Retired spy Abigail Matheson has inherited the title of Marchioness of Buchman upon the death of her cousin. The title, which he’d inherited from her father, should never have been hers. But that annoyance is forgotten when The Raven, Abigail’s superior, introduces her to Sir Stirling James. They request her assistance on one final mission: find the stolen crown jewels of Scotland.Abigail accepts … Scotland.
Abigail accepts this unexpected opportunity in hopes of forgetting the young French spy she killed on her last assignment. When The Raven and Sir Stirling inform her that she will be working with Lord Reade, a rake of the first order, Abigail, who’s always worked alone, plans to ignore the partnership and complete this mission alone.
Lord Reade, brother to Robert Murdock, the Earl of Kinwall, has been given the opportunity to gamble with men who can afford to lose a lot of money. And a lot of money is exactly what Reade needs if he is to save his family’s ancestral home from creditors and prevent his brother’s family from being forced onto the streets. The catch: he must work with a beautiful spy to find the thief who stole the Honors of Scotland. Surely, he can ignore her long enough to salvage his family’s fortune. The string of suitors determined to be the next Marquess of Buchman prove too much a distraction, however, and Reade is forced to take matters into his own hands.

A spy, a rake, a mystery and a lot of suitors to interfere
First, we start with a female spy that has inherited a title all of her own, Abigail is now hanging up her spying hat to see to other obligations. For her last mission she is partnered with Lord Reade: younger son trying to rescue his older brother from debt and save the family home and a notorious rake.
Second, throw these two together to find the missing Crown Jewels of Scotland…mysterious, dangerous, sexy as hell.
Third: the line of suitors that are pursuing Abigail for her money and her title may jeopardize the mission and keep Reade and from each other.
All of this for a great Tarah Scott novel.

This is a fantastic historical romance. I love the characters and the plot. The addition of intrigue only makes this story more dynamic. The characters are stubborn and passionate. What isnt there to love??

This was a perfect quick read for a rainy afternoon! Imagine being a spy and searching a castle for the stolen Honors of Scotland, with a handsome rake at your side, complete with secret passageways, trysts and enamored suitors!!
Abigail Matheson, Marchioness of Buchman, has agreed to do one more job for The Raven and is paired up with Lord Reade, a known rake who makes his money playing cards. I loved their banter and wit with each other!! Action throughout, Abigail and Reade are forever finding themselves in humorous situations which only quick thinking saves them and which usually ends up them being caught in a lover’s embrace!!

Since she’s inherited her father’s title, Abigail Matheson is now the Marchioness of Buchman and must give up her career as a spy. When her former contact, The Raven, introduces her to Sir Stirling James and asks her to help with one last mission, Abigail agrees to help them find the stolen crown jewels of Scotland. She hopes the distraction of the new mission will help her get over the guilt she feels from killing a French spy on her last mission. When Stirling and the Raven introduce her to her partner, Lord Reade Murdock, a known rake, she plans to ignore him and work alone as she always has.
Lord Reade has been attempting to use his skills at the card games he hates to buy his brother out of debt with his winnings. He hopes to just ignore Abigail long enough to get through the mission and use the opportunity to bring more winnings to his brother’s creditors, but the long string of suitors trailing Abigail is enough to complicate matters.
The more time these two spend together, the more they each begin to realize they could have a real partner in the other, permanently.
This was a quick and steamy read and as long as you can look past issues with titles and forms of address it’s very enjoyable.
