In the four years since her husband’s death, Melanie LaSalle’s life has been consumed with managing the family design firm and caring for her five-year-old daughter, Jerica. The possibility of a new relationship is the last thing on her mind. But when Melanie meets Joel Ellington, a new staff member at her church, she is instantly attracted to his warm spirit. As their friendship deepens, however, … deepens, however, Melanie is troubled by something she can’t quite understand or explain. Joel seems to be hiding something–in fact, most areas of his past are off-limits, even to her. Because of her growing feelings for him, Melanie pushes her doubts away. But when unsettling facts come to light–and when Joel disappears, along with the contents of a church bank account–she can no longer ignore her fears.
Now, torn between her feelings for Joel and evidence mounting against him, Melanie faces a heart-wrenching decision: to forget the man who gave her reason to love again or to trust Joel enough to give him her heart.
Exploring the themes of the importance of truth, loyalty, and trust, A Scarlet Cord illustrates that who we are in Christ depends little on outward appearances and much on our relationship with him, and that through faith, we can find places of comfort, healing, and selfless love.

I try to find at life impacting thought in every CF book I read: Am trusting God with everything in my life? Loved this book!
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel by Deborah Raney, who has fast become a favorite go-to author. Her stories always feature relatable characters who overcome insurmountable odds because of their faith in Christ. Love that she incorporates Scripture and isn’t afraid to tackle difficult subjects. This book kept me engaged from start to finish. Highly recommend this read and this author.
I really enjoyed this book. It had some unexpected twists that led to the expected happy ending.
I enjoyed the characters which the author developed beautifully. I did not have much of an understanding of witness protection but I found it interesting to view it in a small dose.
This is a good lesson for those of us that try to do things our way. When we do it God’s way it works out so well.
A good clean book.
Enjoyed the selfless love shown by both main characters. Somewhat drawn out but worth the read.
We need more Christian fiction like this.
Loved it!

I couldn’t put it down
Wonderful characters and loved how Joel and Melanie both put God first in their lives and felt his peace and direction. Really good book.
I have never been disappointed by a Deborah Raney book yet, I have to be in the right mood to read some books but with hers I can read them anytime! She is such a great author who can you draw you in with the first line of a book and keep you until the end. Her husband designed the book cover. Such a talented couple, and they seem so nice as well.
Well done
I always like Deborah Raney books, but this one didn’t enthrall me as much as others. It seemed too dragged out to the point where I forgot what happened in the beginning. Sometimes it seemed a bit too farfetched & implausible. But it’s a nice, clean, Christian book with minimal typos.
