Very difficult to follow -maybe it was my mind set at the time – but I found it difficult to enjoy. I finally gave up. I just could not keep the characters straight.
To be fair, this is probably a good book and indicative of the 1500s. I like historical fiction, but not back to the 16th century.
Boring-didn’t read
Just not my cup of tea. Laborious reading with cumberson detail bordering on sheer boredom.
Good writing. Plot is a little slow but characters are well developed.
Great historical novel of the middle 1500s. Exciting and could not put the book down. Look forward to reading the sequel
A good book around the time Shakespeare was there. It was just not my forte!
Excellent historical mystery set in Elizabethan times, people with actual characters from history as well as the author’s fictional heroes and friends.
This is not my usual historical era but ithoroughky enjoyed the historical setting, the depiction of actual historical figures and the integration of the fictional characters. The next in the series is calling to me!
I tried to like this. I enjoy reading period novels and historical fiction, so this should have been a natural. But, unfortunately, I felt like I was slogging through too many words. Sentences were run-on, wordy and poorly designed. It was frequently difficult to know who was speaking, or who they were speaking about. I gave it beyond 50% of the book – and when I just could not muster the energy any longer, I put it aside.
An early English lawyer/ court adventure. Good historical mystery.
I enjoy period books so this was a no-brainer to pick up. At times, the writing made the flow of the narrative a bit boring, but all-in-all, it was a decent read.
Interesting historical novel, but at times mired with too much detail. If you’re interested in British law practices of the 1500’s, this is the novel for you.
A great read of the historical Tudor era with some amazing characters.
