Loved this story and the series as a whole! Probably my favorite from this author and definitely a must read. Love the Hero of the book, he’s the perfect gruff and tough man.
I really loved this series from Addison Caine. It shows how great of a writer she is. I wish this would have been one novel though instead of two separate ones. I had to go back and reread a trick of light especially where we left off – it had been quite a while since I read the first part. The being said I felt like this one went a lot faster than the other book. It was like they were written in totally different gears. I guess there’s no need for all the build up of the first part but to me, it didn’t seem as fluid as it could have been. Still thoroughly enjoyed reading!
A Shot in the Dark is the second part of the A Trick of Light duet. As an avid Addison Cain follower, this duet was a wonderful surprise. The main character, Charlotte is a fast talking, take no sass, kick-a type of woman. While there are ups and downs between Charlotte and Matthew the love, acceptance, and compromise between both makes a wonderful read. I would highly recommend this duet.
Charlie and Matthew…sigh…I really enjoyed A Shot in the Dark, part two of the Trick of the Light duet. This duet is a nice change of pace for Addison Cain. I know she is the queen of the darkest of dark romance but everyone has a soft side and I like Ms. Cain’s soft side.
This book picks up right where book one left off. There are many twists in this last part but you will fall deeper and deeper in love with Charlie and Matthew. They really are a sweet couple to root for. This is not a forced and violent love like Claire and Shepard or some of Ms. Cain’s other characters in her other darker books. This is a sweet true love story that will have you thinking, “Am I really reading an Addison Cain book?” but in a good way.
This is a really good book with great characters, engaging plot with action and it is a well written historical romance (a favorite genre of mine).
As one of the few “softer” romances that Ms. Cain has graced the internet with, the conclusion to the Trick of the Light duet gave all that it promised from the beginning. There was action, mayhem, and in the end, there was a love that saw through all the bluster and bluff. I enjoyed every minute steeped in Prohibition and especially Chicago, but my one contention is that the ending felt very rushed. Given all the detail throughout both books, I was a little disappointed by how quickly and abruptly everything was wrapped up. Things edged a little into the cliche territory for my liking, but it was still very well written. That might very well be a personal thing, so if you’re on the fence, go ahead and give it a go.
Love this book. This is a great second book, it continues with a great story with great characters. I love the twists and action in this book. I didn’t want to put it down. This is a must read series. Has a perfect ending.
I received a free ARC copy of this book and I am giving an honest review.
This was the perfect conclusion after A Trick of the Light. I absolutely loved Charlie (Charlotte) and Matthews story. This was a gripping read that I couldn’t put down. I absolutely recommend reading this book after A Trick of the Light.
