In book three of the Marsden Romance series we get Liam Marsden and Gemma Kemsley’s journey of love. This is a historical romance filled with likable characters, drama, angst, interesting twists and an ending that was a bit ott but worth the read.
Ms. Brower always delivers a great story and this book is no different. After reading the last book, I was hoping Liam and Gemma would get together and was delighted when I started reading this book and that was the case. With a nicely flowing storyline and plenty of plot twists, this book had me engaged and captivated till the end. Loved following Liam and Gemma to their HEA. How they get there is quite the story you do not want to miss! Definitely looking forward to Ms. Brower’s next book!

Lady Gemma Kemsley is in a very bad situation. When her cousin, Alfie, now the Earl of Devon, inherited her father’s estate, he squandered all the money and is desperate for more now to pay off his enormous debts. He decides to marry Gemma and claim her dowry and inheritance. She cannot even marry anyone else without his approval, so her only possibility would be to run away to America and join her best friend.
Gemma’s best friend, Lily, writes to her father to help Gemma out of this predicament. Her brother, Liam Marsden, had been the one intended to marry her several years ago in line with a business merger that was never completed, but he saw her as an irritating nuisance, constantly arguing with him, and he had turned down the proposal. The marriage contract their parents had drawn up back then was still available, and when Alfie continues his desperate attempts, Liam can produce the contract so Alfie cannot prevent their marriage. He hadn’t intended to use it, but when he sees Gemma, he knows he can’t let her go this time. Rather than kidnap her and help her run away to America, will he use the old betrothal agreement to marry her instead?
I always love this author’s stories, and this was no exception. Liam really didn’t want to marry Gemma, as he told his father. Would he change his mind yet again? Or will he agree to honor the contract and keep Gemma by his side?
Wonderful read
After I read A Christmas Angel I was so glad to see Liam and Lily got their own stories. A Sanguine Gem is Liam’s. It’s tells how thanks to a piece of paper Liam was able to rescue Gemma from her vile nasty cousin and realize his love for her. It took him awhile to realize he was in love with Gemma and due to his past treatment of her it took her a little while to believe in his love for her. His current actions weren’t helping to much either. I was happy Gemma got her happy ending with Liam. And the ending was sweet but you have to read Liam’s parents story A Flawed Jewel to truly appreciate the ending. Also I’m looking forward to reading A Hidden Ruby, Noah’s story. Although after reading the prologue I’m already on the fence where Rubina is concerned. It doesn’t matter either way even when I don’t like the characters I enjoy everything I read by Dawn Brower.

Liam and Gemma just cannot get their relationship on the right track. First, he refuses to be betrothed to Gemma. Then they’re married but she refuses to trust Liam. Each treats the other rather shabbily so you can see why there isn’t a whole lot getting them to admit their true feelings. There’s the threat of Gemma’s cousin that adds to their difficulties. You’ll wonder if they’ll ever get on even footing and make their marriage bloom. In the end, they get a little push in a most unconventional way.

Liam is the son of Thor and Pieretta from A Flawed Jewel, Book1 of the series, and twin sister to Lily the h in A Treasured Lily, Book 2 of the series. There has been a long-standing but not completely official betrothal agreement that Liam would marry Gemma Kemsley, the daughter to a long-time friend to Thor. The only reason the betrothal is not official was that Thor had agreed to give his son a chance to marry for love but after Gemma’s father died and her inheritance, as well as Gemma herself, are placed in danger, Liam steps in to help, catching the cousin, who has inherited the estate of Gemma’s father, attacking Gemma he whisks her away and marries her that same night. Gemma has loved Liam for quite some time and even once went so far as to declare that love to him which he rejected, thinking of her as only a friend to his sister and therefore breaking her heart so she does not believe he married her for any reason other than chivalry. What follows is a wonderful story of a love discovered-maybe too late-that has to be worked at to be earned and an unrequited love finally returned but not without a bit of doubt to be overcome. Another truly lovely Marsden family romance by Dawn Brower!

Another wonderful story about a Marsden finding love. Humorous. Witty. When he was fourteen Liam’s father and Gemma’s made a pact that they would marry when they came of age. Gemma’s father signed the betrothal documents but Liam’s never did. He kept them though in case. At the time Liam had never met Gemma and wanted to marry for love or not at all. Over the years as Gemma became Liam’s sister’s best friend, he steered clear of Gemma as much as possible. Two years ago she professed her love for him and he shot her down. Now her cousin is the new Duke and wants to force Gemma to marry him for her dowry. Liam has to come to her rescue, and when he sees her being assaulted by her cousin he brings up the old betrothal and marries her. But now that he loves her she doesn’t trust him and wants nothing to do with a loveless marriage. He was to court his wife, but her cousin is still scheming to get her dowry. I love the female characters in these stories. They are proud, smart, won’t take orders from their husbands, and can stand up for themselves. The bring the men they love to their knees. I’ve been hoping that Liam and Gemma would have their own story since meeting them in the last book. I enjoyed the damsel in distress and unrequited love tropes presented here. It was enjoyable to read and there were some good twists.

This is entertaining and suspenseful. Liam and Gemma were supposed to marry, according to both family’s, but Liam didn’t feel obligated to follow through with the plan, and broke Gemma’s heart instead. When Gemma needs saving from her cousin, she turns to her best friend Lily, Liam’s sister, for help. And got an ally in their father. Drama and fireworks follow.
