After a night of debauchery, Lord Barclay wakes up to find a woman in his bed. That’s not unusual, but this one is fully clothed. When she tells him they are married, he is instantly cold sober and looking for a way out. Miss Sarah Vincent, an orphan raised in an American convent, didn’t ask for this marriage. She’ll be damned if it’s in name only. But seducing a man? How ever will she do that?! … she do that?! Good thing her friend lent her a copy of The Kama Sutra….
Brice starts to wonder what has come over his young wife. She’s suddenly taking charge of him, and their house, and no longer the timid woman he assumed her to be.
Despite his aversion to this marriage he’s starting to want his wife…in every way possible.

Brice, Lord Barclay, isn’t really surprised to wake up to a woman in his bed, but he’s truly shocked to learn that she is, in fact, his wife. Sarah Vincent is an orphan raised in an American convent and has virtually no knowledge of English high society or men. But since she and Brice have been tricked into a marriage with no way to annul it without leaving her thoroughly ruined, she’s determined to make it a real one. Now she just has to learn how to seduce her new husband. After witnessing the cool hostility that existed between his parents, Brice wanted no part of marriage, but with his new wife gaining confidence every day he’s becoming more and more attracted to her Too bad they made an agreement to stay out of each other’s way and have a marriage in name only.
I really did enjoy the first half of this book and the premise of them both being tricked into marriage was intriguing. But the lack of communication really began to wear on my nerves about halfway through. Brice was jealous and hypocritical, expecting accountings of Sarah’s time while expecting to give none for his own. For her part, Sarah’s naivete, while understandable given her time in a convent, got rather trying and I expected more from her given her rapidly developing confidence. I hated that she allowed herself to be cowed by Brice. I began to lose my patience with these two and found some of the narrative to be a bit repetitive, with reiterations of scenes that had occurred in previous chapters as if they had occurred in a previous book and not just a few pages back.
I would’ve liked to see a bit more dialogue between Brice and Sarah when they did both come to their senses, but nonetheless, this was a good read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lord Barclay and Sarah’s story was just delicious. Strong female lead for this time period coupled with a reformed rogue made this one just fantastic. We got deception, confused feelings, great side characters, a possible challenge for her emotions and a dash of action! Throw in some deliciously innocent slow burn romance and I was a very happy reader. Historical romance is a new genre for me and I have to say I’m a BIG fan!
I really liked this story about Lord Barclay and Miss Sarah Vincent.
Sarah is an orphan who grew up in a convent in New Orleans in America and Lord Barclay is a rake who spends his time in gaming hells and brothels. So two very different people with very different upbringings and views on life.
These two people are tricked into marriage by her cousin and his wife and are now forced to live together in a marriage that non of them want. Lord Barclay never wanted to get married after seeing his own parents being miserable in their forced marriage, but he is a good man and would never leave Lady Sarah with nothing and humiliated. So they keep being married but make the arrangement to never consummate it and live their life in freedom to do whatever they want. But the further they get into the marriage and their everyday life the harder it gets to keep their feelings neutral and the drama and gossip of the “ton” doesn’t make it any easier on them.
Will this marriage ever work with such two different people and can the “Karma Sutra” help Sarah in the pursuit of seducing her husband?
I really loved Lord Barclay and Lady Sarah. Lord Barclay is such a sweet man who will do anything to help the people in need and try to make their conditions better. He will also do anything for Lady Sarah even though he doesn’t understand why. He is broody, protective, strong, strong willed and very loving.
Lady Sarah has many of the same trades but she is also very clumsy and funny and does exactly what she wants without thinking of the consequences of her actions. She hates the cordial side of the English “ton” and she is very humble in all of her actions.
I can definitely recommend this book if you like an opposites attract lovestory with a great villain a good plot and a lot of very sweet and caring characters.
I got this book from Entangled Publishing and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It’s an interesting and well written historical romance novel and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The beginning is the most interesting part and it just draws the readers in and keeps them intrigued. I also loved the characters and I think that the ending was no less amazing. The pacing of the story is perfect and it has all the right ingredients; romance, humor, characters that grow with the story, and strong writing. I’d definitely recommend it to historical fiction fans.
Sarah is an American raised in a convent. She isn’t ready for a life in London but circumstances have forced her to do so. Unfortunately, she now finds herself married to a man who doesn’t desire her and doesn’t like the idea of marriage at all. She herself isn’t sure about what she wants but one thing is clear, she has no choice in the matter so she must make her marriage work. It may not be as bad as she fears after all.
Brice has never imagined himself to be married. Yet, he finds himself married to a woman he knows nothing about. There is no way he will cause the said woman any harm so he decides to stay married but on his terms. What he didn’t expect were the complications that arise from their arrangement. Now, he is feeling things he wasn’t supposed to feel. Does their marriage stand a chance or are they doomed to get hurt anyway?
A Rake’s Rebellion by Cynthia Breeding is book Three in the Rake Trilogy. This is the story of Brice Barclay and Sarah Vincent. I have read the other books and I do feel that helped me to enjoy this one but you could make this a standalone book for sure. Brice and Sarah end up being tricked into marriage. Brice never wanted to marry and did all the things a Rake does that doesn’t plan on marrying. Sarah is a orphan who was raised by nuns so she is shy and innocent, so very different from Brice. They both are of course upset but the do agree they have to keep up appearances. So they seem to settle on a marriage in name only. But Sarah starts to come into her own and when she starts to study the Karma Sutra book becomes more adventures. Brice and others start to notice the change in her and he starts to claim her as his own.
Loved their story.
“I would rather you not touch me, your lordship.” Not touch her? Hell. What have I done? How foxed had he gotten last night?
“Why are you in my bed, Miss Vincent?” A blush stole over her cheeks and she lowered her gaze.”We were married last night.” “Very funny, Miss Vincent. Clever, even.” Thinking she was playing a job on him that she and their friend Caroline had dreamed up. Of all people Miss Vincent was an orphan, newly arrived from America.
Thus the journey began. They were indeed married, Brice, Lord Barclay and Sarah. With no way out he promptly determined they would have a marriage in name only and see how they go on.
One shy young lady who wants to have a real marraige and a lot of ups and downs and a transformation bring this story along quickly having me turning the pages delightedly! Loved it!

After a night of heavy drinking, Lord Brice Barclay wakes up to find a woman in his bed. That’s not unusual, but this one is fully clothed. When she tells him they are married, he is instantly cold sober and looking for a way out. Miss Sarah Vincent, an orphan raised in an American convent, didn’t ask for this marriage. They agree to have a marriage in name only, until they decide it’s not what they want but how to persuade each other when every time they meet they put their feet in their mouths!
This is the third book in the series & it could be read on its own. However it does follow on immediately from the previous book. I think this is my favourite of the series. I loved Brice who was like a dog with a toy, he wasn’t interested in it until someone else was, then it was his & his alone. I also loved Sarah who went form being the ugly duckling almost scared to speak to the swan who captivated everyone. The road to their HEA was littered with misunderstandings & misconceptions but it was highly entertaining. It was also lovely to see Stephan & Caroline settling into wedded bliss. I would have liked to have known what happened to the villain & some of the residents of St Martins, it would have tied up some minor loose ends.

My review:
When a prim and proper Miss finds herself married to a renowned rake who wants to have nothing to do with her, do they have a future together …
Even if it is the third in a series, this book can be read without problem as a standalone as being my first read by Mrs Cynthia Breeding, at no point I felt lost.
And what a read it was, I just loved this book and the main couple, they have their flaws and at time it might have upset me, but it made them even more real.
Sarah is a young miss right out of a couvent, so she is in no way at her place among the ton, and as an American, she is like a fish out of its pond.
But she is willing to try, she makes mistakes and concatenates mishaps.
Plus, she wants to find a purpose, her upbringing did not prepare her to the idle way of life of peers.
Every new step she does, she gambles to be shunned or praised for her actions.
Her new life is not an easy one when she had learn to fend for herself and wait for nobody’s help. Now she must navigate in very choppy waters between servants and nobility when everyone will revel in her misfortune.
Brice thought even now married, he could continue his life as previously.
And he intended too until his new wife shows she was more than the drab mouse he caught a glimpse of. So when other men begin to look at his not so dreary wife, he drops the binders.
But they made a deal.
Even if I was sometimes angry, their troubles at communicate looked so right, like when you want to say something but lost the thread of the discussion or you formulate wrongly what you wanted to say. All the errors we do under the fire of our senses.
It was lovely story of a young woman whom open herself slowly to a new world of sensation and a man who realizes his happiness is up to him if he fan find the strength to engage his heart too.
It was a slow building story, giving the characters time to settle and seek what they truly are looking for.
5 stars for a consuming tale of finding its voice and going for it.
I was granted an advance copy by the author through Netgalley and I purchased own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

This a new to me author and the book was okay. Brice wakes up to fond himself newly married to Sarah. Sarah is right out of the convent and finds she has to navigate a different way of life. It had its moments but it wasn’t for me. I skimmed through most of it. a good read, with potential. It happens to be 3rd in the series. 3 stars…

Another rogue falls. Brice is mourning the fact that his two best friends have gotten married when he also ends in the same position. This is something he never wanted. Sarah is out of her depth in London society. She is an orphan who grew up in a convent. The people who were supposed to protect her has tricked her into marriage. These two forge ahead trying to make peace with their situation and try to make a way forward. The author tells a tale of discovery and redemption. Love blossoms and flowers as they realize that they are better together than apart.
