Ten years ago, in the middle of a natural disaster, Navy SEAL Greg Devon lost his heart to a young documentary film director, and when he found out she’d been put in charge of Base Camp, a reality television show, he jumped at the chance to participate. Now he’s in big trouble. If he doesn’t marry in forty days, the sustainable community he’s helping to build will be bulldozed. And Renata Ludlow … Renata Ludlow still barely knows he exists.
Renata was fresh out of film school, directing her first film in the Andes, when a mudslide destroyed her subjects’ village and she took on financial responsibility for a school full of girls. When billionaire Martin Fulsom made her an offer, she took it and exchanged her dream career for a steady paycheck. With two years to go before the last of her girls graduates, she’s got no choice but to keep Fulsom happy—even if it means joining the cast of Base Camp for forty days. She can’t marry Greg until she’s fulfilled her promise, though. Even if she’s beginning to realize he’s the man she’s always wanted.
With his deadline looming, Greg keeps gambling he can convince Renata to be his bride—and Renata keeps gambling on everything in sight, determined to pay what she owes.
Can Greg convince Renata to take a chance on him? Or will she push her luck too far and lose everything?

I felt that this was quite a pleasant read. Since the characters had met before, it was more believable for the story as a whole. There were a few times that I wanted to shake Renata to make her see sense that she didn’t have to have so much weight on her shoulders on her own, and I felt angry that she didn’t communicate to other people about a lot of things because then she wouldn’t have had so much to worry about.
Every Cora Seton book that I read, I get a strong sense of community. Not just in this series with Base Camp, but the area as a whole. The neighbors come together to help when they’re needed. I truly love having that feeling in a world that doesn’t always have that. I think others enjoy it too, otherwise I doubt we’d be wanting to read about a whole community coming together with a purpose.
A SEAL’S DESIRE
By Cora Seton
Another great book in the Chance Creek Series – A SEAL’S DESIRE by
Cora Seton. She has a way of writing that keeps you turning the pages for more.
Another Base Camp wedding down now it’s time to see who will be next to get married. Greg Devon drew the short straw so he now has 45 days to find a wife and get married or they will lose Base Camp. Greg already knows who he wants to marry, all he has to do is convince her – Renata the director for the Base Camp Reality Show.
Greg met Renata ten years ago in Peru after a natural disaster, but she doesn’t remember him. He has to get her to fall in love with him but she is to busy trying to save her job as director of the show. She is also trying to keep a promise she made ten years ago. She is too proud to ask for help and her time is running out.
There are twist and turns every time they turn around. Someone is trying to destroy the show. Things are starting to pile up against Base Camp.
Will Greg be able to convince Renata to trust him with her secret?
Who is trying to bring down Base Camp?
Cora Seton has a way to keep you on the edge of your seat. I love this series, I can’t wait for the next book. Thank you Cora for writing such a great series.
Wow oh wow!
Before I start if you a new to this series please read the books in order
Greg and Renata’s story – boy was I not expecting it to go like this – this book totally turned my view of Renata on its head from the ballsy hard director into – well I’ll let you read and discover for yourself.
Let’s just say several secrets come to light and babies – loads of babies!
That’s before we get to the wedding at the end of the book, well there was a curve-ball there too – never saw that one one coming.
Brilliant book with loads of twists and turns, well done Ms Seton – sorry but I can’t wait for the next one now!
Greg and Renata did a dance around each other for so long, him realizing he’s always had feelings for her and her not recognizing what she had standing right in front of her. Watching a story unfold that began 10 years earlier was such a pleasure. There were moments I wanted to shake each of them (especially her) and tell them that they were doing all of this the hard way. And that plot twist was superb! Bravo, Ms Seton. I did not see that coming.
I love watching each of these SEALs discover that through their wish to bring to light how sustainable living can change the world not only find their jobs fulfilling but find the women they never knew they might need to accomplish their goals. The stories are sweet, and the author has such a way of taking us to that small town of Chance Creek.
Book #8 of SEALs of Chance Creek and Cora has hit another grand slam!
Who would have thought there was a past connection between Greg Devon and Renata Ludlow.
Renata didn’t give Greg a second look back in Peru but he had never forgotten her and when he found out she was in charge of filming a reality show called Base Camp he jumped at the chance to join that group.
Renata Ludlow still had ties to the disaster in Peru where she and Greg first met but it wasn’t him, it was however the young girls that arrived back home from a school to find their entire village had been wiped out and they were left with no families. Renata had seen to it that those 21 girls still had their chance at an education. She had 3 left then she could relax and start putting away money for her future.
It’s Greg’s turn to take a bride and when Renata asked him if he had someone in mind his answer was “Yes, and you’d be surprised who she is”
Greg had his work cut out for him and only 40 days to get the deed done. Renata was afraid to take the leap of faith but Greg had enough faith for both of them.
I think this was my favorite book of all. Grab yourself a copy and see if you don’t agree.
As the TV Reality Show Base Camp continues, it is Greg Devon’s time in the barrel since he pulled the short stick. The big thing is we find out that he met Renata, the difficult director, years ago when she was fresh out of film school. He fell for her back then, but she doesn’t remember him from that terrible day that changed the course of both of their lives. Revelations come fast and furious in the quickly moving story of Greg trying to win Renata over while she works to keep her job from the Clem, slimy director that Fulsom brought in to spice up the show. I love that all the characters from this series as well as from other Chance Creek stories show up. LOVED IT!
With every new book in this series, we get more insight into the motivations and back stories of all the characters, not just the two on which each book focuses, and this book is no exception. The story this time of Greg and Renata – yes, the Base Camp show director – is a story of integrity and honor, and it’s an eye-opening view on the lengths people will go to to achieve their aims as well. It’s full of surprises – even for a Base Camp veteran like me – and, in my opinion, it’s the best in the series so far. There’s a fun intersection with the Halls too, and this really is a must-read for all Cora Seton fans. I’ve already re-read it.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
A Seals Desire is book 8 in the Seals of Chance Creek series. As always Cora Seton once again hits it out of the ballpark, for me this was one of my favorites in the series. Renata is such a strong woman, and determined to meet the obligation that she made many years ago even at the expense of her own happiness. All of the extended characters feel almost like family we have been reading about them for so long. Things may not always be as they seem, I most definitely would recommend this books to my friends.
Oh my! I have only found a handful of authors that I absolutely love to read their work, that I wait patiently for the next book, and crave for more from, and Cora Seton is certainly one of those few. I have read almost every one of her books based in Chance Creek, from every separate series, even though they connect together in one form or another, and I don’t think I will ever get enough of them. Her ability to bring her characters to life and make you feel like you live among them, is incredible. Her stories always bring a certain level of intensity and depth to the table, keeping you on edge and craving more.
In this episode, we finally get to Greg, and his hidden connection to Renata, the infamous director. Will they manage to overcome their own personal demons in order to find their own place together at Base Camp? Or will the obstacles prove to be too many and too much?
An awesome read you won’t want to miss.
I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
It’s always great seeing old friends back in Chance Creek.
Another 40 days have passed and another marriage is on the horizon. Greg, and lo and behold its Renata, the director of Base Camp!
The mystery and hijinks have escalated and Clem, the obnoxious director pushing Renata off the show, seems to be in the middle of the whole mess. The humor kind of jumps up at you when you least expect it.
Now there is only two SEALs left to find there happily Ever After! As always the story is fast and has some anguish and most important the strength of base camp shines threw.
An incredible addition to the seal’s of Chance Creek series, it was so wonderful to finally learn more about Renata Ludlow and what makes her such a driven woman.
With one issue after another it seems someone is still out to sabotage Base Camp, the sustainable community that began with 10 ex Navy SEAL’s and several women who want to make a difference in the world. Renata Ludlow has been director of the reality show filming the group that are on a strict time line for all 10 SEAL’s to be married and at least 3 wives must be expecting or delivered babies or they will lose the land and all they have accomplished so far. With seven of the men now happily married and living in their tiny homes and one baby on the way it is now Greg’s turn and he has just 45 days to find a bride. But Greg has always had his eye on their director, the woman many in their small community barely tolerate. And Greg has a past with the smart and ridged woman, one it seems she doesn’t even remember.
Renata fears her days as director are numbered when millionaire Martin Folsum brings in an assistant director that is willing to do anything at any cost to drive up viewership of their show. Renata knows it is now Greg’s turn to find a wife and although she has growing feelings for the man she has a secret she has kept from everyone that could keep her from following her heart. Then, one surprise after another only sets Renata more on edge, thinking about her own future and the sudden changes she realizes she wants in her life. But Renata’s secrets may drive a wedge between her and Greg before love has a chance. Will Renata spend all her time trying to pay an old debt at the detriment of her own happiness?
I received an ARC and voluntarily offer this review.
A SEAL’s Desire continues the story of Base Camp and it’s inhabitants. We got a sneak peek of it in the last book in the series so we knew Renata and Greg had let before. What we didn’t know is how profoundly the events around their first meeting affected Renata. Suddenly, she doesn’t seem like the hardened tv director we thought we knew.
I enjoyed the story and getting to know both of the characters better. Renata’s character in particular had a lot of depth. The story was fast-paced and exciting with just enough suspense and intrigue (and of course, romance). I also really enjoy the sneak peek at the end for the next book. Can’t wait for it.
I did receive an ARC but all opinions are my own.
I highly recommend A SEAL’s Desire!
