
