Cute!
A Satyr For Christmas is sort of a strange concept – Greek Mythology celebrating a Christian/secular holiday? Aside from that, it’s a good story! Satyrs were once human, but were cursed with goat-feet, ram’s horns, insatiable lust, and eternal life. During the day, they can appear normal but after dark, the horns come out. Cyprian Agrios, poor fellow, has found a way to be able to move about freely in modern society – he’s hiding in plain sight as a rock star. The buttoned-up, locked-down reporter who is sent to interview him is not impressed with his banter, or his “prosthetics,” but is strangely and unwillingly attracted nonetheless. A chance second meeting involving her revolting ex, Cyprian, and his back-stabbing former bandmate sets the stage for love, lawsuits, and lusty encounters the satyrical kind, as as a mythical monster becomes a real hero to a gal who needs someone to Grinch-proof her Christmas Present, and Future. This is a voluntary ARC review.
Book four of the Mystifying Music series a well written story and I want to read the next book in this series. Cyprian Agrios is a Satyr and he meets human Chastity Michaels, but there is trouble brewing as someone wants to prove what he really is.How they overcome this made for a very good story. Chastity Michaels was impatiently waiting to get this task over with. Her assignment is to review the hot new rock band, A Mythical Dilemma, who were suddenly gaining lots of popularity in the States. She wasn’t into wild theatrics, prosthetics, and sexually suggestive lyrics, but she was bribed into it by a new stage production she really wanted to see. Her boss was curious about the prosthetics which were so good they seemed to actually be real. But Chastity figured anyone that gullible deserved to be fooled. This was why Chastity preferred stage productions where it told a story and the crowd didn’t scream their heads off!
The band started to take their places, and she watched for Cyprian Agrios, the one who made women swoon as if he actually were a satyr from Greek mythology, since he was not on stage yet. In a dramatic entrance, he was lowered to the stage and began to sing. He had a great voice, and even Chastity felt her toes tapping to the beat of the song. When it ended, he seemed to turn and look right into her eyes, then he grinned! In the middle of the set, Cyprian had an instrumental solo, not with a guitar, which she expected, but a set of Pan flutes composed of multiple reeds bound from the shortest to the longest. The audience sat in rapt silence, and it felt like he was playing only for Chastity. In fact, he had noticed her disapproving expression and the press badge; he knew she would trash them in a review if he didn’t do something surprising. So he caused her to have a strong physical reaction to his panpipes that she wasn’t able to stop. His bandmate wasn’t happy that he did that, but they were just getting popular here and he wanted the group to keep up the momentum while they could.
Cyprian Agrios becomes a challenge to Chastity who decides to learn more about him. When she asked why he chose to be a satyr on stage, he told her the real truth about the curse. But she was angry that he “stayed in character” instead of giving her the “truth”. She might never accept him for who he really was, but her opinion of him…mattered.
His stage “prosthetics” aren’t fake at all. He’s really a satyr, and the more famous they become, the sooner his secret is bound to come out. Even worse, his ex-lead singer who had quit the band had betrayed him it appears. In the new stage production, Syrinx, which Chastity had come to see, Daryl Mills was telling Cyprian’s actual story of how he became a satyr, but more than that. It was Pan’s story. That of the Satyroi. A secret Daryl had been trusted with and was sharing without permission. What repercussions would this have? Is Cyprian’s true nature in danger? Will things only get worse? Will he have to make a deal with a god to fix this – and at what cost?
This was an enjoyable read with a supernatural element as the lead singer is a Greek mythological satyr. The story line was good, well-paced, emotional, and the characters were definitely interesting! Grab your copy and see if there is any help for Cyprian before his secret is exposed and people are hurt!
