From friends to lovers, forbidden passion sparks between a modern day woman and a medieval Highland warrior.Accustomed to watching over things for Clan MacLomain and their Viking ancestors, Julie had given up hope of traveling back in time for love like those before her. Until the day an old friend turned crush shows up on her doorstep in New Hampshire claiming he needs help in fourteenth … help in fourteenth century Scotland.
Having pledged to help his clan, Laird Tiernan MacLomain searches for his destined Broun in the twenty-first century. Yet he only wants the woman he’s secretly loved for years. So he breaks the rules and brings Julie back to the medieval period with him. She might lack the bloodline needed to harness the power of the Claddagh, but he won’t leave her behind.
Together, they embark on a whirlwind quest to protect King David II against Edward Balliol and his disenfranchised nobles, the ‘disinherited.’ They also face a dark threat nobody foresaw. Will Tiernan and Julie defeat it without the power of predestined love? Or will breaking the rules be their ultimate downfall and Scotland’s ruin? Find out in A Scot’s Pledge, an emotional and passionate journey into the turbulent onset of the Second War of Scottish Independence.

Thank you Totally Talented Promotions for introducing me to this author
Past meets present with this amazing book, two people cross time to find each other. Tiernan will do anything for Julie including breaking the rules. There’s amazing characters, time travel, romance, and even adventure. It sucks you in and keeps you on your toes and makes you feel like you are right there on this journey with them, I recommend this book.
I am awestruck over this magical tale. The twists and turns of Julie’s mystical journey from modern day New Hampshire to 14th century Scotland made for an exciting, page turning read. The characters and imagery are so well written the reader is taken on a breathless adventure. My only complaint is I haven’t read the previous works about the MacLomain and my tbr list just grew! I highly recommend for lovers of time travel with romance as a bonus.
I think I would have enjoyed this a lot better if I read previous series books. I was a little lost and felt like I was missing a chunk of information. I did look up Sky’s work and indeed there’s other books related. This seems to be a spin-off of sorts so I definitely recommend reading the others first. It’s written well and I liked the book minus confusion.
A Scot’s Pledge
The characters are great and the story takes you through many emotion’s my personal warning is be prepared to shed some tears before the end of this book
I had never read any of Sky Purington’s time travel books but I am thrilled that I got the chance to do that. Her characters feel so real, the story draws you in and won’t let you go until the last word on the last page. Even though I didn’t know about them before , It’s exciting that Julie and Tiernan get their chance for love.I’ll be looking for more of Sky Purlington’s books.
4 out of 5 stars
Julia has been helping out the Clan Maclomain through time and space find the women that they are destined to be with back in their time . When the man of her dreams comes to her and asks her to come back with him to help him save and protect young King David the II from Edward Bailioi. But will they survive and save the young king or will breaking the rules of predestined mates destroy all that they are trying to save .
Oh my goodness there are so many cool characters in this book . We have highlanders and man who doesn’t love a man in a kilt. We have a dragon guard and throw in some witches and druids and you have on heck of a story . The two main characters in this book are Julia and Tiernan . Julia is one feisty woman , she is in love with Tiernan but could never act on it because she thought she wasn’t destined to be his . But like you all know that with any good story rules are meant to be broken and broken they did .hehehehehehhe . Tiernan well he is a highlander with the Viking lineage behind him . He is kind of gruff but he is really sexy to.Trust me on this one ladies . You will fall in love with this bloke . He is part perfect gentleman and part sexy highlander with a brute force that will take your breath away .
This is the first book I have read from this author and I must say I got sucked in to the lore and the fantasy of the book . Everything from the meaning of the Claddagh ring to the Scottish thistle . Oh and don’t forget the sexy highlanders . The author did a very good job combining all the Scottish heritage and the folk lore in her story . I did feel though that it kind of dragged just a little at times but over all it was a great book to read . I read it in an evening and honestly couldn’t put it down . It honestly kind of gave me an outlander vibe with going through the stones and women finding the men they love back in the medieval tunes , which I love stories like that . So if you want a story full of love and destiny check out this book . I am on book two now and loving it .
The intensity and suspense of Julie and Tiernan’s story is palpable. As my first book in this family of books, I find I definitely want to read back as to how this time travel/true love match business began. A must read for lovers of medieval era and/or time travel.
Let me start off this review by saying, had I not looked through all of Sky Purington’s books after I finished this one, I would’ve given this review 2 maybe 3 stars. Honestly, not having read any other book by this author I was a bit lost at the start with the time travel, viking ancestors, and the MacLomain/Broun bond. However, going through and reading there was quite a bit that you pick up, but still would I say this is a standalone? I wouldn’t say so. BUT I do want to say that just from reading this story, it has made me curious about the previous ancestors books including the Vikings and I have added them to my never ending list…which might I add after adding those books seemed to double in size!!!
Now my actual rating for this book is based on the story of Julie and Tiernan. I enjoyed getting to read about the adventure Julie had to embark on with Tiernan to finally come into her ancestors powers. Learning she may not have been born a broun, but something even more unique and thought no longer around (at least according to Tiernan’s father).
Enemies are even more determined to claim what they believe is rightfully theirs and have now found a new way to try and eliminate the MacLomain line, even going so far as to try and influence the unattached broun’s just waiting for their part in the timeline.
Julie and Tiernan’s journey isn’t an easy one. They are embarking on a relationship that hasn’t been heard of and could very well change thing…maybe for the better or worst who knows? What is known is that there will be sacrifices made when each MacLomain and their broun embark on their journey.
In typical fashion this newest installment of the series is filled with twists and turns galore! However within these pages are a unique twist. For its NOT a Broun lass intended for Adlin’s son. I loved the new themes of magic in this book. Sworn to guard the son of Robert the Bruce we see magic from the original Adlin’s time through to current day take place. Weaving within it many souls from the past and present. It will probably make more sense as to who all the players are if you rad the previous books, but I wouldn’t say 100% necessary. Just be prepared to be whisked away to Scotland and beyond in a fog of magic, love and Destiny.
Julie finally gets her book!!! What a wonderful start for the new series, I’ve waited so long for Julie’s story! So worth the wait, I love Julie and Tiernan, perfect match!!!
Book one in The MacLomain Series: End of an Era series a well written story with a very good storyline the story flowed smoothly from page to page. This is Julie and Laird Tiernan MacLomain, who brings her back to his home in the past, they are not suppose to be together as she is not a Broun but could she be something else? There is suspense drama, danger, Lei lines, magic, and love. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow! Just wow! Talk about an amazing story and SO in-depth too. Julie and Tiernan were a fabulous couple even though they were not ‘meant to be’ in the traditional sense of the book. But meant to be in my heart they were! Add them with his family, King David II, etc, etc and you can see the beginning of this fabulous world Sky created. Occasionally I had to reread things a time or two to make sure I understood what had transpired. It was a fast-paced, no-nonsense, magical romance set largely in Medieval Scotland….how could I not love it?! So Sit down, get comfy and settle in for the ride of your life. In case you haven’t caught on yet, I HIGHLY recommend this book!

This was an awesome book that I really enjoyed. The story and characters grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading. I loved the characters and watching them grow together, they were well written and went well together. I found this book amazing with great word building making me feel apart of the story and watching it unfold in front of me. A definite must read for any fan and I can’t wait to read more from this author!!!

This is a continuation of the Maclomain Series featuring Tiernen, Milly and Adlin’s son and Guardian witch, Julie. I really liked Tiernen and Julie’s story because Ms. Purington’s stories never cease to bring a tear to my eye. There is an element of tragedy in it, or is there? With all the magic flying around, one is never sure but is always surprised at every turn. The Maclomains are a close family who defend their kin and country well and Julie is the protector of the guardians. Together both hers and their magic will set out to save young King David, their to the Scottish throne. It was a very exciting and romantic story that I couldn’t put down. I look forward to reading the others in the series.
The first thing I have to say about this story is that you really have to concentrate, otherwise you’ll be totally lost! It can become very complicated with all that goes on and I sometimes found myself having to go back and reread some parts to get back on track. This is my first time reading Sky Purington so maybe I just have to get use to her way of writing. I was very impressed, though, because it takes quite a bit of imagination to write such a story!!
Tiernan and Julie’s story is quite intense and just when you think you know what will happen, the author puts in a twist and you’re off and running again! You will find yourself cheering for this couple and wanting them to be together so much and there is even one part that I found myself bawling, not believing what was happening. It’s the end of an era….or is it?!
I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story of Tiernan and Julie has so many twists in the storyline, you will not want to put it down! I am sorry it is the “end of an era” but to what extent? I will not give it away. The only thing I will say is around the 80% mark for the story I was yelling “Noooooo!” And wanted to throw my kindle. Thankfully I didna.
Aye, this was an ARC and all I can say is … WOW! Excellent read!! Ye will never forget it, once you read it. Absolutely brilliant!!
