SOON TO BE A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES
Are you made fainthearted by death? Does fire unnerve you? Is a villain something that might crop up in future nightmares of yours? Are you thrilled by nefarious plots? Is cold porridge upsetting to you? Vicious threats? Hooks? Uncomfortable clothing?
It is likely that your answers will reveal A Series of Unfortunate Events to be ill-suited for your personal … for your personal use. A librarian, bookseller, or acquaintance should be able to suggest books more appropriate for your fragile temperament. But to the rarest of readers we say, “Proceed, but cautiously.”

Love the prose, the tongue-in-cheek way he stops to define any big words, and the way he translates baby-talk into complex sentences… so dry and witty!
I did, however, stop reading as soon as the author gave the disclaimer that the story will not end happy and if you want a happy ending, stop now. (I like happy endings.) Some of the subject matter I thought was a little intense for a children’s book… implied/threatened pedophilia for instance… but if you could overlook that, it was very entertaining.
Technically a children’s book series but I’ve read them all and each one is a terrific rollicking tale!
Hey y’all!
If you like twists and tragedies then this book is just for you. Starring Resourceful Violet, Book reading Clause, and the adorable baby (But has strong bite) , Sunny. Follow them on a journey that is tragic yet entertaining book.
This was (as it says in the first chapter) a depressing book. But it is written in a lighthearted way that, amazingly, doesn’t diminish what the children go through, but shows the stark reality of their misfortunes. I read this as a child, and I must admit that I forgot most of what happened in this book. But I am glad I picked it up again.
The Baudelaire orphans are an interesting set of main characters. They are resourceful and intelligent and try to look on the positive side, even when there is very little positive showing. Just as the children are endearing, Count Olaf and his troupe are repulsive. They represent evil very clearly, and even their descriptions and attitudes towards the children conjure up the worst of feelings.
The characters are well-written, and the story is enjoyable, despite the near depressing things that happen within the pages. If you want to read a good adventure with a variety of characters, you will enjoy this introduction into what is aptly named ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events.’ Settle in for the ride of a lifetime, and bring your friends for support.
Series of unfortunate events. You should stop reading this if you want to hear about orphans living happily ever after. The Baudelaires life was perfect unti there parents died in a fire that destroyed everything. Then they went to live with a relative they have never met and he tries to get his hands on the Baudelaires fortune that can only be used when the oldest comes of age. What will happen?

Amazing book series and author.
This by far is the best series I have ever read. I have read all 13 books and I want to read them again. They are suspenseful, entertaining and the best books ever. And if I had to pick a series to read for the rest of my life it would be this one.
This book isn’t like a happily ever after book. This book is full of tragic events. And if you like tragic events, this series is for you. And if you want to know what’s next in the book, then you have to turn the page of the book.
This series is one that I have always known about yet never read. I have watched the movie and the first season of the Netflix show but never read them. I was surprised at how well the show did with recreating this series. I was expecting a lot of differences but it stays pretty true to the story. Tim Curry does an amazing job narrating the story and I think he is the perfect narrator for this depressing tale. The only thing I didn’t love about this was all the definition for words, but it makes sense for the reading level.
Overall, this was as unfortunate as I thought it would be and probably should have picked a different time to read it. I don’t really need any more depressing things in my life right now but at the same time I want to continue listening to the series. We will see if I actually continue the series.
i rellay love this book
This book is wonderful! The series gets better as it goes on. Definitely better than the Netflix series
Since I’ve just finished the Netflix series based on the books, I thought to review the book that started it all.
I love and there is also a series on Netflix you should watch if you haven’t!!
I loved this book the plot twist make it even better you always think it’s over but it isn’t they make you want to keep reading on and on
all ages should read
This is one of my favorite book series due to the twists and turns and the imagination needed to be in the story and not get lost! It might actually happen though lol.
(3.5 / 5)
When the Baudelaire children are orphaned and sent to live with a very odd relative they’ve never heard of, their misfortune is only beginning. Their new guardian, Count Olaf, has designs on the fortune their parents left behind, and will stop at nothing to get his hands on it.
I’ve never read any of these books, nor have I seen any of the adaptations. It always seemed a little dark and strange for my tastes. And I would have continued in ignorance without any qualms had I not discovered that Tim Curry narrated the audiobooks for the series. I love Tim Curry, and I especially love his voice. And yes, he brought my rating up an entire star all by himself. Because overall, the book was only okay, maybe even less than okay. I wasn’t even entirely sure what genre (other than children’s fiction) to put this in, because it seems like it’s supposed to be funny, but I didn’t find it all that humorous. And I guess there’s supposed to be a mystery, and I was actually looking forward to seeing what clever way the kids got out of Count Olaf’s snare, only for it to be a really simple, boring solution. Really, it was a little dark for children’s fiction, and Count Olaf’s and his friends were ridiculously and unnecessarily over-the-top mean.
I did like the way the kids stuck together and didn’t give up when things were bleak. I didn’t even mind the way the narrator inserted definitions for some possibly difficult words for kids, though to be honest, I don’t know that it wouldn’t have annoyed me if it wasn’t Tim Curry giving me those definitions. I’ve seen some reviews that say it gets better after the first book, so for Tim Curry’s sake, I’ll keep going for now.
it good
I recommend all the books of this series. It’s the best!
