4.5 Stars
Reese Ryan’s Bourbon Brothers series centers around an African-American family who own a bourbon distillery in Magnolia Lake, Tennessee. A Reunion of Rivals is the fourth book in the series and is a standalone read.
It’s been 13 years since Quinn Bazemore and Max Abbott have seen each other. They shared one magical summer together. Then he returned to college and broke up with her because he couldn’t trust his intense feelings. He never told her why they broke up. He just left her feeling used and heartbroken. Now the two are reunited when their families form a business partnership.
Max is the VP of Marketing for his family’s company, King’s Finest Distillery. For over two years, he and his younger sister Zora have been working to convince their father Duke, the CEO, to make fruit flavored bourbon a permanent addition to their bourbon line. Duke and Joseph, his father and company founder, finally agree to add the flavored bourbon to their line for a test period. The catch is that Max will be working with Quinn, who will be representing her grandfather’s fruit orchard, Bazemore Orchards. As the two work together, old romantic feelings resurface.
Max and Quinn are both characters I liked immediately. They’re afraid of making the same mistakes of the past. They’re both career-driven, but on the personal front, they’re both vulnerable. Both love their families beyond measure. I loved that when they finally sat down and talked about their past that they were able to truly reconcile.
Reese’s Bourbon Brothers series is one of my favorite series because it’s all about family. The Abbott family is truly my dream family. I love the close-knit bond the parents and siblings all share. Yes, there are times when the siblings don’t get along, but there isn’t any scheming or backstabbing going on. For this group, family is everything.
I think there are two books remaining in the series, featuring the remaining Abbott siblings, Zora and Cole. Over the course of the series, readers have been given a glimpse at these two. I can’t wait to see how these two finally fall in love, Zora with her close friend and Cole with a mystery lady.

**Received a copy from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed. Also purchased a copy of the book myself.**
The Bourbon series . What can I say Reese you have done it again with this book .
What I like to say about Quinn and Max I love their chemistry of these two . I can’t wait for Zora story who is next and definitely can’t wait for Cole’ s story .
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a really great story. From the setting in Magnolia Lake, TN to the family itself with all their big personalities, I was just drawn to this story from the beginning. Enjoyed watching Quinn and Max see each other again after such a long period of time was very interesting as well as how things progressed with them working together, trying to be friends and putting the past aside but still knowing there was chemistry brewing under the surface with these two. Max’s assistant Molly was also such a perfect part of this story as well. I was so into this story that when it ended, I wanted more. Looking forward to Zora’s story but the one I’m really looking forward to is Cole’s story. Great book!
Quinn needs this PR job, she’ll do everything, even work with a man who broke her heart.
Max, left Quinn over a decade ago, he felt too much too fast and it scared him. Now they have to work together and it looks like old feelings didn’t die.
Wonderful story with great characters. Loved it.
A second chance with your first love does not happen often. Past hurts does shape our future relationships but if we stay guarded we may miss our blessing…Max and Quinn were destined to be with each other but they had to overcome hurdles to get there. Cole and Quinn show how a man and woman can be friends with romantic entanglement.
Back together again and the sparks are explosive. I think that their history and second chance are well portrays them as a meant to be couple. Reading how Max & Quinn are challenged to work through their rivalry and emotions was such a gratifying romantic encounter with angst, drama, mutual chemistry and love that preserves.

Reese Ryan has done it again, Max and Quinn thought that what they shared together 13 years ago one brief summer was dead and over. A family meeting of companies showed them both that they were still very much in love with each other. It was great to catch up with all the Abbotts, but Reese scared me when Grandpa Joe went down, so glad he’s on the mend to recovering.

A Reunion of Rivals is the fourth book in Reese Ryan’s The Bourbon Brothers series. Quinn Bazemore and Max Abbott haven’t seen one another for thirteen years. Now, they are sitting face-to-face and she is being given a project to manage that is near and dear to Max’s heart.
A Reunion of Rivals is just that a reunion of two long ago lovers. Neither Quinn nor Max has forgotten their romance all those years ago. It was heartwarming as they bared their souls and found a way to come to peace with their lives.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series. I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review.
Reese Ryan has done a superb job with The Bourbon Brothers Series and I looking forward to reading about Zora and Dallas and Cole and his love interest.
Max and Quinn’s grandfathers and Max’s father are great friends. Quinn and Max met when Max does a summer internship at the farm of Quinn’s grandfather. They have a brief hot fling and Max’s calls it off because he is running scared and not really ready for a relationship.
Max and Quinn go off to college and Max realizes that he has made a terrible mistake and seeks Quinn out but her roommate sets up a road block after Quinn informs her of what happened between her and Max. Max attempts several calls but Quinn has changed her telephone.
Max and Zora are working a fruity tasting bourbon and after several rejections from the elders they finally give their consent and decide to take a chance on the bourbon. Quinn is a marketing expert and she is called him to help. The elder Abbots and Quinn’s grandfather decide up on a merger using the Bazemore grapes. Max isn’t to happy to be working with Quinn so it seems.
This was a great second chance at love; second chances don’t work for everyone but they do work and did for Quinn and Max.
It was nice to catch up with Parker, Savannah, Blake, Kayleigh, Zora and Cole.
I received a ARC from Booksprout.
I literally devoured this ARC, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next at the end of each chapter. I loved Quinn, she’s determined, smart, sexy and I loved her respect and caring for her grandfather. Quinn enters the boardroom where her ex, Max is seated at the table and poor Max is blindsided. Max, the same ex who dumped her after a summer affair more than 10 years ago.
The Abbott and Bazemore family have a long history of being allies. The grandfathers of both families have been good friends for decades. So when they actually partner together In business for a specialized line of fruit brandy, Quinn is brought in with her marketing skills to join the team. Max fights working jointly with Quinn on the Marketing strategy, but is shutdown by his father and the board.
Quinn stops Max’s attempts at an apology at every turn, but they both feel the same pull and chemistry from their previous relationship. Once they take their first overnight conference trip together, Quinn gives into the pull of Max with some clear boundaries for a sex only relationship, no strings attached.
I was thrilled when Quinn finally trusted Max and her intuition enough to fully give into her love for him and they finally let the family know.
There are so many sweet and sentimental parts of this story (Max’s tattoo over his heart with her initials) along with some humor and plenty of family drama. I loved Max’s siblings, Cole and Zola, and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Quinn and Max shared a relationship that was intensely passionate, until it ended abruptly. Thirteen years later they are face to face, the reunion tense. Quinn and Max now have to navigate their necessary proximity. Max knows he messed up all those years ago, Quinn wants to leave their history firmly where it belongs in the past, keeping her eyes on her goals.
I enjoyed the journey that Quinn and Max traverse as they deal with unresolved emotions, hurt feelings, recriminations, forgiveness, attraction and strong chemistry.
The story is well written and nuanced weaving together strong, complex family bonds and the reunion of Max and Quinn. I
A Reunion of Rivals was a fantastic read featuring an amazing second chance romance.
Max Abbott has been working on expanding the offerings at King’s Finest Distillery for nearly three years. But when his father announces he’s ready to go ahead with the new line, Max’s happiness is short lived after he finds out his father hired Max’s ex Quinn Bazemore to help with the launch. As Max and Quinn work in close proximity on the launch, their reignited attraction threatens to derail their project.
Max and Quinn had a short but intense relationship thirteen years prior to the story, but after Max handled ending the relationship poorly, the pair went their separate ways avoiding each other for over a decade. It does take some time for Max and Quinn to work past what happened when they were younger as Quinn is adamant she doesn’t want to talk about the past. While I do wish they had worked things out sooner so we could’ve gotten to the new relationship faster, it ultimately made sense that Quinn would be reluctant to dredge up one of the most painful periods in her life. But, once the two do work things out, their romance heats up quickly from there. The chemistry between these characters was simply phenomenal and I loved watching the sexual tension build throughout the first half of the book. Once the two resume a sexual relationship, the scenes are steamy and incredibly well done. Ultimately I liked how the pair reached their happily ever after and it was nice that it was a fairly low angst experience.
One thing I loved about this book was the Abbott family dynamics. The relationships between the siblings was quite realistic with varying levels of closeness between them. Large families that are a central focus are one of my favorite things to see in romance books and the Abbott family was no exception. Not all of the family relationships are easy, particularly where Max’s relationship with his brother Cole is concerned, but those complexities are what make the characters feel more real and I appreciated the attention to detail the author paid in such a short book.
A Reunion of Rivals was my first Reese Ryan book and it definitely won’t be my last. I highly recommend this story and will be checking out the rest of the series in the future.
Entertaining and enchanting story with great characters. Intense and exhilarating tale of romance and love. Love the journey. Good read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good second chance romance. Max and Quinn had a secret relationship one summer before leaving for college. Quinn was eighteen, and Max was twenty. Quinn was heartbroken when Max suddenly broke off the relationship and disappeared from her life. They haven’t seen each other for thirteen years until Quinn walks into the boardroom at King’s Finest and upends his life.
Max and his sister worked for two years to convince their father and grandfather to take a chance on producing fruit brandies. Now that they have agreed, as Marketing VP, Max is ready for the next step. He is angry when told that the marketing project will be headed by someone else, and stunned when he finds out it is Quinn.
Quinn is determined to make this campaign a success for two reasons. First, the fruit for the brandy comes from her grandfather’s farm. The success of the venture will make or break his business. Second, Quinn needs this job to repair the professional reputation trashed by her vindictive ex-fiancé and his father (her former employer).
I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Quinn and Max. On the work side, Max had to get over his resentment at having Quinn put in charge. It took a little doing, but he did finally realize that it made sense to have someone who could devote the time to it. I had to laugh when he admitted that he couldn’t come up with any ideas that were better than hers. That helped them relax into a good working relationship. But under that working relationship simmered the renewal of their attraction.
I liked the fact that Max immediately tried to apologize for the way he broke off their prior relationship. He knew he was wrong when he did it, but the intensity of his feelings for Quinn scared him. Quinn doesn’t want to hear his apology. She wants to keep the past in the past and keep the present professional. Having been burned by her recent relationship, Quinn doubts the wisdom of getting involved with Max again, both for the risk to her heart and the risk to her career. In addition to working together, they are also thrown together during several social occasions. It doesn’t take long for Max to realize that he wants Quinn back in his life, but overcoming the obstacles won’t be easy. Quinn fights against her feelings and tries to convince herself that a secret fling is all she wants. I loved it when she got to the point where she trusted him enough to tell him about her ex. Max’s understanding and patience went a long way toward making Quinn believe in their feelings. I loved the ending scene with the family.
One of my favorite things about this series is the closeness of the Abbott family. Their love and respect for each other is evident but doesn’t preclude some familial difficulties. There is an ongoing storyline dealing with brother Parker’s belief that he should be the next CEO, rather than the oldest brother Blake. That comes to a head in this book. I thought the issue was handled realistically, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out. I liked seeing more of the youngest and only girl, Zora. She is good at what she does but is also the one who tends to stick her nose in everybody’s business. I liked her interactions with Quinn and loved how she poked at Max. I found the youngest brother, Cole, very intriguing. He is the only one not involved in the family business, which has caused some stress. Things between him and Max are especially tense and become more so when Max discovers that Cole and Quinn have been good friends for years. Max’s jealousy was obvious, even when Cole tried to set him straight. I ached for Cole, who is hurt by the attitudes of Max and the rest of the family. I look forward to his book and seeing him come into his own – and lose his womanizer status!
Ryan is one of my favorite voices in contemporary romance. This second chance, friends to lovers, romance strikes all the right notes.
Max and Quinn were an item for a summer during college. Max mad it known his wants. But as the summer ends, Quinn thinks he might have changed his mind. But no. 13 years later they are supposed to be on the same team to promote the new brand of flavored brandy. Max has tried to apologize for his short coming of that summer. It to little 13 years to late. Or is it? Compromising points and positions Keeps steering these two destined knuckleheads together. No one’s listening… we kind of. Make a determined mind up.

A Reunion of Rivals is the latest installment of The Bourbon Brothers, by Ryan Reese and it is as hot and engaging as that gorgeous cover suggests.
The trope cocktail served up for our pleasure includes second-chance-romance, enemies-to-lovers, office-romance and secret-affair. And I am here for all of it.
The story centers on Quinn Bazemore and Max Abbott, who had an intense summer romance when they were both teenagers. Everything comes to an end when, to Quinn’s confusion, Max ends things without reason and disappears from her life. She carries that heartbreak within but it doesn’t stop her from becoming a successful business woman with an exemplary career.
The meet years later, Quinn and Max find themselves forced to collaborate after a merger between their two family businesses. Of course, feelings come roaring back to life, with Max regretting the way he ended things with Quinn and Quinn understandably hesitant to rekindle things and risk getting hurt again. However, the attraction grows inescapable, leading to a secret affair that threatens to overturn all their best intentions.
I absolutely loved Quinn’s character. She’s confident in her area of expertise and willing to assert herself. She is no wilting flower. Max is used to being in control and truly cares for his family’s company, so sometimes it’s hard for him to back down when he disagrees with Quinn. But Quinn is more than his match, and this story sizzles as a result.
I also love the depictions of Max’s family, especially the real strength of the sibling’s bonds. I love seeing characters from previous books come through and add to the texture of a wonderfully rendered world. Bonus points for Quinn’s grandfather, who is absolutely lovely.
This is the second book I’ve ready by Reese Ryan and I look forward to reading more books by her.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

This is beautiful story focused on love and a second chance.
It is the type of story that clutches you at once and does not release you until you get to the end – then you find yourself pining over the fact that the book has ended.
I loved how the relationship unfolded so we could see these amazing characters grow in ways they never expected.

This is my first book I have read from from Reese Ryan and I was very pleased and excited that I chose to read this book. I will definitely read her back log and upcoming books in the future. Max and Quinn have amazing sexual attraction. This second chance romance featured angst, lust, passion, powerful families and touch of hometown closeness. I would recommend this book to all my book buddies
