Psychologist Grace Callahan suspected her client Stephen Shaw might be suffering from paranoia … but she reconsiders after a masked man breaks into her house looking for the key Shaw supposedly gave her.
It’s Detective Nathaniel Quinn’s first day back on the job when he’s assigned a suicide case that turns out to be murder. The victim is Stephen Shaw, and Grace’s business card is in Shaw’s pocket. It turns out that Nate used to be friends with Grace and her ex-husband.
Shaw worked in computer security and was also contracted to the FBI … or was he? A cryptic telephone message leads Grace and Nate on a chase to find the killer before the killer finds her.
A Secret to Die for is Christian romantic suspense at its best. The suspense starts on page one and doesn’t let up, while the the romantic thread takes a little longer to get going (which is appropriate. I’m always suspect of the relationships that begin in a high-stress situation, because I’m not convinced they’ll last). The Christian element is an underlying theme that gets more and more pronounced as the story progresses.
Overall, A Secret to Die for is another great romantic suspense novel from Lisa Harris. Recommended for fans of Irene Hannon and Diann Mills.
As an aside, I’m seeing a lot of suspense titles with these pink/purple covers with white text, and I love the effect!

The plot of this book is unique. It’s always interesting when the main character knows she has a vital part in saving the world but has no idea what that part may be. She continually finds herself in bad, life threatening situations. The characters were well developed and the plot moved along quite nicely. It was a bit preachy near the end. But the content was sound. It was refreshing to read a book with little to no typos or errors.
“Because God knows that sometimes, after you put the pieces back together, you end up with something stronger and even more beautiful than before.” –A Secret to Die For
If you’re looking for a book with the perfect blend of suspense, mystery, romance, and faith, grab A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris. From the first page, this story drew me in, and it kept me turning pages to the end. It is a well-written story with great pacing. The action starts quickly and keeps going with several twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The main characters, Grace and Nate, are both broken and hurting, but they are very realistic and engaging, and I love the way they step right up to solve the mystery. There is a faith element running through the story, but it blends well with the story and isn’t obtrusive.I would recommend this book to those who enjoy well-written romantic suspense. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the author/Revell. All opinions are my own.
Suspense, intrigue, fast paced action, gripping plot. If you read this at night be prepared to lose sleep – you won’t want to put his down.
Grace becomes the target when her client dies. Someone thinks he passed something incriminating to her. Enter Dectective Nate Quinn. Nate has recently returned to work due to an injury and PTSD.
Lisa Harris writes suburb romantic suspense and I love her style of writing. She always captures my attention in the first couple of pages and doesn’t let go. I find myself staying up late to finish one of her books. I received this book from the author and was asked to leave an honest review. Lisa Harris is one of my favorite authors and has been for several years. You will love her Christian Romantic Suspense. All opinions are my own and no one told me what to leave. Hope you love this book as much as I did.
Grace is a psychologist whose client was found murdered. She runs into an old college friend, Detective Nate, when he is assigned the murder case. Grace never thought she’d never be able to give her heart to another after losing her husband to divorce when he was unable to deal with the death of their young daughter.
As the story unfolds, Grace realizes her dead client wasn’t as paranoid as she’d thought. While he thought he was working, secretly, for the FBI, he discovered he was, instead, working for some bad people. As in, very bad people. People who want to take down the country’s power grid.
Unfortunately, for Grace, these bad people believe her client gave her vital information they need to complete their quest. Grace has no idea what it is they want or believe her to have. But, they want it badly enough to kill for it.
Good story, but I did have a difficult time with the police’s incompetence. After knowing these people had already murdered at least one person, Nate takes Grace, alone, to the bank to retrieve the contents of her deceased client’s safety deposit box. And, that wasn’t the only blunder on their part. Those things just made the story a little unbelievable. But, overlooking that, it was a good story.

This is only the second book that I’ve read by Lisa Harris but she is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. The heart-pounding action in “A Secret To Die For” begins immediately and it doesn’t let up. The murder of a computer security specialist and his suspected connection to a possible cyberterrorist attack on the United States powergrid creates a story filled with adventure, intrigue and danger. Psychologist Grace Callahan and police detective Nate Quinn are old college friends who find themselves caught up in the race to prevent computer hackers from destroying life as we know it and they soon realize that their college friendship could possibly turn into something deeper if they can only overcome the extreme hurts that they have endured in the past. Three years ago Grace lost her young daughter to cancer and her marriage ended in divorce and Nate is still suffering from PTSD due to witnessing a bombing that recently took the lives of his police partner and many other innocent victims. Grace has found strength in her faith in God but we see Nate floundering in his. As his feelings for Grace deepen we watch his spiritual struggle during his efforts to protect her. In one moving excerpt, as he rushs to find Grace alive, Nate begins to pray.
‘God, I can’t go through this again. Please.’ He’d shoved God into a box. Used him when he needed him or wanted something. And now that he needed him, he was ready to bargain, or beg, or whatever it took to get what he wanted. Except that wasn’t how things worked. Not in this life. He knew that. Prayers went unanswered. People died.”
This book is filled with intense action and suspense from the very first page and I found myself wondering if the author could sustain her momentum throughout the entire story. The answer is a definite yes; the mystery and suspense remain to the end! There are also two very believable characters who are struggling to overcome deep personal suffering as they turn to each other and attempt to completely rely on their faith in God. I truly enjoyed “A Secret to Die For” and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian romantic suspense fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher but my review is voluntary and these are my honest opinions.
Another fast-paced thrilling journey from Lisa Harris! The action and suspense start from page one and don’t stop until the very end of the book. Whew! The numerous twists and turns in the plot definitely had me guessing constantly who the bad guy may be….
The book is well-written with an intriguing plot and premise, the style of writing is fluid and easy to read, the suspense is intense, and the characters are delightful.
Grace and Nate were friends back in college who have lost touch for the last decade or so. Both have emotional and psychological trauma from their pasts and have struggles trying to overcome fear, guilt, and hopelessness. Grace is a deeply feeling, vulnerable yet resourceful and brave psychologist who gets sucked into Nate’s world when one of her clients becomes a murder victim. Nate is a homicide detective, freshly released for return to duty after a bombing that killed his partner and colleagues. Nate is thorough, meticulous, protective, loyal, and tender-hearted yet tries to wall up his heart. When the two reconnect because of a homicide case, they become involved in trying to stop a nefarious scheme much bigger than they had thought but also in laying down their past fears and anxieties to let themselves fall in love.
If you love romantic suspense, this book is for you. You won’t be able to put it down!
I was given a copy of the book by the author and Baker Publishing Group and was under no obligation to post a review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Once I turned the first page I was gone, be ready for a fast-paced action packed read. You will never see most of what happens coming, and yet it is one of those being at the right place at the right time happenings.
The author does a wonderful job of keeping your attention, from beginning to end, and the title sure pulled me in, and you will quickly know how the title applies, and when you learn what is happening it could be so true.
There is a bit of sweet romance, not knowing what you’re looking for, and maybe an end to life as we know it, yes this is just a few of the happenings in this book.
I received this book through Revell Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.
“A sharp clatter jerked Grace Callahan out of the novel she was reading. She dropped the paperback onto the empty side of the queen-sized bed, then sat up, trying to determine if the noise had come from inside the house, or outside. More than likely it was her neighbor’s dog again, knocking something over. Or maybe she’d simply imagined it.
She glanced at the book’s ominous cover. Next time she should stick to reading something less…intense when trying to go to sleep.”
Guess what I was doing when I started this book? Yeah, I knew as soon as I read this opening I was in for an intense ride and sleepless night. You would think by now, I’d learn not to start a suspense novel before bedtime! But in my defense, I couldn’t wait to dive into this promising thriller by a new-to-me author. Though I know Lisa Harris has penned multiple books over her writing career, I haven’t had the chance to read anything by her until now. What a ride this book was! I’ll be adding all of her other novels to my very massive must-read list.
Both Grace and Nate have had their share of grief they are still dealing with. As a psychologist, Grace has all the tools to combat the negative feelings that often sneak up on her. While she’s dealt with most of it, the murder of her client brings them sharply back to focus. Nate just recently returned to duty after an explosion takes out his partner and most of his team. Having survivor’s guilt threatens to bury him in a pile of remorse. Together they not only need to outrun the killers but help each other emotionally & spiritually.
I love how the suspense takes precedence over the romance, but you can also feel it simmering under the surface. This is definitely an adrenaline rush as they race to stop a national threat all while trying to figure out what clues Grace’s client left her. Information that in the wrong hands can have disastrous results! I also love how Grace clings to her faith in spite of the danger and how she leads Nate back to his. It’s refreshing to read a book that not only keeps you on your toes but feeds your spirit too!
Intense, heart-pumping, adrenaline laced, and keeps you turning pages late into the night are just some of the adjectives I’d use to describe this novel. Lisa Harris is now on my list of automatic read authors! If you love stories like this, I highly recommend “A Secret to Die For”.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review.*
From the very first word on the very first page I was held in the gripping tale of break-ins, murder, and computer hackers. The story was fast paced and a real late into the night, page turner. I have yet to be disappointed in a story by author Lisa Harris.
The two main characters, psychologist Grace and detective Nate, each had traumas of their own from the past that had “crippled” them. Grace unwittingly got drawn into this national crime because of a client of hers. Danger lurked almost around every corner and Nate had sworn to try his best to protect her. He couldn’t let what happened in the past happen again.
National security and the fate of the people living in the U.S. are in a precarious position. The “Bad Guys” are always just a step ahead. What will happen if they succeed in spite of the effects of the police, detectives and the FBI?
If you enjoy suspense of the most gripping kind along with excitement and a little romance thrown in for good measure, don’t miss this one!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the author but was not required to write a review.
I’m a fan of Lisa Harris! She consistently delivers non-stop action, a bit of romance, and real (often hurting) characters in each of her stories. A Secret to Die For is no exception.
Grace Callahan is finding her footing again after a tragedy and the subsequent fallout. Nick Quinn is back at work after surviving a hotel bombing in Dallas. When circumstances bring these two college friends together again, they race to find answers and thwart a catastrophe.
While the suspense was terrific in this book and kept the story moving at a fast clip, it was Grace’s and Nick’s personal stories that made this story for me. Grace’s loss is soul-deep and on a day that promises to be a difficult one, she’s thrown into an even worse nightmare. Nick’s wounds are deep too. As these two race to find save lives, can they find their footing together?

A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris is a stand-alone Christian suspense novel. When the patient of Psychologist Grace Callahan is found murdered she realizes he wasn’t paranoid after all. Now the bad guys think before he died that he left her with the information they need to finish their catastrophic plans and they’ll stop at nothing to get what they want. Again, Ms. Harris doesn’t disappoint readers with her edge- of-your-seat, heart-in-your-throat roller coaster ride of suspense. From the first sentence to the last you will hold your breath, waiting to see what happens next. A great story for anyone who loves suspense novels.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Like many other readers, I love a good romantic suspense but I definitely prefer that all the suspense stay between the covers of a book and does not intrude upon my personal life. I cannot imagine how I would even begin to deal with the scenarios encountered by Grace Callahan, heroine of A Secret to Die For. Yes, I am definitely a big chicken and intend to stay one.
When one of her clients is murdered on the same night that her home is invaded by an armed stranger, Grace’s life becomes a living nightmare. Someone believes she has information given her by the client and will stop at nothing to get it. With the help of Detective Nate Quinn, an old friend, Grace just manages to stay alive and is determined to help stop some dangerous men and possibly save millions.
A Secret to Die For is nearly nonstop action and suspense with plenty of mystery and romance to really keep it interesting. Plot twists abound and surprises are in store for the reader. This book was definitely a page turner and I finished it in record time. There just does not seem to be a good stopping place!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to others who love Christian romantic suspense.

What do you do when you hear a noise in the middle of the night and realize that someone is in your house? You call 911 and crawl out the bedroom window. This starts an action packed suspense thriller that could be pulled from today’s headlines. Grace is a psychologist that gets a cryptic message on her phone right before her client Stephen is murdered. She gets pulled into trying to help the police and FBI to figure out the message he left her while staying alive. You are racing against the clock to stop a cyber attack that could cripple the United States. It is a story of evil, murder and greed. Lots of action, twists and turns. Great story, couldn’t put it down.
I was hooked on this story from the very first page. Psychologist Grace Callahan is home alone when a man breaks in to her house. She is able to call 911 and escape through a window. The man follows her and asks her for the “key.” She does not know what he is talking about and manages to get away. On the other side of town, a man’s body is found at an amusement park and Detective Nate Quinn has been called to the scene. The death looks like a suicide, but there are a few inconsistencies. They find Grace Callahan’s card on the body. Years ago, Nate knew someone named Grace, but surely this can’t be the same Grace. Nate and his partner, Detective Paige Morgan, arrive at Grace’s home not knowing about the earlier break in. Once Nate sees Grace, he realizes she is the same Grace that he knew in college. Their past history becomes a part of the story as they work together to find out who attacked her and who killed the man at the park. The story becomes more involved as they soon realize that there is more at stake here than murder. I enjoy a strong female lead character in a book and Grace is that character. She is able to take care of herself even when faced with danger. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
A SECRET TO DIE FOR. NG
Sept 18. Lisa Harris
Blue will always be there for Mina, having spent a decade as a marine, when his instinct tells him she is in danger he listens. Daughter of a wealthy father, she has gone under a different name, and lives a quiet one. Till she puts herself in danger, then Red.Stone Security is put in place to protect her. The story is intense, intense between her and Blue, a mystery, and a great story. Part of a series, but can be read alone. Given Arc by Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
This thriller will keep you turning pages and, maybe, checking that your doors are locked! Grace Callahan, a psychologist, is an excellent female protagonist! A client leaves vital information hidden in Grace’s office shortly before he is murdered! Grace’s old friend from college days, Detective Nate Quinn, responds to the 911 call when her home is broken into. Nate is determined to protect Grace but she is equally determined to help find the murderer and a patch to protect the power grid! Lisa Harris has written another action packed thriller! If you like suspense, you will love A Secret to Die For! I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Lisa Harris has written a book that is a little scary if you think about it. If this story line was to be true and it happened we would be in quite a pickle. What if someone had the hacking skills to take down the computer grid? No banking, electricity, water, food. It would be chaos for sure. This romantic suspense explores this and it is up to our heroine and hero to help stop it. The problem? She doesn’t know the secret that her dead patient left her.
I enjoyed this story very much with the inspirational message and the light romance. I felt it was a really good read.
*I was given a copy of this book by the author and publisher and was under no obligation to leave a review
This is my honest opinion.
Lisa Harris hits it out of the park with her new romantic suspense book about terrorists who are threatening the United States as well as Grace Callahan and her old college friend Nate Quinn. Grace has already suffered a tremendous loss in her life and has become a counselor. Nate is a police officer and is suffering from PTSD, Although Nate is not ready for a relationship, he is determined to keep Grace safe at all costs. The interaction between Grace and Nate was realistic and written with empathy. The reader is quickly captured by the story because there is a murder and threat of terrorism at the beginning of the book, and you don’t find out what is really going on until almost the last chapter. Ms. Harris does a fantastic job of weaving a web of deceit so that the reader is drawn into the web and is working hard to figure everything out. I was totally delighted to be able to review this book because it is a clean read: no foul language or steamy sex scenes, and yet the book was absolutely enthralling. Readers of Christian fiction will thoroughly enjoy this thriller, wanting to know how the characters are able to be victorious.
