WARNING: Author believes in soul mates and insta-love, proceed with caution if you’re not a romantic at heart.
Love’s greatest cure is salvation of one’s soul.
Shane Sherman has a problem. Well, two, actually. One has auburn hair and pale-green eyes, and the other? . . . Is a secret. One he doesn’t want to talk about. But all that changes when Sage comes to town.
Sage Sloan is being stalked. … town.
Sage Sloan is being stalked. So she runs to Trails End and the bravest man her sister said she’d ever met. Sergeant Shane Sherman.
Sparks fly, tempers flare, and bears misbehave as Shane and Sage find a way to coexist in Trails End. That is, until a killer comes to call. Then all bets are off. Shane isn’t about to lose his saving grace.
This is the third and final book in the Reason Series. I highly recommend you read books one and two before “A Reason To Live.”
Rated R for sexual content, language, and M for Maxine.

Wow, this book just broke my heart during the Prologue and during the book too. My heart ached for these two. It had me crying like the baby I am, all the emotions and all the feels. We met Shane in the previous book, he’s Max aka Thunder God’s bestie. Shane and Sage meet under difficult circumstances. Then when she has a stalker, she comes to him and his town for help. And guess who she stays with (laugh out loud)….yup, Maxine, Max’s mom. Maxine is definitely one of my all time favorite characters, I mean, hellllloooo, she’s the Thunder God’s ornery af mom, complete with all her shenanigans. And yes, that word is used in the book, thank you CP Smith for that…loved it.
This book was full of twist, turns and a lot of suspense. They end up back in the town from the first book with Max’s cousin, Sheriff Jack and his wife Jenn. So we get to catch up with all of our favorites from this series. This book was funny af, with the women’s shenanigans, note to self….the guys are always one step ahead. Seriously, I laughed my ass off at some of the crap they did. Such handfuls. This was a safe read, no om or ow shenanigans. Shane did keep trying to push her away, but with some meddling, he finally gave in to what they both wanted. Great storyline, complete with an epilogue and hea. I loved seeing these two get a much deserved hea, not sure two people deserved it more. Made my heart happy. #BookCrackSeries
I wanted to like this one. But for me, there just comes a point where a man should have to grovel or fight for what he wants, especially when they push the woman they supposedly love away constantly.
I get that Shane had to fight through the guilt he felt about losing someone during war-time that he felt responsible for. However, he spent so much time fighting Sage and his feelings that it just made it unbelievable when he all of sudden turned “cave-man” and wanted Sage.
With Sage, after everything she went through growing up, it takes a strong woman to put herself in the position to allow a man to have any kind of control over her again. Now that being said, I just can’t get over these women who put themselves in situations when they know they are in danger. I mean seriously! She knows she has a stalker, and although every precaution was taken to ensure he might not know where she went off to, she still purposely put herself in a dangerous situation and lied to Shane about what she was doing.
All in all, this series was just okay…but honestly it’s nothing I would re-read or rave about.
Manly men and the women who can tame them. CP Smith never fails to deliver anything less then the best books I’ve ever read. Be prepared to fall in love with all of her characters.
CP Smith has done it again! She’s written a heroine I can’t help but bond with and a hero I can’t help but swoon over!!
I enjoyed how in this one there’s a bit of a different feel to it – Sage pursues Shane more at the beginning while he works through his thing, but once his eyes are opened to what’s in front of him, OH MY, watch out!! There’s also a little bit more of a serious under-tone to this story as compared to the others in the series (which totally works for this couple), but it’s balanced out nicely with the appearances of Maxine (GOD, I love that woman! I so want to be her when I grow up!), Max, Mia, and (squee!!) Jack and Jenn. But this story nicely finishes out the series and leaves a satisfied feeling in my heart.
There’s a couple of sweet twists I wasn’t expecting that made my heart burst with happiness. There was also a few scary-wasn’t-quite-expecting-that moments too. Shane and Sage delivered on all the feels: I giggled, cried, swooned, freaked, shivered, lost my breath, got it back, and lost it again.
CP has a habit of providing some nuggets of truth in her stories and she didn’t fail to include them in here – what’s important in life, how you see yourself, among a few others. It’s those deeper things that help made a d*** good story all the better!
This is definitely not a book to be missed!! It was a wonderful escape and a journey I’ll willingly take over and over again. Beautiful way to tie everyone and everything together!!
I absolutely loved this book. Shane is such a beautifully broken man who doesn’t feel worthy of any kind of happiness, let alone love. The former sergeant firmly believes he is the reason a young woman soldier is dead and punishes himself for her death. After returning home to Trails End, he jumps in to help everyone with whatever project they are working on. However, when the soldier’s sister comes into town, running from her own secrets, all bets are off. Sage and Shane are a dynamic couple and though they fight for and against their attraction, the passion between them is off the charts. Despite her abusive upbringing, Sage is a strong woman and can stand toe-to-toe with the stubborn alpha.
I read for lots of different reason and escaping into a good suspense story is my favorite. There are the usual meddling townsfolk and humor. There is intrigue, suspense, love, friendship and passion. I love the interplay among the characters and the humorous exchanges and situations. And Maxine, I still want to be her when I grow up, lol. Ms. Smith does an excellent job of throwing the reader off the scent of the bad guy and when the stuff hits the fan, there is no doubt that the alphas of the series are going to take him out.
The plot is fast paced, the story fun and exciting, and the sex ohhhh so hot. I for one am sad to know there will be no more trips to Trails End but I’m sure that Ms. Smith has more great stories up her sleeves.
