This reviewer says it best: As in Houston’s previous books, this yarn has all of the elements, a murder mystery, a bit of romance, and my favorite, the wonderful interactions Jake has with his animals, Fred, his golden retriever, and a new found kitten who tries to steal the show. Houston is able to tell his story without gratuitous violence or sex. Richard Houston is a two-time USA Today Best … two-time USA Today Best selling author whose amateur sleuth solves murder mysteries in Colorado and the Missouri Ozarks with his Golden Retriever and widowed, sixty-nine year old neighbor.

I really like all of the “to die for” books…can’t wait for the next one. I especially like that Fred (Jake’s dog) always figures in the stories.
I love this series. Little biased I admit.
I love his books, have read a lot of them.
good story with likeable characters, and a mystery that you don’t figure out until the end
I really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to reading other books by the same author.
I have read 6 in the series. All enjoyable. Lead characters are fun and of course, Fred is a typical dog. Love the way Jake reacts with him.
I really have enjoyed this series and this one was no exception. Love the characters and the action! Definitely a fun read!
The book was entertaining. The villain wasn’t predictable like other books I’ve read.
Great book for Dog loving detectives.
Always enjoy reading about Mr Houston’s characters, the descriptions of scenes that depict old sheds, farms and areas of curiosity!!Loving animals my favorite character is Fred
Really enjoy this series. Lightheartedness amongst mystery.
A Relic to Die For by Richard Houston is a funny, page-turner of a mystery filled with somewhat bizarre characters who are involved with grave-robbing, confiscating, stealing and/or selling authentic Civil War memorabilia, and you have no idea who’s doing what! Totally loved Jake, Bonnie, and Fred, the golden retriever, plus the addition of the adorably scrawny kitten to the plot.
This was my first time reading Richard Houston, but love the author’s straight-forward presentation that’s nowhere close to presenting Jake as a professional private investigator, though Jake does have a sharp mind, and his humor will have you laughing out loud. Definitely recommend reading this one!
This is one of my favorite authors — Stories are witty and unpredictable and fun to read.
Why is a family relic, one that was placed in the ground at the turn of the century, listed on eBay? Who dug a grave in this old family graveyard and whose body is in the open grave. Where are the relics coming from and why are people being killed? And who would kill them?
easy quick story.
Kept me on the edge!
Too predictable , just like all the others in the series.
a nice read.
These are such good books…very entertaining…keeps you turning the page. Love them.
A mystery starring a nice guy and his dog. Can’t lose.
