Welcome to Book One in “The Hellion Club”, the nickname for the Darrow School, where miscreant noblemen send their illegitimate daughters to keep them out of sight, out of mind, and to make them employable. It’s propriety, secrets, and passion in this scorching new series! Read for Free with Kindle Unlimited!Douglas “Devil” Ashton, Lord Deveril, was forced by his father to join the army and was … forced by his father to join the army and was exiled to India. It was punishment for all his many wicked, wild and reckless ways. While serving his country, the unthinkable happens at home. Devil’s sister is seduced by a fortune hunter and cast out by their father. By the time Devil returns to England, he’s too late to save her… but if he can obtain the right governess, one who specializes in working with children others have deemed unmanageable, he might be able to save his niece.
There is only one problem – no respectable woman would ever consent to be employed in the house of the Devil Lord. If she did, she’d never be able to be employed elsewhere again, as his very name is synonymous with ruin.
But Wilhelmina Marks is no ordinary governess. She’s a graduate of the Darrow School, an integral member of The Hellion Club, and a determined lady in her own right. Marina, Lord Deveril’s niece is a challenge… but not nearly as challenging as her uncle. He is all that they have said of him. Hedonistic. Rakishly charming. Too handsome by far. But also kind and perhaps a little broken. It’s that combination which draws Willa to him and makes him irresistible to her.
But danger looms when Marina’s wastrel, fortune hunting father returns, intent on claiming his daughter.
Willa and Devil must work together to keep the little girl safe… is it a recipe for disaster or a recipe for love?

Douglas Ashton, Lord Deveril has returned home from serving with the army in India. His despised father is dead and now he must find his sister . What he finds is devastating and will change his life for ever.
Wilhelmina Marks has had an unfortunate past but a very good education. She will hopefully put that to use as a governess. The troubled child needs much more than any ordinary governess could give her.
The past has coloured the lives of all the characters in this story. Although it makes them stronger it also makes them worry about other people’s motives. There is a lot of emotion and danger here with wonderful characters. I have a feeling we will meet a pair of the secondary characters in the next book. I hope so.
A very exciting read.
Oh my, how I loved this first book in this series by Chastity Bowlin. It hit all the right buttons with me. A hedonistic lord, an unmanageable child, a feisty governess, a faux betrothal, a very vile character. The plot was very good. There was an excellent flow to the writing. Great banter between the two main characters. Douglas, Lord Ashton met his match in Willa Marks, who stood up to him and was honest with him. She saw that for all his debauched ways he was really a very lonely man filled with anger, pain, and grief. It wasn’t an easy path on their journey to a HEA but well worth the read. I look forward to the next in the series.
I loved this story & the plot sends you in a myriad of emotions with its intense plot full of mystery, a ruthless cold Aunt of Lord Deveril, a conniving ex-lover of the heroine, Wilhelmina & a tiny niece that has lost her mother & needs protection.
Douglas”Devil” Ashton, Lord Deveril was exiled & forced to join the army years ago & he has been serving in India. He returns home, his father dead & searches for his sister but when he finds her she is taking her last breaths of life & begs him to raise & care for her daughter (his niece). This will change his life completely – he must give up his rogue ways, find a governess for his young niece but he has no idea how to handle raising a small girl.
Wilhelmina Marks was orphaned, along with her sister, but they were found by a lady who ran a girls school who took them in & they become well educated. Wilhelmina hopes to become a governess & she soon receives word that a gentleman needs a governess for his young & troubled niece who has recently lost her mother & needs direction in helping the girl adjust to her new life with her uncle.had an unfortunate past but a very good education.
When he meets Willa, Lord Devil thought she would be older & less lovely. Upon meeting him, Willa expected a rake but found an honorable uncle. All of the fireworks surrounding their lives start here & I can guarantee you an exciting journey. I highly recommend this book & Chasity Bowlin has created some really wonderful characters & a couple of evil, disgusting ones.
Wilhelmena Marks is a bastard daughter of a lord who dropped her and her sister off at an orphanage rather than deal with them when she was a child. Luckily both girls were found by a woman who had a school for girls in similar straits, and were given support and educations, along with a place to call home. She is called upon to help a man with his very young niece, who has just lost her mother, adjust to her new life as his ward.
Lord Deveril, aka the Devil Lord, has a reputation for being a man with few, if any moral boundaries. He has spent time in India after being disowned by his father, who wasn’t much of a parent anyway. He is devastated over the loss of his sister, and wants only to live up to his deathbed promise to her to care for her child. Therefore he has called for an experienced governess.
He expected someone older, less attractive. She expected not to find that he was actually honorable. The two are drawn together despite their desire to avoid entanglements as conspiracy and danger pull them even closer together in a bid to protect a child they both care for deeply.
This is a really good story, and it’s difficult to put down once it’s begun because it’s filled with twists, and intrigue as well as some heat . I thoroughly enjoyed it and am hoping to read a story involving Willa’s employer….
What an amazing adventure lies ahead for you when you read, A Rouge to Remember. The plot is so intense, full of mystery, a rouge called The Devil. a governess, named Wilhelmina; from the strait-laced Darrow School, and a tiny little girl that lost her mother. Put all this together with a cold calculating Aunt of Lord Devil, a scheming ex-lover from her past and what an adventure you are about to withhold. Money is the root of all evil, but in the Devil’s house respectability does not exist. Or does it and none of Society seems to realize it or care. After all, gossip is what fuels them and what really makes them get up each day. I enjoyed this read so much and can not wait for the next adventure Chasity Bowlin brings our way.
Be still my heart. When I read the blurb I knew this was going to be a story I would love. The wild but deep down wounded hero Devil, who comes to the aid of his niece. He found his sister when she was on her last breath and was able to rescue his niece. “Devil reached for her, lifting her to him. She screamed and kicked, fighting him with a fierceness that belied her slightness. He simply pulled her closer. And held her to him as tightly as he could. “I’ll take care of her. I’ll take care of you”, he vowed, “Whatever the cost. I promise.” Sold. I loved him at that moment!!
But when he tries to hire a governess for his niece, the tables turn a little when he meets Wilhemina Marks, graduate of the Darrow School and not afraid to speak her mind! But Willa is reluctant to ruin her reputation by being in the home of the well know rake but feels so much for the child who can only scream missing her mother.
They make a “devil” of a bargain and she agrees to stay and help the troubled child. Will she be able to resist such a handsome devilish man? He has promised to give up his scanadalous ways while she is there but will it last?
Just loved this story and could not put it down! Such an exciting start to this new series by Chasity and as in all of her books, I was totally captured from the first!! Cannot wait until the next one!!
Forfeit or Future
Lord Deveril, or Devil to his friends, has rightly earned his cynical view of life. He exists on the fringes of Society, but he ignores all of its gossip. He is hardened and cares little for others, with the exception of his sister and his niece. That’s were Miss Wilhelmina Marks comes in. He needs a special governess for his troubled niece. But any young woman who agrees to help him will forever forfeit her reputation.
I really liked the well-written A Rogue to Remember by Chasity Bowlin. I loved both the flawed hero and heroine, as well as Devil’s sweet niece Marina. I also thought the story took a well worn governess/lord plot and made it a bit more original with a different and deeper perspective. That said, not even the tender but combustible moments, the danger and the happy ending could overcome the excessive and repetitive angst-filled introspection on the part of both Devil and Willa. A little is okay, but there was just too much. Which is why (for me) this is a four stars instead of five stars.
Still, did I mention it has a very sweet and sigh-worthy ending?
Content 411: In addition to some moderate religious and secular swearing (but no hardcore vulgarities), there is also passionate kissing with suggestive dialogue and a moderately described sexually intimate scene.
It was a fun read. Romantic too!
Loved the story and characters! This book is so well written and was hard to put down!
I really enjoyed this book and will read more by this author.
When Devil finds his sister Alice, she is dying. She asks Lord Deveril to take care of her three-year old child, Marina. Because he needs a governess for Marina, he hires Willa who has been trained at the Donnor school. The main complicating factor (beside Willa and Devil’s physical attraction) is that Alaric, Marina’s father, feels he is owed money for the loss of his illegitimate child. So two conflicts run through the book: should Willa and Devil defy society and marry, and willAlaric succeed in one of his nefarious plans. This book was terrific. The author, Chastity Bowlin, does a fine job of describing the awakening love between Willa and Devil and the thoughts they have, both pro and con, as they consider what action to take in their relationship.
I love anything Chasity Bowlin writes but A Rogue to Remember, book 1 in her new Hellion Club, is now at the top of my list of all time favorites. Chasity’s knowledge of the time and the scandals that occurred because of a class system is beyond remarkable. She takes the most vulnerable of society at the time and turns them into strong her if main characters. It is delightful to read how these individuals turn the tables on the world at that time and come out in the end being better then the best of the higher classes. In this story especially her main female character achieves a happily ever after that would be unheard of at the ti me while maintaining her strong morals, ethics and grace. I was so enthralled with the story and the characters I read this book late into the night finishing it in the wee hours of the morning. I just had to see how Chasity got her characters out of the mess they were in. Romance, history and suspense, that’s what you will find in Chasity Bowlin’s latest novel A Rogue to Remember. It is available on Kindle Unlimited. Unfortunately my library is too full or I would start on Book 2 as soon as possible. But you should pick this book up as soon as possible. I am convinced you too will make room for Chasity Bowlin on your favorite authors bookshelf!
United in their love for a broken child, Willa and Lord Devil will go to great lengths to help her heal. Just maybe along the way, they’ll discover love can create a family out of ruin.
I love a man who loves his family and children. Devil’s background story earned him lots of points with this reader. His dead father, not so much. The author lays out both Willa and Devil’s motivations for why they are how they are and it was both believable and instantly had me cheering for them to find love. Their first face to face meeting is both fun and a little volatile. I couldn’t wait until round 2.
The ruse that they come up with, to keep her reputation in tact, was a little unbelievable for me. It relied heavily on his servants not knowing the truth. As Willia had been in his home before on interview for the governess position, I wasn’t sure how they would suddenly forget just because she returned in the guise of his betrothed.
Outside of that mild crit, the story flows really well. The dialogue and scenery are descriptive and well in keeping with the time period. I felt like I was there. I also was drawn into how unjustly people can be judged for actions outside their control. Books that make me feel something are good books.
There’s a sinister element to this story that I had to see resolved as soon as the villain of the piece was introduced. Hated him on site and looked forward to his imminent demise.
I love the concept of this series of books and I’m excited to see several more planned. The Hellion Club is made up of the byblows of upper crust. The fact that these girls who are sent to Darrow School to be hidden away are going to make such a huge in-your-face’ explosion in “polite society” tickles me to no end. I can’t wait to see who makes a splash next!
