Fun to read.
Poor Chrystobel, her sister, and her brother are driven from their ancestral home days before Christmas by the Roundheads. On their way to the family castle in Wales, they stop at the home of Viscount Joseph, a horticulturalist who promised to marry his neighbor to save her from her cousin, the Justice of the Peace who tried to rape her. It is love at first sight for Chrystobel who has never even been kissed! She talks their hosts into illegally celebrating Christmas while she persuades her brother to pursue his interest in the Viscount’s neighbor. Incredibly, there is a happy ending for all.
Fun, cute story.
Love Lauren Royal’s books. This was reread for me. Read first years ago as paperback. Has not lost any of its charm.
There is a certain few authors you can always depend on. Lauren Royal is one.
Enjoyed daring Christobel in a time when women did not have use their ingenuity or have fun in the era this was written.
Such a nice read, but this author always gives entertainment.
It was lovely to get the back story on “Chrysanthemum” and the way she snares Joseph, and how he came to be nearly deaf; you will better understand the tales of their daughters to come in subsequent books.
Then there’s Creath. Yes, that is someone’s name. Why? I stumbled in my reading every time she enters the plot, and it is not infrequently. I never understood the need to name a character that interrupts your mind’s reading, almost like a glottal stop???
I love the books by this author.
I have read the daughters’ stories . So, it was fun to read the parents’ story.
Good read
Good quick read. Enjoy this author
Delightful, fun story! I admit it was hard to believe four people would fall in love in a matter of days but once you let it go and just accept it, the story is sweet and funny.
Love this family. It was great finding the parents story. Yeah Lauren!
This was a fun novella to read and I’d like to think I would have been like Chrystabel and have a secret Christmas celebration even though it was illegal at that time! I can’t even imagine NOT being able to celebrate Christmas!!! It’s a good thing I do believe in love at first sight, otherwise having two couples fall in love within 3 days would seem to be a bit far fetched….but this author makes it work and it makes for a delightful story.
enjoyed this book by one of my favourite writers **Lauren Royal
It was a fun read.
A wonderful prequel to the series
This is a wonderfully written prequel to an amazing series. The plot is brilliantly conceived, and the characters beautifully portrayed, with the determination to overcome their obstacles. This book is suitable for anybody who loves steamy historical romances, that has a bit of suspense.
Fun read
