I enjoyed the overall story of Lily and Ewan. It seems these two had painful baggage from the past that kept them from communicating honestly with each other. The author Tammy Andresen did a really good job in the dialogue between Lily and Ewan. It was not hurried and she took her time to reveal they belonged together. A very sweet and charming romance.
A Scot to Keep is the third book in the Brides of Scotland series, which is based on the Morningstar sisters. The book was fast-paced, easy to read, and had charming characters. Lady Lily Morningstar had been hurt by men enough, she has decided to become a midwife and not ever rely on a man again for her survival. She had no desire to getting married until she is rescued by Ewan McDonald one night. She doesn’t like the feelings she experiences when she is near him, but she knows she doesn’t want him to marry her younger sister. Ewan has worked hard in life to get where he was, and he has certain ideas on the woman he plans on marrying and Lily does not fit his idea of the perfect bride. As she continues to take care of him, his opinion on the perfect bride changes. When he discovers she has no plans on getting married, he is discouraged but knows he must change her mind if he wants a future with her. The entire series is wonderful, and the characters are so loveable. Once you start the book, you won’t want to put it down until you finish!
I borrowed the book from Kindle Unlimited and I am voluntarily reviewing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am such a fan of women who pave their own way and in A Scot to Keep, Lady Lily Morningstar was all about making sure that she could take care of herself in a world where men were supposed to do that very thing. She had learned the hard way that being let down by the person responsible for you could be downright disastrous. Luckily, she and her sisters had found a place of peace and contentment where they would recover from their harrowing ordeal.
It was due to this horrible past experience that Lily had determined that marriage was not the life for her. She would not be beholden to any man but when Ewan McDonald was injured after coming to her aid, she quickly found that there was something about him that caused her to question her chosen path. I enjoyed her struggle because it did feel authentic and Ewan had a few struggles himself. Together they had a push-pull attraction that was fun to be a part of.
The swift romance between Lily and Ewan was endearing and meaningful. I love a good romance that takes two characters who “knew” what path they were determined to walk only to have everything turned upside down on them. True love conquers all is not a trope I can ever ignore! Overall, I found that A Scot to Keep was a most enjoyable story that has me anticipating the next adorable romance to come in this series!
This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Aurora Publicity. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
She was a damsel in distress, but she wasn’t in the market for a husband. Love was too fickle. He was a self-made man, striving to gain recognition and greater success. He needed the perfect bride to help position him in society so he would never be that poor crofter’s son, again. Fate brought them together and toyed with their hearts in a fun and charming way!
Tammy Andresen’s A SCOT TO KEEP is another delightful historical romance about finding love when it is least expected. This time out, there are no rakes, just an honorable man besotted by an honorable, independent, but not pushy woman he had just met. Ewan McDonald is the perfect fit for Lady Lily Morningstar, but can he prove it to her?
As always, Tammy Andresen has created a tiny bubble of romance to put a smile on readers’ faces and a sigh of contentment when the story is done! Always a happy ending, always just enough spice and emotional conflict to make the journey magnetic!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen! This is my honest and voluntary review.
A fated meeting… She was being attacked and he saved her, but got hurt in the process.
No, more than fate, maybe a destiny, maybe the beginning of a connection that could not be broken, maybe, just maybe….
Lily was learning to be a healing, and had just helped in the birth of a neighboring child. Walking home, it had gotten dark and she was attacked by bandits and all she could do was scream!
Ewan is on his way to see the neighboring laird on some business and hears a scream. Of course he goes to the rescue and ends up wounded and in the loving hands of Lily as he saves her and runs off the men.
Such a romantic interaction between Lily and Ewan, both who thought they had totally different goals. She not to marry and become independent. He to marry someone who would have connections to help in his political ventures.
Just the perfect story to make the heart smile…
And his future wife…he had a really specific set of goals there too and Lily didn’t meet them.”
Lily was so sick on the boat over and we didn’t get to know her very well so I was excited to see her story was next. After so many men letting her down she is determined to take her of herself and live life alone. That’s until Ewan rides into her life. Lily’s story was so perfect.
So Romantic! A Scot to Keep by Tammy Andresen is book 3 in the Brides of Scotland series. This is truly one of the most romantic books that I have read of Tammy’s and I so enjoyed it. Her characters are wonderful and the story original. There is nothing better than falling in love with a brawny and handsome Scotsmen. This story has attempted rape, rescue, injury, being taken care of, not wanting to marry, trust issues, motivation, a loving family, jealousy, kindness and love at first sight. I highly recommend this book or any of Tammy Andresen’s books, you won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

A Scot To Keep is a fabulous historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has provided readers with a well-written book packed with outstanding characters. Lily is training to be a healer and midwife. While her sister is now married to a man that will support them, she is determined to never be hungry again if she should ever be on her own. Ewan is on his way to try to obtain a contract for shipping his harvest when he comes upon Lily being attacked. Ewan and Lily’s story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading A Scot To Keep and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. A Scot To Keep is book 3 of the Brides of Scotland Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Taking place a little over a year after the previous book in the series, this book focuses on the second of the three Morningstar sisters, Lily. She’s been let down by men in her past, and is determined to make her own way in life, so she swears never to get married and throws herself into being trained as a healer. When Ewan is injured rescuing her from ruffians on the road, she finds herself doctoring his wounds…and falling in love.
I noticed a couple continuity errors, but otherwise I enjoyed this book. Lily and Ewan are both easily likable characters.
I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
A Scot to Keep – (Brides of Scotland #3 – Tammy Andresen
The Brides of Scotland series has been delightful to read. The Morningstar sisters have such different personalities but they have a bond that will keep them being best of friends for the rest of their lives.
This book tells the story of Lily Morningstar and Ewan McDonald, who meet on a dark night while Lily is walking back to her home and she is accosted by three men. Ewan happened to be riding to find the Laird Colin McFarland to try see if he could strike a deal to have McFarland’s shipping line carry his crops for sale to London. He hears Lily’s screams and rides to the rescue. Unfortunately, he is injured during the rescue. it seems Colin had come looking for Lily and found her treating Ewan’s injury, that is how Ewan ends up where he was heading. Not only did he find Colin, he found Lily, with whom he felt an immediate attraction to.
While Lily tends his wound there is another conversation happening in the household, which sister Daisy or Lily holds his interest? He knows which sister he wants but will it fate work in Ewan’s favour.
Along with budding romance this story, humor plays an important role, between Daisy, Ewan and Lily.
It’s a quick read and full of family love, anxiety, humor, self growth and happiness for Ewan and Lily.
I was given an advanced reader copy of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such a sweet, with a little bit of spice, story with a wonderful couple & lovable secondary characters. It was a short but lovely book that was just what I needed & it left me with a smile on my face!
Ewan McDonald always vowed to himself that he would make something successful of his life. He has worked hard in his endeavors & has gone from being a poor crofter to a Laird and landowner. He has planned out every move in his life to give him the most advantageous results. As he is seeking out the new Laird & ex-ship captain who owns the land next to his, he comes upon a young lady that is being attacked by two thieves & he rescues her.
Lady Lily Morningstar & her sisters have been lied to & mistreated by the men their entire lives and Lily has learned that men lie, use & disappoint them. She has decided to not marry and is training to become a healer. She lives with older sister, Rose & her laird husband, Colin & her other sister, Daisy and Lily plans on making her own way in life and being a midwife will bring money so she can be self sufficient. One evening around dusk, she is attacked by two men who wanted her valuables – she had none & began screaming for help. Lady Lily, meet Ewan McDonald who has just saved you from the two thieves & has taken a bad cut to his leg. Luckily Colin runs across them and they take Ewan back to the house so she may clean, stitch & tend to his leg.
Ewan & Lily were perfect to each other but Ewan wanted a wife with influence that would increase his standing as a laird & Lily had decided she did not want to marry. There was a pushy sister, some misunderstandings, lack of trust on Lily’s part & lack of ever being or giving love on Ewan’s part. I highly recommend this book & the series – I am looking forward to Daisy’s story!
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Of the three Morningstar sisters, Lily is the most sensitive with deep-seated fears that are the result of all the sisters have had to face. She promises never to marry. However, when Laird Ewan McDonald comes to her rescue and is injured in the process, Lily tends to his wounds and finds herself examining her internal vows regarding marriage. Ewan has had to work hard for the results he has achieved in his life, sometimes at the expense of personal relationships. The gentle healer makes him realise that her soft hands are a balm to both his body and his soul. However, he discovers that despite her gentle spirit, she is a determined woman who needs more than he is prepared to offer her. The plot is well written, romantic, and emotive, drawing the reader into the story and making one feel a part of it. It is a fairly short novel, but enjoyable nevertheless. As always Daisy is a force to be reckoned with and one wonders how her sisters survived her! I received a copy of the book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

My review :
After reading the previous book, I was very curious about Lily, I do love stories with healers.
And Mrs Tammy Andresen with this short tale brings together two people in need of healing.
Ewan rose himself from a pauper shoes less boy to a rather well installed man, now a laird in his own right. But he does not want to stop there, he needs more. Not in the greedy expression, more in the way to save his kin and never again face poverty again.
Lily while raised as a lady, had known too hunger and cold, why she swore to never marry and to have a skill to never have to rely on someone else to provide for herself. So Ewan’s entrance in her life is not something she expected nor dreamed. His presence derails everything she had been slowly constructing. He reawakens her inner fears, what if she trusts him and he leaves her.
Their instant chemistry unsettles him but he also realizes he is willing to change his plan if it might conduct him toward Lily. When she is more tempted to run away and believe the worst about him.
A lovely story of what someone wants and needs can be reached by giving in trust and faith in the other.
4 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

I loved this short story, which I read in a sitting, strong characters & a fast paced story made for a captivating read. I loved both Ewan & Lily who were so right for each other but he wanted a wife who would enhance his standing & she didn’t really want a husband, there were some misunderstandings & interferences which all made the road to their HEA a bit rocky, but heart warming & entertaining for the reader. I look forward to Daisy’s story
