London 1558. An orphan from a far-off land is renamed “Noah Ames,” and given every advantage the English Crown can bestow.
London 1592. Now an experienced barrister, Noah witnesses what appears to be a botched robbery outside the Rose Theater, a crime he soon suspects to be part of a plot against Queen Elizabeth herself. Steadfast in his loyalty to the Queen, Noah must use every bit of his … of his knowledge and skill to lure her most disloyal subject onto the only battlefield where Noah has the advantage … a court of law – though in doing so he risks public exposure of his darkest secret, a secret so shocking that its revelation could cost him everything: the love of the only woman who can offer him happiness, his livelihood … even his life.

Really enjoyable book with a great plot and well-developed characters. Expect the unexpected – historical fiction from an unusual viewpoint!
Good historical fiction novel set in Elizabethan times.
good mystery. Loved the medieval setting. Will be reading more in this series.
Noah was blessed by a queen and by the family who raised him, but he eventually had to hide his real identity because he was Jewish. This book was historically accurate and very informative about so much that was true in England during this particular time period. The judicial system was fairly presented without bias, it seems. And the class system was shown for what it did to non-royalty and their standing in society. The young widow’s fortunes made me believe that every woman is capable of handling her own affairs. Excellent book.
An excellent book to read and enjoy, no doubt a page-turner.
Well written, page turner
I’m a sucker for historical fiction. I can’t wait to read the sequels.
This book was original in its take on Jewish characters in Elizabethan England. But as I’ve commented in other reviews, this one imposed a very modern worldview on the characters of the 1500’s. That said, the story was mostly well told, and enjoyably, the romance was for the most part without overt sexuality. I enjoyed the first one enough to purchase the second one.
Fantastic books
I love period pieces and the relationships among the classes.
This book could not hold my interest. Characters not believable.
Great setting! Likable charaacters
I enjoyed this fictional history tale. It was dpot on in depicting the sixteenth century politics and intrigue.
I found the book very interesting. The story managed to convey a tremendous amount of information about life at the time of Elizabeth I. It referred to historical incidents and wove them into the story. I can’t wait to read the next chapter in this story.
Brilliant and easy to read. Takes you into the mind of a jewish lawyer in the age of Elizabeth I (while he has to keep his jewishness hidden). I loved it!
An intriguing twist On what might have been Combined with a fairly good whodunit mystery.
very boring; could not engage with any character
good read
Waiting for the next episode.
quite interesting, historical novels are often more interesting and easier reading than direct history. Supplies a story rather than straight factual information and provides the idea of the period and events.
