He’s not exactly Prince Charming . . .
Fire shifter Daniel Trenton has only nightmarish memories of his mysterious past. As an orphan, raised on the streets, he does not have much in the way of prospects, but he is fine with that . . . until he falls in love with the daughter of a duke. Unfortunately, pursuing her would mean her social destruction. So he promises himself to leave her alone for her own good. But when her safety is threatened, Daniel has no choice but to become the hero she so desperately needs.
Heiress Faith Rosemary Went always believed she would be given the choice of whom to marry. So why is her father demanding she wed a man she’s never met, a man whose family terrifies her? When she resists the match, her prospective bridegroom’s family kidnaps her and whisks her away to Gretna Green. Having no one to rely on, Faith sets off to rescue herself before she’s ruined, or worse. Luckily, she discovers Daniel is already there.
Daniel’s investigation into Faith’s disappearance unravels two decades of lies, multiple murders, and a fire-shifting family history that spans three centuries. His newfound discoveries put him in the position to proudly and rightfully proclaim his place in society and, more importantly, proclaim his love for Faith.
But will he be able to prove the truth before Faith is forced to choose the wrong man?

Delightful Magical and Romantic Installment of Series
I have read several other books by this author in another series, and I love her take on magic, suspense, and romance in Regency England. Very few others attempt this take on that time, so I find this author’s work to be a lot of fun. I quite enjoyed this particular story of Daniel and Faith. Again, unusual for a Regency romance, Daniel is of the lowest of the low classes. He was abandoned as a boy and survived as a thief until he was taken in by kindly people who taught him right from wrong. Along the way, he spent time in the workhouses. Again, a slice of life we rarely see or hear about when we read Regency romance. While he may be from such a checkered background, he is still ultimately a decent person, even though he struggles with what to do as a respectable man while he tries to grow his magical powers (fire) as a part of the alliance. I loved the Cinderella aspect, and I adored that the hero was Cinderella! How could you not like Faith? I liked their meet-cute while she was trying to save a kitten. And I could understand her reaction completely to what was to be her fate. If you like a solid Regency that definitely has elements that you never see, you may very well enjoy this book. This is the second book of a series, and I recommend reading the first book before this one.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is a Regency romance complete with lots of villains and heroes. Along with some great characters theres also some magical abilities and enough twists to keep you guessing. Definitely an enjoyable read.

The second book in The Rue Alliance series a well written murder mystery,Regency romance story that kept me turning pages. Fire shifter Daniel Trenton does not know who he is as he was raised an orphan after an accident in his youth. He meets Heiress Faith Rosemary Went and stops her getting married at Gretna Green to her kidnapper. There is suspense, drama, danger, murder, a very evil villain, a very evil man, secrets, lies, kidnapping, and romance. I want to read the next book in this series. I cannot say enough good things about Ms. Vedam’s paranormal historical romances. I am a fan of Georgette Heyer, Joynell Schultz and KM Shea. To find someone who is able to blend the genres for which each of these authors are known into an seamless, enchanting, enthralling whole is amazing. This retelling of Cinderella with Daniel in that role, Lady Faith in the place of Prince Charming and the Prince Regent as the Fairy Godmother (??!??) is wonderfully diverting. My employer is probably going to be unhappy about my lack of productivity today, but I just could not put this book down.
