In the four years since her husband’s death, Melanie LaSalle’s life has been consumed with managing the family design firm and caring for her five-year-old daughter, Jerica. The possibility of a new relationship is the last thing on her mind. But when Melanie meets Joel Ellington, a new staff member at her church, she is instantly attracted to his warm spirit. As their friendship deepens, however, … deepens, however, Melanie is troubled by something she can’t quite understand or explain. Joel seems to be hiding something–in fact, most areas of his past are off-limits, even to her. Because of her growing feelings for him, Melanie pushes her doubts away. But when unsettling facts come to light–and when Joel disappears, along with the contents of a church bank account–she can no longer ignore her fears.
Now, torn between her feelings for Joel and evidence mounting against him, Melanie faces a heart-wrenching decision: to forget the man who gave her reason to love again or to trust Joel enough to give him her heart.
Exploring the themes of the importance of truth, loyalty, and trust, A Scarlet Cord illustrates that who we are in Christ depends little on outward appearances and much on our relationship with him, and that through faith, we can find places of comfort, healing, and selfless love.

Every book this author writes is excellent.
It took me a while to figure the meaning of the scarlet cord. but in the end it was a good read.
I have read several of Deborah’s books and have loved all of them. She has a wonderful way of drawing you into the book and make you feel like you know the characters on the pages. Engaging story!
Loved it! Wonderful story of love, forgiveness & redemption.
This book hooked me and kept me reading well into the night. Good clean romance with characters who live up to their christian standards.
Enough twists and turns that made me want to keep reading.
On of Deborah Ramey’s best!
Enjoyed the author
I read this book a while ago so I can’t remember all the attributes of it. But I remember really enjoying the book.
I very much enjoyed this story….often reading late into the night not wanting to put it down. It wasn’t your typical story line and I liked that. I could identify with the characters and all the different emotions. I loved that it continued to emphasize how we need to let go and let God lead our lives.
Very well written. Characters seemed very real.
Lots of twists and turns for the main characters. Seemed like things would never have a happy ending, but as they trusted God, He worked all things out for their good!
Wonderful author, wonderful stories, always search out her books. Highly recommend.
The book was well written and is a great addition for a weekend retreat.
It had a different story line about the WITSEC Program. It was romantic and a real tear-jerker. The ending was wonderful.
Successful widowed Melanie is surprised when she meets Joel and becomes attracted to him almost immediately. Even though Joel is involved in her church, there continues to be a mystery about him. It is not long before she gives her heart to him and he appears to return her affection to her and her child. When Joel disappears and church money disappears at the same time, everyone except Maggie assumes “the obvious.” To her credit, Maggie goes to great lengths to learn one way or the other if Joel is the man she thought she loved or if he is just a very good con man.
I love all of Deborah Raney’s books, and this was no exception. Such a difficult situation for people to deal with, and yet dealt with in a loving way.
Good read.
Debra Raney never disappoints
Thoroughly enjoyable!
