A Navy SEAL, a cop, and unexplained murders in the snow. Can Viktor, the most cynical of heroes find love and a reason to stay with Aiden? When SEAL, Viktor Zavodny, left small-town America for the Navy he made sure he never had a reason to return for anything other than visiting family. He wanted to see the world and fight for his country and nothing, or no one, was getting in his way. He fights … his way. He fights hard, and plays harder, and a succession of men and women share his bed.
But a phone call from his sister has him rushing home instead of enjoying his usual thirty down days of random sex and sleep.
What he finds is a mystery on the Green Mountains and the only man attempting to make sense of seemingly unrelated deaths. His childhood friend and first love… Lieutenant Aiden Coleman, Sheriff.
There were reasons Viktor left his home. Not least Aiden Coleman with his innocence and his dreams of forever. Now Aiden and Viktor need to work together to save lives and prove there is a hero in all of us.
When it’s done, if they make it out alive, can Aiden persuade Viktor that he has a reason to stay? Maybe forever?

This is intense, dramatic and thrilling, with a side off romance. Viktor is tough, determined, cold and impatient. Aidan is gentle, caring and stubborn. They met in high school, Aidan fell in love, Viktor didn’t, he was too focused on joining the military. Years later Viktor is home recovering from an injury and runs into Aidan. They soon start fooling around, but even after Aidan confesses his love, again, Viktor runs back to his SEALs. Things come to a head between them, 2 years after their affair, when they march up a mountainous together to find out what Viktor’s nephew saw before he was found injured and unconscious. I was somewhat disappointed in Viktor on that mountain, but he redeemed himself. I enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the other books in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
A page turner very real characters with interesting storylines.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved getting some more of Vik and see why he’s the way he is. I loved the connection between Vik and Aidan. Yes, their reconnection after 2 years was very tumultuous, as when Aidan declared his love to Vik he threw it back in his face and by saying he doesn’t love Aidan and that he’s leaving to go back to Oceania and to his Seal team but really he does love Aidan, he just not ready to even admit it to himself and since coming home isn’t guaranteed with his job and didn’t want that for Aidan. Vik’s nephew Ben was found on the mountain knocked out with a broken ankle so Vik wants to find out why and to stop his family being in danger but Aidan who is working at the sheriff station doesn’t want Vik anywhere near the investigation but Aidan’s boss believes that Vik can use his skills to see if they can find any clues about what’s happening on the mountain. During the course of the investigation they work well together once they decide to put what happened behind them and focus on the investigation and while working together they slowly rekindle their relationship. Yes, it went from hate to love very quickly but I suppose it’s a fine line between love and hate and because this is a second chance romance I don’t really care that it’s rushed, plus them having to rely on each other on the mountain helps build their lost of trust back. I’m looking forward to reading Sam’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone
One of the best MM romance novels I’ve read. Highly recommend it.
Exciting, edge of your seat action, and a lot of sexual tension and frustration that made the main characters’ time together super-hot. Loved the characters, too, both heroes in their own ways. This book really worked, both as an action thriller, and as a romance.
I loved this book. I was hooked from the very beginning and could not put it down. Loved the characters. An amazing MC story.

The good plot and the well detailed characters kept me turning the pages until the very end! I look forward to reading more from this author!
Viktor and Aiden were friends that grew up together. When Aiden tells Viktor he loves him, Viktor runs. When Viktor leaves to join the Navy he is determined to never come back. Aiden is working a case that Viktor’s nephew is hurt and Viktor comes home to help. Can Aiden and Viktor work together to close this case? Will old feeling resurface?

I liked the mystery, suspense, angst, and tension in this story. I loved Aiden, and I respected Viktor’s dedication to his country and especially his fellow Seals. However, his non-military interpersonal skills sucked. Even his family pretty much got shorted until something dire happened. So, I am somewhat ambivalent about him. He was surely wounded both physically and mentally, and it felt like he spent a lot of his life hiding from emotions. That isn’t too surprising for someone who kills as part of his job and risks his life on a frequent basis. I’m not sure he deserved Aiden, but he certainly needed someone like Aiden to love him and show him what really matters in life. Great writing with great twists and turns in the story. Great descriptions, too. I really felt like I was there trekking through the cold and snow. Brrrrrr.

Viktor returns home for his sister and nephew and fall all over again for his best friend. There is mystery and intrigue all threw this fast paced story with hots of true love thrown into the mix. Lots of ups and downs but all in all this was another homerun for RJ. I received a free copy of this book via booksprout am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved the cover art to start with. It was very pretty. I liked the characters and the way they seemed to gel together. I liked the dialogue. I liked the fact that two characters got a second chance at love.

(Review with spoilers)
First book in a new series and first book I read by the author. I loved the romance and the mystery. I recommend it.
After a mysterious murder, Viktor and Aiden, who have a common past, meet again. Neither wants to get close to the other. But each step they take in the investigation brings them closer together. Will they separate again, or will they have a happy ending this time?
I love Aiden. He is sincere, affectionate, always thinks first of others. Viktor broke his heart twice, and he won’t let him do it again. He’s tired of going after him. But he can’t walk away when he sees him. He loves him, he needs him by his side. He cannot resist him.
Viktor feels bad about hurting Aiden. He wasn’t ready for anything else, first because he wanted to join the army, and then Aiden frightened him by telling him that he loved him. He doesn’t deserve to be with anyone, he doesn’t want to hurt him. He is broken, physically and mentally. He doesn’t think he can make anyone happy. He tries to resist Aiden, but he can’t do it. Aiden sees Viktor, the real Viktor, and he isn’t scared by him. Aiden knows him and wants to be with him. And Viktor can’t drive him away, not anymore. Now he knows what he wants. He wants what he never allowed himself to want. He wants a happy ending.
I love them together. They’ve known each other for years, but they don’t really know what the other is like, and I love how they discover each other.
I love the secondary characters, Monika and their parents, Sam, Luca, Ian.
I love the mystery surrounding the murder. I found it interesting.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
Aiden has loved Viktor since they were high school. All Viktor loved was the Navy and his Seal Team. He didn’t do relationships. When he was on leave two years ago because of an injury he has a fling with Aiden who is a cop and breaks his heart. When Viktor’s nephew is found unconscious on a mountain trail, Viktor come home to find out what happened. Can Aiden and Viktor find out what happened? Can Viktor let go and show his feelings for Aiden? What a great read, it pulls you in.
This story has many layers that captivated my attention and kept me turning the pages. The characters are what drew me into the story. I was eager to see how Viktor and Aiden would find their way to each other. I thought the author did a great job of showing Viktor’s internal conflict over his desires versus what he has been taught and lead to believe as a SEAL. There are many layers to this story that kept me on the edge of my seat. With a mystery, suspense, and so much more, there is something for everyone in this book. I don’t want to say too much for fear of giving something away. I will say, I enjoyed following along as Aiden and Viktor worked to solve a mystery and finding their way to each other.
Viktor wanted to be a SEAL – but the Navy would not have let him do it with a boyfriend back then – and Aiden was a hot, sweet 16 year old – no way was Viktor going to take that risk.
Home on a medical leave, they are all grown up years later when they re-connect – and the potential is a lot more real and serious.
Can Viktor handle a connection that romantic and intense? Can Aiden get over his past wounds?
When Ben, nephew to Viktor, ends up badly injured on a snowy mountain, other nasty things seem to lurk on that mountain.
Trusting each other and their skills is the only way to reach an end where they both survive and town and family are safe.
Steamy action / adventure .

This was a great start to the Heroes series. Viktor and Aiden were complex characters and it was enjoyable watching them make their way back to each other as they worked together to solve the mystery. All in all a great second chance romance and a very enjoyable read.

We start off with a glimpse of Aiden’s and Victor’s on again- off again relationship. It is mostly off again due to Victor. He is just not ready to commit. And he is a bit of a jerk.
The main story picks up when Victor returns to his home town to help find his missing nephew. The style of the story morphs into suspense here and it is pretty darn good. We get to watch Victor do what he does best- track and blow things up. He is no doubt an action oriented guy so it makes sense that he does his best thinking while working on the case. It also helps that he must work side by side with Aiden.
There is a whole lot of suspense going on and it was pretty cool. The smexy scenes are hot and there are some characters from a different universe who make guest appearances. Edge of your seat action with a HEA at the end. You cannot go wrong!

4.5 stars! It took me a good long time to like Viktor. He comes across as a complete asshole. He only seems to care about himself, putting in the most minimal amount of effort into anyone else. His ego and sense of self importance made me wonder what in the world Aiden saw in him. Aiden sees beyond Viktor’s masks and falls in love. There is a ton of action and suspense. I enjoyed seeing Viktor finally opening himself up to loving Aiden, his family and himself. Terrific ending.
Have you ever read a book by a favorite author where you enjoyed the story itself, but you could either leave or take the MCs? Well, I hate to admit it, but this story falls into that category.

Didn’t care for one of the leads- Viktor, but liked the other- Aiden. The suspense was good and kept me reading.
