I didn’t hate A Slow Burn, but something kept me from loving it. I liked the small town feel of the city and the characters. I think I didn’t connect with Jackson in this story and that her came across kind of jerky. That being said, there wasn’t a whole lotta talking in this book so he didn’t get a chance to change my mind lol. I would read a full length book in the series and see how that goes.
This is a tough book for me to review. It is a short novella that introduces the characters in the Stories from Beauville series. I like Annabelle. She is a strong woman even when faced with insecurities. I really did not connect with Jackson. He is an admitted player and the book just wasn’t long enough for him to redeem himself. Because the book’s purpose is to introduce the characters in the series, I do not want to give a star rating without reading the rest of the series. The book does have one of my biggest pet peeves for romances – Jackson asks Annabelle to have sex without a condom. He promised he had never had sex without one. Despite the fact that she knows he has slept with a ton of women and she is not on birth control, she agrees.
This book is just the prequel to the beginning of the series, a short. It introduces you to the characters which are Annabelle Macon who left her home town after high school went to New York and is now back years later after the job she had did not work out. Going to the towns Fourth of July celebration with her best friend Joey who she grew up with.
Once at the celebration Sheriff, Jackson Storme is surprised to see his sister’s best friend Annabelle looking as hot as she does. This, not the person he remembers who us running around with Joey. Now you have a sexy woman who has left New York and Jackson wants to be with her. What he does not know is that she has had a crush on him her whole life so all she is looking for is one night of pure pleasure and fun, for she wants to return to New York.
The story works as a set up for what will come in the next books there are three. Though this was written in 2014 it still fits for today and was a very good read, hopefully, I will come across the rest of the books soon. I liked the story and the characters.
This was a super quick read, but still manage to completely suck me in to this entire town and now I’m like an addict, desperate for more.
It takes place in a small southern town where some of the women are self-proclaimed to be crazy, everyone knows everyone and THINKS they know everyone’s business and the drama is set on high. So is the heat level.
Still there’s laugh-out-loud moments. Eden packs a lot in to what amounted to a 30-40 minute read.
I’d probably call it somewhere around 4-4.5 stars for addictivity and fun.
Though this book is either in need of an editor or, perhaps the wrong version was uploaded to Amazon. I borrowed this book via Kindle Unlimited and it doesn’t have one consistent tense at times. So I might call it 3.5-4 stars ultimately, as it stands.
Still an amazing way to spend about a half hour or so, and as I write this, addicted just as bad to Give and Take (Stories of Beauville Book 2), so completely worth the read.
