In the four years since her husband’s death, Melanie LaSalle’s life has been consumed with managing the family design firm and caring for her five-year-old daughter, Jerica. The possibility of a new relationship is the last thing on her mind. But when Melanie meets Joel Ellington, a new staff member at her church, she is instantly attracted to his warm spirit. As their friendship deepens, however, … deepens, however, Melanie is troubled by something she can’t quite understand or explain. Joel seems to be hiding something–in fact, most areas of his past are off-limits, even to her. Because of her growing feelings for him, Melanie pushes her doubts away. But when unsettling facts come to light–and when Joel disappears, along with the contents of a church bank account–she can no longer ignore her fears.
Now, torn between her feelings for Joel and evidence mounting against him, Melanie faces a heart-wrenching decision: to forget the man who gave her reason to love again or to trust Joel enough to give him her heart.
Exploring the themes of the importance of truth, loyalty, and trust, A Scarlet Cord illustrates that who we are in Christ depends little on outward appearances and much on our relationship with him, and that through faith, we can find places of comfort, healing, and selfless love.

Well my first review was a bit premature. Only two stars . I originally put the story aside because I just couldn’t get into the first five chapters. I rarely do that so after reading the positive reviews from other readers I gave it a second chance. I’m glad I did. For me, that is where the real story ” took off”. I found it got better and more engaging as the story progressed. I didn’t give it five stars because I still like my interest to be captured within the first few pages. But overall a really good read.
I love Deborah Rainey’s books, and this is another good one. Took me a little bit to understand what was going on, but then it catches you up in the story and makes you hope for the character’s futures.
I really enjoyed this book. If you like Christian fiction, I think you would too.

LOVED this book. I love all of Deborah Raney’s books. She’s a wonderful author who writes about a variety of interesting topics, not the same old, same old – and she always writes a good ending. I like fiction because I like happy endings!
Verry good read – thought provoking, unpredictable. Enjoyed the weaving of the characters and their journey.
Not bad book
I really enjoyed the story of this book. It was frustrating to feel I couldn’t read parts of it fast enough, but character descriptions provided rich detail while adding to the length. It felt like I was there and it was really happening.
Deborah Raney is a new author for me and I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read so far. She is really good at keeping you in suspense and making her characters real so you care what’s going to happen to them. I love the faith-filled portrayals.
Beautiful, poignant story. Inspirational on many levels.
