He’s a pop singer running from his past. She’s a deejay who’s given up on men. Little do they know how much a case of mistaken identities will fill in the missing pieces of their future.Former boy band hottie, Aiden Spark, distanced himself from everything he valued—faith, family, and fame—when he lost his girlfriend. A decade later, he’s still hiding behind his grief when he accidentally texts a … grief when he accidentally texts a woman who’s all too curious about his identity.
Burned by the men in her life, deejay Abby Dearan has chosen to focus on her newfound faith in God and use her radio presence for good. Her plans are thwarted though when a text message—and the irritating man who sent it—won’t leave her in peace.
Aiden can’t forget the woman who reminds him so much of his first love; Abby can’t remember the last time a man made her feel so beautiful. To make matters worse, it’s impossible to avoid one another when their siblings and friends—not to mention, divine intervention—keep pushing them together. Will the sparks igniting between them end up in flames or romance?

I’ve seen a lot of mention on various SM platforms of Liwen Y. Ho’s novels, but have not read any of her books until now. I’m sorry I waited so long to get to one of her stories! After reading A Single Spark, I definitely plan to read the rest of this series as soon as possible. A Single Spark is a really fun, really sweet Contemporary Romance. I had a ton of fun with this book and loved the escape it afforded me. I found the plot to be highly engaging and super fast-paced. The characters are great. I love Aiden’s and Abby’s bickering-to-friendship-to-romance relationship. The progression is fun and realistic. Nothing moved too fast or too slow in their romance. I quite enjoyed how Abby’s feisty personality awakens Aiden from his decade-long, self-imposed emotional stupor. My favorite aspect of this story, however, is the discussion on coincidences. First, there is no such thing as coincidences, there’s only God; and, boy, does He work hard to grab our attention! In this story, there are A LOT of coincidences. At first, they kind of took me out of the story, and I thought to myself,” How can ALL of this be possible?” But, I got over myself and realized that this is the vehicle Ho is using to make her point: God is the Boss, He orchestrates our lives no matter how much we fight Him or deny Him, and He is looking out for our best interests even when it doesn’t feel like it. This message was a seriously great reminder for me. All in all, I loved A Single Spark, I cannot wait to read book 2, and I highly recommend this super sweet story to anyone interested in reading a well-written, lovely Contemporary Romance with a great message.
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on July 5, 2019, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This is a new author and series for me. I love the idea of a whole family of guys whose last name is Spark. What fun this series is going to be.
I’ve enjoyed reading this first book with Aiden and Abby. They are both so full of spunk and determination. The way they meet and interact is so delightful and crazy. There truly were sparks flying, some good and some bad!
I think you will get a kick out of this book and the whole story of finding love even when at first it seems there’s no spark!
Liwen Y. Ho is a new-to-me author and I know I will be reading more of her books. Her writing is smooth and the story flows with wonderful characters and dialogue. I had a problem of not wanting to put this book down. It truly was enjoyable! I was truly caught up in the story and didn’t want it to end.
The relationships with friends and families are so real. When we can put ourselves in the characters’ lives and understand the pains and joys, that is what makes a book great! This author has done that!
I see there are more books in this series with each of the brothers, now I’m looking forward to reading more of these fun characters!
I highly recommend you pick this book up.
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
this is the second book I have read byLiwen Ho. and love her writing. This a well written book with great dialogue. The story is about Aiden who is a professor at a local college, but once was a famous boy band singer. The other main character is Abby who is outspoken and quirky. She finally drags Aiden out of his reclusive and deprssive shell. Very entertaining fun Christian romance.
I just really liked this book!
A singing professor and radio DJ have difficulty adjusting to rheir feelings for each .other. Good Christian God centered novel?
Loved reading! Eiden losses the love of his life to cancer. Meets Abby through a miss sent texted. A must read!!! Thank you for your talent!
Entertaining, a bit predictable but a great fun inspiring read. Think I would like to know more about this family.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’m now reading #2 in the series.
Well done characters with realistic flaws and strengths. the way they meet is interesting and the way they keep getting thrown together was fun to read.
They care about each other without expecting the feelings to be returned… but of course they are.
Despite their sad pasts, the story is sweet and hopeful.
Loved this story! So awesome!
A Single Spark by Liwen Y. Ho is the story of the chance encounter between Aiden Z. Spark, former member of a boy band now turned professor of the “Intro to Women Studies” class (!), and Abigail (who can go by Abby or Gail) Dearan, deejay at a popular local radio station. Little do they know that a certain text message sent not to its intended recipient by mistake will lead to a second chance in love for the girl who had already sworn off men, and for the guy who still wasn’t over the loss of his high school girlfriend. Well, that, and the help of a certain group of meddlers, aka Aiden’s brothers plus Abby’s friends.
What really hooked me was the intrigue with which the book starts and the wondering of how long it would last till the two MCs met. Of course, there was also the issue of how those two would react once they knew who the other one really was, but that also added to the fun of it. What I didn’t expect was for this book to be heavily dosed with Christian references, but I absolutely loved every reminder that I found along the way. Also, I didn’t expect to like so much the rest of the Spark’s brothers, but now I’m eagerly awaiting their own books (and rooting for them to also find their own HEA).
All in all, Ms. Ho’s deliver another really great book that can be devoured in one (or, given the necessity, two) sitting(s).
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

MY TAKE
I loved this book! I’m not normally into antagonistic relationships and that’s how Abby and Aiden’s starts, all because of a missent text. Aiden has good reasons for wanting to preserve his identity. His old life is long past. In his suffering back then, he’d made a lot of mistakes that he’s not proud of and has worked to build a new life, one that DJ Abby could ruin.
The chemistry sparks (see what I did there?) from the beginning. The two actually have a lot in common if they can get past their prickliness. The story builds to an almost comedy of errors scene. Things aren’t quite resolved then, but a happily for now is in store. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Characters were all too intertwined to be realistic. Sophomoric
I adored this story to me it read like a romance movie (the Christian themes flowed really well with the story). I was giddy and giggling while reading, I didn’t think the story was going to keep my attention but I couldn’t put the book down.
Will I read the next one in the series?
Yes
Trigger warning: mention of Aiden’s first love dying of cancer but
no details
I loved this story of Aiden and Abby! When a mysterious professor and a deejay get into it on the air, the happenings are not expected by either! Grand gestures, advantages to their own professions… I also LOVED that Aiden found himself again!
A fun spunky heroine and a plot with plenty of spark make this a story that I absolutely couldn’t stop, once I started!
Aiden Spark was in a boy band (Yes, I pictured Justin Timberlake.). He was raised with Christian values and his girlfriend helped keep him grounded to what was important in life. Then, she gets cancer and dies. Aiden spirals out of control until the band is forced to dismantle.
Now, he hides from the world and teaches women’s studies, the last place anyone would think to look for him.
Abby has been hurt by men, most importantly her father. So when some arrogant professor mistakenly chastises her, by text, for missing a meeting during office hours; she is affronted. She’s not a student!
Her perceived idea of this professor’s hubris makes him the target of her rant on her radio show. Since this rant gleans attention, the studio agrees that she has permission to use her platform to find and make an example of this professor.
Then these two are set up on a blind date with assumed names. This will definitely go well, right?
A Single Spark
The Spark Brothers, Book 1
By: Liwen Y. Ho
Narrated by: Lorana Hoopes
The Spark Brothers have won my heart. This first book in the series features Aiden and his journey to faith and love. Aiden is a former boy band rockstar now a professor of women’s studies and is in great demand. When he texts one of his students about missing a meeting, he accidentally sends the text to a popular radio dj, Abby, and she does her best to find who he is. Now both their lives are turned upside down! What will come out it? Will Aiden find his lost faith and be able to love again? Will Abby realize her plight and find a way to happiness? This series is off to a fabulous start. The characters are engaging and easy to like. I love the intricacies Liwen Y Ho has woven into this one, with the brothers and Abby’s friends. And also the gift of time to help those in need. It’s a fabulous listen. Low angst, heart wrenching and heart warming, you will find all the feels and come out happy.
Lorana Hoopes does a fantastic narration of this story. Each character it’s own voice, easy to distinguish and enjoy. Hoopes is a great storyteller and she brings this easily to life.

Ten years ago, Aiden Spark lost the love of his life. Now this male professor is hiding out. Abby Dearan would “need a lifetime to learn how to check her snarly attitude.” This book is full of fun, quirky, fan-girl moments. I enjoyed following all the antics of the characters. Cute moments and plot twists kept things moving along. I recommend this clean, Christian romance.
A Single Spark by Liwen Y. Ho
My rating is 4.5 Stars
A Single Spark is a great start to this series about the Spark brothers. Author Liwen Ho blends faith and romance in this story of overcoming grief and learning to trust.
Sparks fly as Abby and Aiden first encounter each other, but not in a good way. She represents the things that cause him pain and manages to push his buttons. When they go out on a blind date, things seem to go so well until Aiden realizes who Abby is and without thinking, flees and leaves her holding the check.
The story flows very naturally as it introduces the various Spark brothers and the important people in their lives as it sets the stage for the other books that are to come. I think I already have a favorite brother, Colin. I also really liked Abby’s friend Danica and the great spiritual advice she shared with Abby.
Abby needed to learn some important lessons about controlling her tongue and not allowing the past actions of those who hurt her affect the way she treats the people in her life now. She needed to work through many insecurities.
The story is long enough to be complete and short enough to be a quick and satisfying read when you only have a few hours to spare.

Faith Filled Romance After Heart Break
This wonderful story looks to be the beginning of a top-drawer series. The story is warm, faith-filled and clean. While it is a faith – filled story, I never felt smothered by it. The plot is excellent! This story introduces 5 brothers and assorted women who will likely have their own stories told later in the series. I am excited to read more of this series! I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.
